"The best way to describe the Creel Inn is that the kitchen showcases a remarkable level of skill. My wife and I enjoyed a two-course lunch there today after a refreshing walk from Stonehaven to Dunnotar Castle, so we were definitely hungry! I had the black pudding scotch egg served on pea shoots with a peppercorn sauce, followed by battered haddock and chips. My wife chose a crayfish salad, which was followed by mussels in a chili and coconut sauce. The sauce for the mussels was one of the finest I’ve ever tasted; my wife insisted I try it, and the layers of flavor were truly outstanding. The scotch egg was excellent, and the fish and chips were among the best you can find on the east coast of Scotland—the batter was light and crispy, the chips were heavenly, and the fish was cooked to perfection. The prices were reasonable, and the house wines were very enjoyable. Overall, it’s a delightful restaurant well worth the effort to find (it certainly confused our sat nav!)."

Was a bit empty when we were there on Sunday afternoon which is a shame as used to be queuing for a table. Food was decent but again used to be fantastic so it’s disappointing it’s gone down hill a bit. Generally lovely food, although the Halibut special was very overcooked today and too dry to finish my mouthful in time to tell the waiter. She wasn't hanging round though and when the fish was left on the plate, she was quick enough again to argue she'd asked me if it was OK. Not the service I'd expect. Quite disappointing.
