"My husband and I got married at the blacksmith shop this week and stayed at this hotel with our wedding guests. We would never recommend this place to anyone looking to get married. We have come away disgusted with the way we was treated on our wedding day by certain staff members. The rudest person of them all was a lady called Alice who worked in the restaurant. She made me cry on my own wedding day with how she kept trying to start arguments from the moment we arrived for our wedding meal. She kept prodding us with sarcastic remarks all the time was constantly watching us to try and make an issue over literally anything. She was absolutely vile with the way she thought she could talk to us. The woman even got a tape measure out on our wedding day for social distancing on tables (long story short: mine and the grooms table was so far away from our guests we had to shout to the tables it was a joke they went past the 2M ruling!!! So we moved our table slightly closer to our guests so we could actually hear them and she then had the cheek to get a tape measure out UNBELIEVABLE. This is not how to treat guests especially on their wedding day!! There is a way to speak to people and it certainly wasn’t this!! We then complained about her to another member of staff and it was a pack mentality in this hotel and she was allowed to talk to people however she wanted. I just wanted to add that other wedding parties in the restaurant was getting away with singing, standing up and mingling, music on their phone speakers but nope... this woman had it in for us all night. I think she took good pleasure out of getting an argument out of myself and my guests. Will never be coming back here. Just so grateful we had lovely friends and family there who made the day lovely for us otherwise this would of been a hell hole."

Amazing hotel, quiet, great food but the staff make it! Its like home from home when I stay over for work. Emily Kirsty always remember me and make me feel very welcome. Best hotel in Gretna/Carlisle area.

We stayed here as my brother and his fiancee were being married across the road Gretna green forge which is little more than 100 yards away. All the rooms were spotlessly clean, bed was comfortable and the buffet breakfast in the morning was as good as it gets with plenty of choice.

We had issues with the EV charging station in the car park and found ourselves stranded as the chargers at the near by services were also not working. The staff at the hotel couldn’t be more helpful. We would definitely use this hotel based purely on the positive and helpful attitude of the staff. Thank you for your help Voir le carte

We had a great experience at Smiths for our Wedding dinner, we had to pre order, but they got it all correct and the servings were very generous. My steak was delicious, we had two fussy eaters with us and they ate more than the other 6 people, so it must have been good! Large selection of wine too, so great evening, and friendly staff. The restaurant itself has lovely decor.

During our stay in Gretna Green to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary, we decided to dine at Smiths restaurant after a long drive from our home in Salisbury. We both enjoyed a delicious curry dish and were impressed by the excellent service provided by the staff. However, we were taken aback by some of the prices on the menu. Despite wanting to try the steak, we found the price of £30 each to be too steep. Overall, the curry was a standout dish that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Couldn’t get into Gretna inn for lunch barmaid suggested we try smiths. Rather pricey but quite swanky. Service slow although very quiet. Dining room very quiet but we were served in the lounge to eat off coffee table. Rather awkward uncomfortable. The food however was a treat. The burger the fish chips offered large portions (way to many chips). Fish was beautifully cooked fresh. Only issue was that both meals came pre salted. If we had been pre warned I could have asked for an unsalted meal Voir le carte

This hotel is conveniently located just off the highway and offers spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. It is a popular venue for weddings, so it can get quite busy, especially in the bar and during breakfast. The staff are helpful and friendly, although they may need more support during busy periods with large groups. The breakfast experience was a bit disappointing as they kept running out of items. However, we had a fantastic dining experience at the restaurant and would highly recommend it.

We had dinner here the night before we were married. ‘Artisan bread with oils’ came as a shared starter. A massive plate of huge chunks of bread which had been shoved in the oven to warm I presume, but was toasted, hard and dried up. We asked for fresh bread which was not toasted and hard. Same bread came back, pretty stale and crumbly, we didn’t eat it. The oil was horrible and the balsamic vinegar in the oil was the thick balsamic glaze which you squirt on food! My main of roasted beetroots salad would have been ok if it hadn’t been absolutely soaked in horrible olive oil, there was no other dressing other than a squirt of the balsamic glaze again. My partners chicken cesar salad was spoil...

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
