"We visited this restaurant twice during our holiday and were very impressed with the great food at reasonable prices. There was plenty of choice on the menu and specials board. The service was quick and friendly. The first time, I tried the curry from the specials board which came with half chips and half rice, both portions were generous and there was plenty of curry. My friend ordered the chicken parmesan with chips, which was a very large portion and delicious. The second time, I had the chicken and chorizo pie with potatoes and vegetables, it was full of large chunks of chicken and very tasty. My friend had the beef goulash with dumplings which she enjoyed. The portions were so filling that we didn't have room for dessert. There were two ales on the bar, Old Peculier seemed to be the regular beer and it was just what I was looking for."

"Having decided to visit Whitby for the first time I found The Witching Post while searching for dog friendly accommodation and as soon as I found it knew it was the one for us and was not disappointed.The Inn oozes has charm and hospitality in shed loads thanks to the owner, Pete, his staff and his regulars. Evening in the bar are the perfect place to unwind after a long day out visiting the beautiful oast and moorlands nearby.Our room was very comfortable and we were made to feel very at home and welcome. This was extended to our two dogs (a GSD and Frenchie) who were welcomed by Nellie, the resident dog, as well as all the humans they came into contact with.The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. I can recommend the sirloin steaks excellent and all condiments were available.......including apple sauce!!I did not get to sample the famous beef cobbler so a return visit is a must. The whole place is spotlessly clean. We are hoping to make a return visit to the North Yorks Coast in Spring next year and will be returning to the Witching Post and will book early so as to request our room . Our home from home in North Yorkshire"

"Rooms: They meet all expectations for a warm and welcoming establishment. Nearby activities: Being located in the North Yorkshire Moors, there is so much to enjoy—from the beautiful coast at Whitby to plenty of picturesque countryside perfect for walking. Additionally, there’s a historic railway that offers a great way to explore the area. Safety: The roads in this quiet countryside are well signposted and safe to navigate."

"The landlord would appear to hate tourists and walkers a little strange given his chosen location….. he may be happier in a pub on South Bank Middlesbrough. He would appear to discourage walkers and tourists. We live 15 miles down the road and have never experienced such an unwelcome feeling. Upon discussion with locals apparently this is well known….. he just doesn’t like customers, unless you are in his club….. and you wonder why country pubs in North Yorkshire (I was borne and bread here) are closing down because of attitudes like this."

"The sheaf as it’s fondly known by locals is one of the many outstanding places to eat and drink the North Yorkshire moors national park has to offer. As with most popular and excellent places to eat no mater WHERE it is in the country booking is essential to avoid disappointment. The landlord doesn’t mess around and at Times can seem quite blunt, however this is all in aid of providing excellent food and service to his customers that have booked ahead and are ACTUALLY sat in his restaurant. It is a small pub with a small dining room so it can be difficult to accept walk in diners and it famously flatly refuses to serve “Gallon walkers” who can cause a unpleasant experience for family’s and take over the small but perfectly formed bar area. I have visited many times over the years and NEVER had a bad experience. Ignore winging reviewers, pick up the phone, book a table, turn up on time and enjoy a wonderful meal with good beer at a very reasonable price. If that’s too much to ask then please take your custom to one of the many other pubs and restaurants the national park has to offer, this place will still be full of locals and tourists alike enjoying a great meal. Note. I am absolutely not affiliated with the wheat sheaf or it’s owners in anyway. I am simply just tired of reading reviews from easily offended tourists slating the place which in turn may influence people and then them miss out on a genuinely excellent meal in a fantastic genuine countryside pub."
