"Great pub, we stopped here as it was the mid point on our Watership Down 10 mile walk (Fancy Free Walks). The landlady was extremely welcoming and friendly when we arrived some 50 minutes before our booked table. It was Bank Holiday Monday and quite quiet. We sat in the garden with a couple of pints and a jug of pins, all very nice. We chose Fish and Chips, Burger with Cheese and a Cesar Salad, all of which was a delight, generous portions and well presented. There was satisfaction all round. The homemade puddings, Chocolate Torte, Ice Cream and Afogata with Bailey's were all good. We set off on the second half of our walk well fed and looked after. We would recommend the pub as an essential stopping point. The only reason I gave 4 stars for atmosphere was on account of it not being busy at the time we visited. Highly recommended."

Absolutely splendid meal. Literally everything is home made, even the ice cream. Super tasty. Service was great and the couple running the pub were so friendly

We stopped here for lunch on May Bank Holiday Monday, what a lunch. We had great service and the food was delicious. The menu is short and that is a good thing. We had Burger, Fish Chips and a Cesar Salad, all were a good sized portion and delicious. Would highly recommend a visit.

Went for mile walk round Ecchinswell and Sydmonton. The Royal Oak welcomed us parking at the pub before our walk. After a lovely walk we had a meal. My wife had a veggie option and I had the herb crusted cod. Both very nice. Service good and all friendly. Nice pub nothing to criticise.

Wonderful pub! We went to have a Saturday evening meal and were extremely happy with everything. I had the chicken and mushroom pie, I believe it was the best pie I have had in my 56 years. They were trialling cans of short run beers and stouts, lovely hazy IPA. I would heartily recommend a visit, if not for the food, the wonderful building and grounds. Set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the country.

We called at the Royal Oak on the drive home from the New Forest to Bedford. We were warmly welcomed and seated almost immediately. The food was adequate. I had the beer battered haddock with skin on fries my partner had pork fillet and cheek with chard and mash. The fish was well cooked not overcooked as is so often the case. My partners pork fillet was slightly chewy but the cheek was tender. It could have benefitted from a bit more gravy. The service was great.

Were there for a family event that was booked a week previous, the staff were rude running round like headless chickens, they couldnt supply food to some of our party unless they had booked a table couldn't even supply bowl of chips I had booked a roast which was bland and couldn't give us extra gravy and the veg was poor red cabbage being one of them, I feel the veg should of been on a separate bowl for you to choose, one of our guests requested a coffee but told they didn't have time to make it but could do a tea won't be going there again.

We stopped for lunch from our walk of the North Wessex Downs to find a neat fronted pub in a village setting. Refreshingly, the front entrance was the way in! Once inside we were met by a series of rooms around two generous bars. A warm day so we navigated through the bar and dining room to the garden ... Partly laid to lawn and part courtyard. We chose a very comfortable, clean shaded spot in the courtyard. Just two Cask ales on tap and the one chosen was well served, fresh and well conditioned. A truly good pint...or two. Food was fast but delicious. Overall a friendly well run pub restaurant and good value.

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
