"The good reviews led us to this pub after a very long muddy walk at Pamber Forest with my dog and a friend. Unfortunately we did not feel welcome, it didn’t feel warm. It felt snubby like “local pub for local people”. It was quiet when we came around ~13:50 on a saturday afternoon. I asked if they are serving lunch, i was told they stopped serving food at 2.. (checked my watch and it was only less than 10min to two). We were also told they only accept cash. It would help if they put somehere in the details to say only accepts cash. I would have gone with cash in hand! Overall, just very disappointed…the lady behind the bar came across like she did not want to serve us. We were desparate for drinks or just water as we were walking for ~10kms and got lost in the way just to get to this pub. Shame."

Cosy pub with great selection of real ales, bitter and now gin. They have music nights, darts and crib nights. Cash only bar

Lovely old-fashioned pub, great little beer garden, good range of well-kept beers, lovely staff, and fantastic baguettes! Bring cash... Voir le carte

English country pub with an unspoilt interior serving cask ale. Really good experience. A range of baguettes are served that are excellent value, but only at lunch time.

Worth a visit. Traditional pub serving a wide selection of draught beers on pump and from barrel. Lunch consists of fresh baguettes stuffed to overflowing with a choice of a dozen or so fillings.

Cash only. If you are not local you’d likely to be turned away to be told they only accept cash. Somewhere here must say this pub only takes cash so people are aware and bring cash with them. It’s frustrating to finally get to here but turned away because they don’t take cards! Voir le carte

Great little pub ! Excellent sausage baguettes. My visit was with local family when on a little break in Bramley over Easter weekend. Our hosts suggested a quick walk to the Plough which we did and the Plough shimmered like the proverbial crock of gold at the end of the Rainbow. We weren't disappointed an excellent old school pub with good beer and lunches. We left far too soon as I would have stayed all afternoon. Well worth the trek !

I tried to book for a meal but was dismissed at once, telling me politely that they do not do food in the evening. I was about to ask if they only do lunchtimes but the man put the phone down on me, without any further explanation. I would not call this attitude very customer friendly. In any other country, they would be out of business. I read that they only welcome locals and I have just experienced that. A real shame that they don 't open up to customers but I guess that reflects the whole mentality of the owners or managers. PS:I had to put one star but obviously would have been none if allowed!

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
