The Orangery At The Danesfield House

Fine sandwiches, warm scones, delicious cakes and a wonderful choice of teas a lovely way to spend an afternoon relaxing with my daughter before heading over to the Spa for manicures it was a treat as quite pricey but we will return. Friendly, helpful and polite staff.

I reserved a table at this hotel for afternoon tea with my daughter and sister, and we had an excellent time. We received plenty of attention, with endless tea and sandwiches provided. The service was good and the price was reasonable compared to other hotels that offer afternoon tea. We even got to take home some of the cakes for our partners since we couldn't finish them all!

We dined here following a lovely Spa morning. The package included 2 courses each. We both had fish and chips which was delicious! So nice to have homemade chips. Most places just use ready bought. I had the tarte tatin which was delicious and my friend had the rice pudding which was too rich for her. Service was good and we enjoyed some Prosescco overlooking the lovely gardens. Would recommend!

We had a delicious 3-course meal at this restaurant. For starters, we enjoyed Chicken and Shiitake Mushroom terrine with Parma Ham and veloute cauliflower. Our main courses of Pork Belly, Cavolo Nero, and Apple Crumble with Apple Sauce were excellent. The French wine we chose was full-bodied and tasty. We ended the meal with a cheese board and passion fruit cheesecake, both of which were very good.

I visited for afternoon tea with my Mum,Grandma, sisters and 6 month old nephew.My sister wasn't made to feel uncomfortable when my nephew became grumpy and started crying a bit and the staff even showed her somewhere quieter where she could stand to soothe him.The afternoon tea was quite expensive compared to others I have been to and there was no clear offer of refillable teas or coffees though I'm sure if you asked for these they would be provided. I had the rosebud tea which was something I had never tasted before and which was very nice. We have had Sunday lunch twice this year at Danesfield House and I am still not decided how I feel about it! The hotel has splendid grounds with views across the River Thames. The lunch service on both occasions was excellent and the Orangery itself on a sunny day is quite special. Set against this the price is quite high £30 for two courses; £35 for three) and the cheapest bottle of wine is £25 with a 12.5 per cent service charge billed as standard. So it's around £50 a head. Would just about be acceptable if the food was extraordinary, but it's not. The starters are quite ordinary; soup, a crab cocktail which was very 1970s and a few others. The beef roast was ok. Nothing to complain about...

I had lunch at this restaurant during the week and then at the nearby Cliveden Hotel the following day (they are only half an hour apart). The set lunch prices were very similar at both places (here it is £30 for 2 courses and £35 for 3 courses, while at Cliveden it is £33 for 3 courses), but the quality of ingredients and taste was much better at Cliveden. At this restaurant, we had chorizo sausages and mash but found the chorizo sausages to be too strong to eat on their own. Started with a glass of prosecco, a very good quality one, while we considered the menu and gazed over the beautiful gardens. I started with Asparagus served with poached egg and hollandaise sauce. It was so delicious I didn't want to get to the end of it. The asparagus was perfectly steamed,the poached egg oozed onto my plate and the sauce was a dream. My companion chose pate de foie gras, served with a brioche, and pronounced it excellent. For my main I chose duck with beans, red cabbage and fondant potato. Afternoon tea for us is a regular occurrence both at home and when travelling. I had not been to Danesfield house for many years and not wishing to travel into London and being completely put off Cliveden by their GBP 7 per head supplement for just using the driveway, Danesfield seemed like a good option. The full afternoon tea was an obvious choice and there is a nice variety of teas to choose, we went with Oolong. When we arrived and met together in the hall there were two young mums with their broods of noisy children, we hoped they would stay there but unfortunately no, they soon followed us into the Orangery.
