"We were staying in the premier inn next door staying in the area for a family occasion. We booked a table well in advance for 11 people and offered the saver menu alongside the main menu. Everyone pre ordered there meals and emailed to pub weeks before. We were seated at 7 pm and around 45 mins later started receiving our meals after much confusion to what meals we were having even though it was all emailed to them. My steak was lovely and most of our meals were great. My father in law was very disappointed with his sea bass. Said that the veg etc that went with it was all dry and like it had been sat on the kitchen side for awhile and reheated . We went back to the pub on our second night. Asked for the saver menu that does state on there website runs from May Mon-Thurs each week to be told that it wasn’t available so was given the full price menu only. I ordered the Duo of chicken after being told my first choice of meal wasn’t available because they’d run out. It arrived. The chicken breast was so dry I couldn’t eat it. The chicken strips and rice were cold very disappointing. I’m afraid I couldn’t eat it. I did complain and rightfully so I wasn’t charged for it. We have family who live in the area and visit regularly. We certainly wouldn’t return to this pub."

Went in twice over the weekend had at least one of my family steak. It was cooked to perfection and no trace of fat what so ever. Staff very helpful. Thank you Chef Andy and team

The older woman who serves you when you enter is very unfriendly. Normal food from an English pub. Nothing special. They didn't have the dessert on the menu that we wanted either. I wouldn't go back

Went here for food this evening ordered the mix grill which was just over £20. Not worth it, looked like frozen packet meat, and for the price thought it would be bigger.. 1 egg, no mushrooms or onion rings. Chips although nice were minimal. Definitely wouldn’t order again. Voir le carte

We ate at The Ship whilst visiting family in the area. We hadn’t booked but on arrival the pub wasn’t too busy we were able to get a table. The staff were friendly efficient taking our drinks order whilst we chose our food, that arrived promptly. No-one had any issues with their meals the same with the desserts. We would definitely visit again when back in the area.

Visited twice over the weekend. Saturday evening things were okay. Definitely a lack of staff. Sunday was a shocker. Waiter with sh1t attitude and lacked manners. My carvery trio of meats were kiddy portions. When I said something I was told well it is the end of the day . Everything looked and tasted like it was the last dregs. Plates were thrown down on the table. Not very professional.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome at The Ship Inn. We sat in the bar area with our dog who was immediately given water and a blanket to lie on, there were even dog treats on the bar. The staff were so friendly and the service was excellent, a real credit to the pub. Food wise we chose the sea bass and the mixed grill and for dessert the chocolate fondant and vanilla cheesecake. The dog had a sausage! All of the dishes were delicious. We will definitely be returning. Voir le carte

One of my regular bus rides out brought me here on Wednesday 21st Aug. I seem to have a knack of visiting pubs for meals just before it gets busy two groups arrived just after I had ordered! Gammon steak came with a good sized portion of chips and garden peas and a nicely fried egg. Service was quite prompt, and importantly, everything was piping hot. Only drawback was not associated with the pub and was an accident in the hill between Alveston and Thornbury, leading to the road closure and buses being up to 45 minutes late! Hey, but I got home having enjoyed the food and a few pints of GK IPA!

We were caught in a horrendous traffic jam with our dog, so we decided to get some food let it die down rather than keep her in the car for a few hours. On walking in we were advised that due to being short staffed in the kitchen they weren't taking walk ins but they'd ask the Chef as was just the 3 of us. The Chef kindly agreed to get us some dinner, and even agreed to cook our dog some chicken sausages as we're were there for a few hours after a day at work so she was getting hungry, and didn't even mind when she wanted her own quiet moment since they had room, we wouldn't let her do it if the tables were needed of course). They went out of their way to make us her feel welcome despite the...

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
