"We went to the Red Lion for my birthday on Sunday evening and were quite disappointed, especially after reading the glowing 5-star reviews about their roast dinners. When we arrived, our table had not been cleaned and there were leftovers and rubbish on the floor. I ordered the beef sirloin, which was overcooked, dry, and chewy, and there was very little gravy on all of our roasts. They had run out of pigs in blankets, red cabbage, truffle mash, and we only managed to get 1 extra Yorkshire pudding before they ran out of their supposed unlimited supply. My Dad's partner ordered the half chicken and it did not come with any breast meat. Furthermore, the staff failed to inform us that the kitchen had closed, so we missed out on the opportunity to order desserts. Overall, our experience did not meet our high expectations and we will not be returning to this restaurant."

During our recent visit, we enjoyed high-quality meals, helpful and friendly staff, quick service, and a variety of options for vegetarian diners.

Nipped in for couple of drinks one evening while staying in St Albans, very friendly landlord, pub with a lot of character and a great soundtrack of music

Lovely garden with a friendly pub dog, and best of all it’s kid free! A wonderfully peaceful pub to meet friends without the disruption of other peoples children.

Ate here with a friend a week ago. The meal was excellent and the service relaxed but impeccable. Chef/ landlord exceptionally concerned to accommodate my friend who has tricky dietary needs.

Fantastic lunch with my good friend of 52 years from school. He lives Chicago now but distance is no barrier, fantastic food and the landlord parked the car for me. It doesn't get better than that.

We had lunch here after a lovely walk with our pooch. The pub has a real old charm and oozes character. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The menu is varied, catering for a range of eating styles. We both had the burger, the patty and sauce were exceptional.

It’s the 27th of April 2023 cover my husband tonight and I dog Molly walked into the front door to be greeted by an aggressive dog. The manager/owner said he’s only been here a week and he hasn’t done that before, so if you’re thinking about taking your door or young Children to this pub, on the drinks review we have been there several times the barmaid doesn’t know the difference between so the lemonade or tonic or soda. I think they do a cocktail of the leftovers mixers . And the owner has a bad attitude towards his customers would never go back again

The restaurant was understaffed for the early evening rush, with the overwhelmed staff sharing their struggles with patrons at the bar. Despite the lovely atmosphere and comfortable surroundings, one staff member appeared visibly stressed and upset. The menu offered a variety of options from vegan dishes to meat meals, with some of the food being delicious. However, a chicken burger was found to be raw, with pink edges and a slimy texture. After attempting to address the issue with staff, the problem went unresolved and the customer decided to leave without eating the food due to medical concerns. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially considering the positive dining experienc...

"Yammin-Yummy says. ... 5 stars ... also a rarely awarded- 'beezybonus'. . . now, where do I begin to begin with such an amazingly appealing selection of freshly prepared foods that one would naturally expect that, already cooked, sitting, waiting for the next hungry expected customers. this can sometimes cook up to 10-20-50mins before they are placed in front of them. not here. freshly cooked. now this beautiful example of a traditional 'fish chip love affair, established over generations of Friday nights, was beautifully designed to tell their mouth, tonge taste panties, please attach their belts, and then it is about them an incredible arbor ride. ... one who seems to go up just as once they decided what's going in their mouth first (at least the crispy tail end) begins their incredible journey up; as their eyebrows increase during thinking, omg that 's sooo different good, light, crispy teig as I've never tasted in my 37 years since the beginning in the food industry. And then I made the mistake of dipping my squid in the homemade tartaric acid sauce. that is when the 1st massive fear happened, as I thought, oh my days; the better then mean, re-entry, deeper, actually cure my wrist action, to ensure maximum absorption of this sweet/creamy/tart/caper filled taste, as I reached for a chip to accompany, strengthen the excellent experience I thought stupid would be a 'standard thing'. Now I took care of you like this, but I have seen on my chips a few each mouthful was an experience, depending on how I stacked the fork, hahahaha. the fish was so fresh that I was looking on my teller sand. ... to dedicate a joy to each chip. ... the muddy heaps, normally warmed, not microshaft to a mass-hotter-then-the-sun, went a tasty bite, and quickly also, for once. the lemon shattered haddock had to be tied to the plate, because this teig was so light that it almost raised to the deck. but as soon as this handmade tasty tartaric acid sauce meets, any responsible 'handler-of-the-fork', wants to make sure that its only trajectory can be swallowed in their waiting swallow. It was so good, I couldn't stand to leave a single diesel and with this tartaric acid sauce, which even made a bulky chip, was nothing left, I was ashamed to ask the cook the recipe for 'this sauce', as he made such a light oil-free beautiful teig. the staff is very attentive, courteous, with a beautiful large sitting area also. get yourself here quickly bungalows to make an ordinary experience, in an excellent exciting eating expedition into a court that we all know so well, but so different. ... enjoy."

"Ever since they opened, I 've been for family gatherings, social events and dates and every time it has not disappointed. The staff are always welcoming and have a positive attitude. They are attentive, happily explaining the menu and how food should be ordered making recommendations. The menu itself doesn 't overwhelm with choice and is perfect for those with all tastes. There are plenty of veggie options and the wine is impeccably selected. The food is absolutely delicious and very well presented. The quality is evident. The portion sizes are perfect and not just stomach fillers (e.g. excess bread or rice). Every bite feels worth it. Please be aware that this restaurant is about sharing and each dish is made for it. There are no 'courses '. It 's about ordering the dishes you want and they will arrive when ready. With all the above in mind, this does mean that the prices are on the higher end and with alcohol you can expect to spend around £40 per person if you also include desserts (which are also incredible, especially the Creme brûlée). This might seem expensive, but remember, it 's about the experience, not just the food! Tabure is worth every penny in my humble opinion. If it 's just the two of you and you 'd like something different with a significant other, I 'd highly suggest requesting seats at the chefs table over looking the charcoal grill! It 's amazing watching the chefs work their magic and adds so much to the experience that most restaurants don 't provide."
