"This review is for the food only. However, being an establishment that's offers Halal dining, I have also mentioned a few other things that people will find helpful. Food is average at best. All chicken dishes taste the same. In starters, the fish pakoras were hard and didn't taste right. The seekh kebabs were good though. And so we're the chicken tikka botis. Lamb chops were acceptable. Quite a few deserts on the menu were unavailable. Naan and roti were fresh. Chicken in chicken palak was under cooked. Credit to the staff who took it back and took it off the bill. We visited the establishment on our way back from a long journey and had another 120 mins of travel left. We were running out of time for Asar prayer so had to visit the place. A few things to note... No place to make wudhu as the toilets were not really clean. We made wudhu in the car park after using the toilets. No place to offer salah inside. Not even an office. There was music being played and the place serves alcohol. The staff did turn off the music at our request and seated us in a corner where we could offer salah next to the table on our own mussalah. They did not mind that at all. So full credit to them for this. However, it's worth noting that the place was almost empty with only a few other covers. We stayed about 2.5 hrs. Prayed Magrib and Isha there. Had it not been for the rain and the need to make wudhu/toilets on a country road, we would not have eaten there for reasons other than food."

"Spuds and Berries used to be one of our favourite spots for breakfast/lunch, seems the last couple of times it’s been a little disappointing, food still ok but just as good as other places serving similar menus. The first time we went, my partner asked if he could have scrambled egg instead of the fried egg, to which he was told no because it costs too much to make scrambled egg, he requested no egg but maybe an extra slice of bacon, his breakfast arrived absolutely piled with extra bacon, yet couldn’t have the scrambled egg because it was too costly? Today we went for breakfast, instead of asking for the scrambled egg, we asked if the egg in general could be replaced with a hash brown which was the exact same price as the egg on the ‘extras’ list, we was told no we wasn’t allowed to do that, it used to be allowed but became confusing for the chef when there was big tables… There was no big tables, in fact only 5 people in the whole place, 2 of them was us. As I work in a restaurant myself, I do understand there needs to be a line drawn somewhere but wow, talk about keeping the customers happy… definitely didn’t seem bothered about that at all, and this is no insult to the front of house, they’re only doing as they’re told. It’s sad to see you have got rid of the tea leaves and strainers with the pot of tea, that was always a nice touch, now just replaced by your bog standard tea bag. The breakfast it’s self was ok… not a great deal of seasoning on the full Yorkshire and the Hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Royale was cold but other than that, it was edible. These may be really petty issues but they’re stuff that would personally make our eating out a much nicer experience, especially when things don’t come cheap. Safe to say, we won’t be returning now, I just hope one day it can back to a place it once was."

"We dined in the restaurant as part of a package at the hotel that my friend had booked for my birthday. We arrived for our evening meal at 7.45pm. The restaurant is very pretty and there were a few tables in. It was a nice atmosphere. We were given the menus and chose a reasonably priced bottle of Pinot Grigio blush rose. I chose the soup to start, roast pepper and butternut squash and my friend the prawns. The soup was quite bland. There was no salt and pepper on the table. I only really ordered it as there was nothing else I fancied and we were having 3 courses. The prawns were good. For main we both ordered the chicken breast with fries and peppercorn sauce. This was really disappointing. I could hardly cut the chicken with my knife and could have done with a steak one. The fries were served in a metal bucket, looked good but soggy at the bottom. The chicken reminded me of something you would cook when you are learning to cook and just plonk a chicken breast on a tray and put it in the oven! It wasn’t seasoned or in any marinade. It wasn’t soft or moist. I believe if you picked this on the a la carte menu it was around £23 which is just ridiculous for what it was. I ate it but only because I was starving! The sticky toffee was lovely and my friend enjoyed her lemon tart. By half 8 in the restaurant there was no one else in, so the early nice atmosphere just vanished. We finished our wine whilst they laid the tables for breakfast around us. My friend said she would put the wine on the room as that was all we had to pay. The bill was £43? The young gentleman explained that we were on a two course dinner rate so had to pay for the puddings. My friend could well have had this stated in her booking email but when you are faced with a three course menu and no one says anything how would you know? The soup I never would have had and the sticky toffee although delightful was not worth paying £9 for. I felt bad that my friend was picking this up as it was totally unnecessary. At breakfast we were served by the same young girl who overcharged us for the Prosecco the day before. She asked if we wanted tea or coffee but didn’t say, have you been before, it’s a buffet, please help yourself to juice, cereal etc. The hot self serve wasn’t great. The bacon looked like it had walked in from the field as did the sausages. The hash browns were flat cold and the eggs looked like they had been there from the day before. The restaurant looks stunning and with a few tweaks I think it could be fabulous but I wouldn’t be rushing back after this visit."
