"Our party of four arrived at this pub on a damp evening and were greeted with a warm smile which is always a good sign. Our friends had been many times before and had spoken about Di’s pies. Three of us had starters, two squid and one jalapeño. Then two venison steak and two pies. A large bowl of vegetables accompanied the meal. Just two desserts, profiteroles and cheesecake. The food was delicious and cooked very well. The place wasn’t too busy, so our food came out very promptly. A lovely experience and I know our friends will return, as we were visiting from Essex, I’m sure that when we next stay, we’ll be back. Lovely staff, lovely evening. Well done Di!"

We had lunch there today on local recommendation, 10/10 for service food and having a nice relaxing atmosphere. The burger was amazing, the photo doesn't do it justice

Lovely traditional country pub. Lots of little cozy rooms. Real Ale kept very well. Food very good. Quality pub grub. Homemade pie was cracking. Dog friendly which makes it even more perfect. Pudding menu rather good too. Voir le carte

Went for lunch on a lovely summer’s day. The pub is lovely both inside and out, the menu has lots of choice and the staff are very friendly. Our food was very well presented and delicious. Our only regret was being to full to try a dessert…. We will definitely be returning

Had Sunday lunch yesterday and it was delicious, shared a baked Camembert which came with plenty of bread and fresh salad. Turkey dinners were a good size with the apricot stuffing and roast potatoes standing out. Homemade cheesecake and bread and butter pudding were not...

Poor variety of both drinks and food. Had a mix grill but have to say I’m not sure what was what. The steak was the smallest steak and that was on the biggest mix grill because apparently they had 1 standard and 1 large mixed grill . There was something on the plate that I couldn’t describe but was 100% meat of some sort but all tasteless. Best part of the meal was the chips. I’d recommend 1 thing about this place and that’s don’t go. Voir le carte

This is a lovely pub with atmosphere. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pies were meaty and had flaky pastry. The sea bream was so tender and chips were crunchy. I was able to order off a gluten free menu which was extensive even the desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was very good. The waitresses were friendly and able to answer questions confidently on the menu. We will definitely be back, the garden looked like a great spot in summer. This place is a real find.

Came here for Sunday lunch during the bank holiday weekend. As always the meal, service and location did not disappoint. We both had 3 courses (this time we were determined to sample one of the wonderful desserts on offer) and could not fault a single thing, all were delicious and perfectly portioned. Although we live in Bewdley this is now our go to pub/restaurant as we find that the combination of location, service, value and terrific food just cannot be beaten anywhere else locally.

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity. "Fantastic range of small dishes and meals for lunch and dinner. The menu ranges from scandi to oriental, so something for everyone. The menu is clearly marked with allergens, including what meals can be adapted. The chicken is halal and vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful. The cocktail and mocktail menu is great and they do one of the best espresso martinis in Shrewsbury. The decor is modern and comfortable and there is plenty of space. As a wheelchair user, I can get into the ground floor and to a table. The outside seats are up a small step, but the whole front of the building is a retractable wall of windows, so I can still get the feeling of eating outside in good weather. The service is friendly and knowledgeable about allergies, the menu and the wine list. The staff are helpful and unobtrusive. The only difficulty for me (hence the 4 star review) is that the accessible bathroom is next door, in their sister bar, Libertine. Unfortunately, libertine isn't open the same hours as HotRS, so I can only use it at certain times. The ladies does have a lock on the door, so staff have cleared the ladies toilets, which allowed me to take my chair in and lock the door. I had to walk a couple of steps to get into a stall but my chair was safely with me. Of course, there is also no alarm cord, but they stood outside the door so would have heard if I shouted for help."
