"The experience at this restaurant was not great, but also not terrible. It was not memorable in a positive way and left me feeling like I won't be spending my money there again. The refurbishment was nice, but the overall quality of the place has declined significantly. We had to wait a long time at the bar to be acknowledged by the staff, even though it was not busy. The service was slow and we had to wait to be seated and offered drinks. The food was overpriced and not up to par. The fish mains were bland, the pheasant was tough, and even the gnocchi was just alright. The shared camembert starter was expensive and the cheese was overcooked. There was no break between courses, and the next dish was rushed out. We had to ask multiple times for our wine, which arrived halfway through the main course. The young waitress was polite, but there are clearly some areas that need improvement in order to bring the restaurant back to its former glory."

We took a friend here, and it was her first visit. She was amazed that she hadn't known of its existence. We were delighted with the service and the food. Also, it is dog-friendly in certain areas. I recommend that you give it a go.

Good surroundings and attentive staff; food OK but not spectacular. Good cask beers. Overall felt we were on rather a conveyor belt where the intent was to get punters in/out as quickly as possible to make space for the next booking.

The food at this restaurant is excellent, and the staff is very polite and accommodating. I will definitely return in the future. The setting and decor are lovely both inside and out. I highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again. Voir le carte

Lovley surroundings, lovely staff , the starters were really nice, prawn cocktail and smoked chicken salad. The mussels and fries very good. The steak pie was terrible.First rule at catering college don't put pastry in a microwave!! The pastry was a sloppy mess.

I may be a bit late to the party but the refurb is fantastic. I realise it’s the silly season of Xmas with lots of work parties so it’s busy but at those prices the food was average. Both the pheasant main and the pudding treacle tart can be described as ‘tough’ as if they’d been hanging around a while ready to get warmed up in the microwave for speed as it was so busy, disappointing.

My most recent visit to the Queens Head was extremely disappointing. The food quality was poor and the manager's attitude was unacceptable. Two of the meals we ordered were unappetizing in taste and texture. On top of that, the Mussels were spoiled! When we complained about the food, the manager responded rudely, questioning if our dissatisfaction was simply due to personal preference rather than a legitimate issue that required a replacement dish or alternative order. We ate at the Queen’s Head on New Year’s Eve and had a lovely evening. We had intended to leave after our meal and see the new year at home, but we stayed until 12.30 am because we were having such a pleasant time. The food was very good and the entertainment, a singer called Danielle Mae, was excellent, and many people enjoyed dancing as she sang. It was very busy but despite this, the members of staff worked well as a team, efficient and friendly throughout the evening.

We have visited here many times before. Booked to try their Sunday roast Menu for the first time. We weren’t disappointed! It was delicious! I ordered the slow braised Lamb Henry and my Husband had the Sirloin of beef , my lamb was so tender , it came with mash, roasties, veg and sticky red cabbage (my fav) we also ordered a side of cauliflower cheese which was so tasty! Portions were so generous and the gravy was lovely and thick. Service was also great. Would definitely recommend, never had a bad meal here. For dessert we had : Baileys Chocolate parfait , which was like a party in my mouth and my husband had ice cream! Can’t wait to go back. I’m no photographer and I don’t think my pics do...

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
