"Rarely do I get the time or the motivation to review a stay at an establishment. However, The Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge stands head and shoulders above the norm and truly deserves a review. Over the years I have travelled extensively both in the British Isles and Overseas and it is very rare that I find an establishment that one simply cannot find fault. Last week, was my second stay at the Hare and Hounds, Bowland Bridge and it is the perfect overnight stay for when I have been driving South after working in Northern Scotland. The location and everything that this establishment offers presents an ideal and very cathartic stop for me after working away for long periods of time. The problem with the Hare and Hounds Inn is that everything is so professionally created with support from a warm and helpful team, both front and back of house, that it then tempts one to try desperately hard to try and find fault in something. I have a very detailed and critical eye, but I can honestly say that I cannot find fault in any aspect of this wonderful Inn. Thank you Andrew it was a pleasure meeting you and please pass on to your whole team my sincere thanks and appreciation. Sincerely Martin Smith Rooms: Wonderful Food drinks: Wonderful Noteworthy details: Everything!"

Everything a country pub should be welcoming, friendly, cosy and delicious food. Possibly the best fish and chips I’ve ever had super crispy batter (not greasy in the slightest! , fluffy white fish and perfectly cooked fat chips plus homemade tartar sauce, mushy peas and chip shop gravy on the side. I also had a taste of my friend’s beef ale pie wow! Can’t wait to go back. Rooms: 5

Lovely food. I had the trio of sausage, 3 different locally sourced sausages on a bed of mash, onions, gravy and veg. The sticky toffee pudding and toffee sauce was to die for! Lovely cosy atmosphere, the waitress put the fire on for us too which was a nice touch. There’re dog friendly too which, when you’re in the lakes as a tourist is a massive bonus! They do gluten free meals too. The meringue was lovely, and the steak which my partner had said ‘was on par to a Miller and Carters’

"Lunch at 2pm on a Sunday. seated in the dog friendly quiet centre of the pub in the bar area. drinks were served promptly and orders taken efficiently. some warm brown sourdough crusty bread arrived and all seemed good. my wife’s guinea fowl was tasty and well cooked and the sides of beetroot and green vegetables were enjoyable. my beef was tough and dry and flavourless. i would have asked for a sharper knife to cut it but i couldn’t catch a waiters eye. i should have complained but despite being seated in the middle of the pub near the bar no one came back to the table till 15mins after my wife had finished her meal. eventually the table was cleared and despite most of the beef being left on the plate nothing was said. we asked for the bill and it wasn’t until the point of paying that someone asked how the food was. it was not good enough. the pub really seems to be struggling to meet pre pandemic standards and i could not recommend the beef for Sunday lunch. the head waiter seemed surprised the beef was not pink but from looking at other dinners’ meals i d be more surprised if any had been served pink that service. if you are after a good roast beef dinner i d avoid the Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite Food drinks: Lunch at 2pm on a Sunday. seated in the dog friendly quiet centre of the pub in the bar area. drinks were served promptly and orders taken efficiently. some warm brown sourdough crusty bread arrived and all seemed good. my wife’s guinea fowl was tasty and well cooked and the sides of beetroot and green vegetables were enjoyable. my beef was tough and dry and flavourless. i would have asked for a sharper knife to cut it but i couldn’t catch a waiters eye. i should have complained but despite being seated in the middle of the pub near the bar no one came back to the table till 15mins after my wife had finished her meal. eventually the table was cleared and despite most of the beef being left on the plate nothing was said. we asked for the bill and it wasn’t until the point of paying that someone asked how the food was. it was not good enough. the pub really seems to be struggling to meet pre pandemic standards and i could not recommend the beef for Sunday lunch. the head waiter seemed surprised the beef was not pink but from looking at other dinners’ meals i d be more surprised if any had been served pink that service. if you are after a good roast beef dinner i d avoid the Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite Service: 2 Location: 4"
