"This charming small hotel is located just a short distance from our home, but feels like a peaceful retreat in the beautiful Essex countryside. We have visited several times for special meals, but recently stayed overnight in one of their rooms for the first time. Our stay was comfortable and enjoyable, although a bit pricey. The room was cozy and impeccably clean, and the evening meal was delicious. However, there were a few minor issues that could easily be addressed. Our room, No.9, was well-equipped with a fan, iron, and ironing board, but lacked a hair dryer, bath/shower mat, and electric razor socket. Additionally, there were only 2 bath towels provided, with no matching hand towels. The dining experience also had some shortcomings. The music in the evening was too loud, making it difficult to converse, and the breakfast staff on Sunday morning did not inform us about the availability of cereals and fruit juice. This led us to believe they were not included in the breakfast, so we missed out. The staff also seemed stingy with the tea and coffee, only providing a small cup and failing to offer refills. While these issues are minor, they can greatly impact the overall guest experience. Addressing these small details could make a significant difference in the hotel's rating and reputation."

This hotel has to be the top of my list for service and helpfulness.. The staff are so conscious of your needs, nothing is too much trouble. I cannot rate this place highly enough.

We just wanted a drink at lunchtime and staff were very friendly and helpful. Sorted out a table outside as it was so warm. Tables set out beautifully but no-one there. the menu looked appetising and reasonable. Plan to eat there next time we are in Rainham.

The dining area appeared as though it had not been cleaned in quite some time, with drink marks still visible from the previous guests. The breakfast the next morning was terrible, as the beans were spoiled and the chef admitted to opening them a week prior. As a result, we decided not to eat our breakfast. Voir le carte

I have been frequenting this restaurant for a few years now. While the food has always been good, I believe the current menu is in need of an update. The menu used to be regularly changing, but unfortunately, it has remained the same for quite some time now. It has become very basic and lacks the variety it once had. I would like to see some changes and better options before considering returning.

We used the De Rougemont Manor way back in the day for our honeymoon suite, (1977 to be precise). Came here a few years back, terrible service at the restaurant . Stopped coming here. But heard they were under new management and menu decided to try again. Arrived at 12.45 lady on desk said go and wait in the bar and someone will be out to see you soon. After 15 minutes waiting, we got up and walked out Came in at 12.45 today was ushered into bar area and was told someone will take us to restaurant, after 15 minute wait, we got up and walked out

We visited with friends for dinner and was not disappointed, welcome and service very good. We had a groupon voucher which was for 2 courses, tho we did have 3 courses. Menu choice very good, we had starters of soup, prawn cocktail and halloumi between us, mains was chicken supreme and 3 of us had sea bass all these served with fresh veg. Desserts were panna cotta and bread and butter pudding. All the dishes were well presented and cooked perfectly. The restaurant was quite busy too. Would definitely return here and highly recommend this restaurant. Decor very nice too, very clean. Voir le carte

Myself and my partner had a voucher that was gifted to us. We both chose the fish and chips which was nice and then both had a dessert. I was very pleased with my blackcurrant cheesecake but my partner was not so impressed with the watery custard and the bread pudding that came with it. The service was good and the waitress was attentive and chatty to us. There was a mix up with the voucher and the system hadn't taken some money off but the waitress was very helpful and got this sorted for us. I liked the decoration of the restaurant and thought it was modern. It was a shame that the chip and pin machine was not able to let me leave a tip as I would have liked to leave one for the lovely wai...

Returned as a group of 6, after a few months, to celebrate our friend 's birthday. There was no menu available on the restaurant sits, and the only one I was able to find was on trip advisor, dated 2017. I assumed (wrongly) the current menu would be similar...how wrong could I be! Basically 'pub grub ', which we could have got equally as good, if not better, in any Harvester or Beefeater. The food itself was ok, but nothing special. The decor is beautiful, table settings were wonderful, with white cotton tablecloths and napkins, but the food definitely let it down. Added to that, we were the only diners...6 people in a restaurant that would seat at least 70!!! Hence, a total lack of atmosphe...

"Visit with friends. Arrived and the restaurant was very empty at that time of the evening. Shown to a table that had been allocated to us. Asked if we could move to another and I was initially given the impression that that might be difficult. Just to say again that the tables were allocated rather than reserved. Another customer was making a similar request and after some back and forth we could both move. Not the greatest of starts. This restaurant specialises in Punjabi cuisine. That is what attracted us in the first place when reviewing the menu online before we booked. Starters were of a generous size but rather stodgy. Perhaps more filling for a starter than you might expect particularly if you had ordered a main course and were intending to have a dessert. In contrast my wives dessert was very small for the price charged. The main courses were very spicy even though we requested mild. I appreciate that is a preference on our parts but my wife felt the same. We went with a friend who was visibly sweating. He comment on his main fish course was that under the spice it was a little bland. A lady I took to be the owner asked if we were enjoying our main couse? We commented on how spicy they were and asked for some yoghurt to cool them down. This was supplied with no issues and in fact my wife's prawns (only three found sadly) and my lamb main course were taken back to the kitchen to have I assume some of the chillies taken out or additional yoghurt added. This was done very politely and efficiently. Just to add we have absolutely no issues with regional food differences whether they may be. Perhaps our preference in this instance for less spice takes away from the experience the restaurant seeks to give. However requesting when ordering a mild version, and when asked what we preferred as well, makes the customer right. To drink. A beer for me and our friend. A cranberry juice for my wife which apparently tasted like a squash. Service left something to be desired as well I am afraid. On our initial table three menus supplied. On the second only one and had to ask for two more. Table wiped down after our main courses but only one corner? Had to ask several times for the bill, having asked the lady above who dealt with the spicy food issues. In fact she was eating her evening meal behind us with other customers and jumped up and apologised when she realised she had not let us have our bill. The waitress who we dealt with initially about our table allocation asked at the end of our meal if we had enjoyed it and if we would return. Afraid we said no to both. We had a mutually respectable conversation as to why not and discussed the issues above and others. So a disappointing evening I am afraid. However this is a true reflection of our experience from our perspectives."
