"We stayed at The Forge B a few steps away and ate at The Buck whilst walking the coast to coast path. Chop Gate is tiny and The Buck is a hub of activity and a natural meeting point for village locals and walkers. it is one of the places where the Cleveland Way overlaps the Coast to Coast and we very much enjoyed meeting walkers in the convivial, welcoming atmosphere of The Buck. The food is well above average pub food, and the service is brisk and unobtrusive. Open topped pie was savoury and meaty with good, firm hot water crust pastry beneath. The prawn starter had a bit too much squirty balsamic but that of course is a matter of personal taste. The cakes and desserts are stunning but the generous portions made dessert a bridge too far for us. Good beer too."

Delicious Carvery with 6 joints including venison and lamb, or fresh salmon and fresh local vegetables and of course Yorkshire pudding, along with a great selection of German and draught beers.

Recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. Good home cooked Sunday lunch with not one Yorkshire pudding but two. Plenty of fresh vegetables. Good choice of deserts. Would well recommend a visit.

Food was plentiful and piping hot when it arrived , we didn't wait too long either. Only down side to this establishment was the booking system online. When we booked it via the website, we didn't get a reply for a few days.

We have had the Sunday carvery for the third year running whilst on our holidays, it never fails to impress us! My husband has eaten the most perfectly cooked roast beef. Staff are friendly and welcoming. We are already looking forward to next year, thank you!

My family love Sunday lunch at this great little pub in the most fabulous location. 10 of us visited yesterday and with a choice of 6 meats (including venison) and as many vegetable choices it’s perfect for Sunday dinner. I have never seen as much meat on one plate as my nephew had!!! My partner loved the venison. I loved the gravy as that can make or break a Sunday lunch !! Absolutely delicious and we will keep coming back.

This was my first visit and I was thoroughly overjoyed! Incredibly dog friendly, and after doing a 10 mile walk across the moors this was a welcome stop! We had a table booked as family was meeting us there. Nice and cosy, sat in main area with faithful lab beside me (when we left a lot of the diners exclaimed about how quiet he was they didn't know he was even there! The service was fast and polite and the food prompt and delicious! Really looking forward to my next visit!

We have been coming to the buck inn as a family for Sunday dinner carvery for a while now and it was always our favourite as the food was amazing, lots of choice, good quality and different to any other place in the area. Today we were so disappointed to find out they’ve stopped the carvery dinners and and now serve Sunday dinner like any other pub. The food was bang average and the price was still the same. It’s lost is appeal because now it’s like any other average pub dinner.Sorry to say we won’t be returning unless they change back to how it was.

Had a lovely meal here on the lunchtime. It was very quiet and the pub wasnt open at 12 .10 so we sat in the carpark and waited as we had phoned to book a table. We were impressed with the menu and on the special's board. It may be a problem if you are a vegetarian though as on the menu we had there was no vegetarian option.I had venison goulash with spaetzle while my husband loved his pork chop ,sauerkraut, pickled cabbage and mash. The German beer I had went down a treat. The owner Wolfgang and the barman were very friendly. The owner's wife may need some lessons in customer service as she didnt make us feel welcome at all.

"I’ve wanted to eat here since I moved north in November and it’ll be the first of many visits from now on. Our first time here with a table for 5 and all sharing meant we tasted a big section of the menu (see images of the menu). Each of the portions was very generous to say the least. What amazed us all we’re the complex flavour combinations. They were slightly weird on some but they all worked and very well too. Alkaline Nachos £10.95 Nachos with marinated baked quinoa, topped with refried beans, cashew sour cream, guacamole, pineapple salsa and pickled red cabbage. All with a smoked cashew cheese drizzle over. They were indulgent, sweeter than I’ve had before and had tangy twist too. BBQ Tacos £9.50 Shredded carrot in an alkaline BBQ sauce in a crispy corn shell, filled with refried beans and guacamole. Topped with pineapple salsa and pickled red cabbage, served with a side salad. Best BBQ tacos in the north so far. Thai Buddy Bowl £10.95 Orange teriyaki chickpea tofu surrounded by, pineapple 'fried ' quinoa, purple coleslaw, a thai side salad, with an almond and ginger dressing and quinoa falafels topped with mango chutney. Crazy flavours that worked really well. This was my favourite dish and I could eat this most days of the week. I’ll be back for this dish on its own. Thai Wrap £9.95 Quinoa and peanut butter falafels in a soft wrap with mango chutney, coleslaw and kimchi served with a thai side salad, with an almond and ginger dressing and pineapple quinoa. A mental combination of ingredients for a falafel but was amazing. Again, sweeter than I’d have imagined. Pink Pitaya Acai Bowl £5.50 A fruity smoothie bowl topped with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, banana kiwi and coconut (we held the seeds). What an amazing breakfast. A real power breakfast too. Immunity Boost Juice £4.00 (x2) Strawberry, pear, apple and lemon juice. Refreshing and moreish. Tropical Sunrise Smoothie £4.50 Papaya, mango, orange, banana, coconut, maple and cashew smoothie. It was as nice as you’d expect and none of the fruits lost their identity due to the power of another. Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie £4.50 Strawberries, banana, peanut butter, maple and lemon smoothie. Another one that doesn’t quite sound right but really does. The peanut butter was not overpowering and provided a nice earthy grainy taste and texture, lifted by the sweetness of the fruit. A great experience and worth the wait. Would I recommend Ohhhhhh Yes"
