"The are too few vegan or vegetarian restaurants around, so when I found The Barn Pub Restaurant, I was very keen to give it a try. I booked a table for two on a Saturday evening with the promise of an “All you can eat Around the World Buffet”. Sounded wonderful. Couldn’t wait! Upon arrival things went south almost immediately. We waited at the bar for nearly 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us. We were asked if we had booked and we said we had, but no booking could be found. I managed to find a phone record on my mobile and said that I’d called to book, but got told that they didn’t take bookings by phone, only online! Luckily the restaurant wasn’t terribly busy, so a table was found. We ordered drinks and paid for everything before sitting down. We walked across to the buffet and got asked if we’d been given plates at the bar? We said no, so the person at the buffet had to get plates for us. After that we had to fend for ourselves. On to the food… My idea of an “Around the World Buffet” was soon destroyed by what I can only describe as “Mum’s gone to Iceland, hit the vegan isle, come home and cooked everything by the directions on the packaging”. There was DIY vegan burger (burger, bun, salad and condiments), DIY hot dog (sausage, hot dog bun, condiments), stodgy vegan Mac’n’Cheese, vegan deep fried chicken bits with buffalo sauce, some sort of yellow gravy, mini corn on the cob, deep friend hash browns, deep fried onion rings, and seasoned chips. I have eaten better and healthier vegan and veggie food at Pizza Hut where the pizzas are freshly prepared and cooked and the salad bar has some degree of freshness and healthy choices. I’m glad I went because I know never to go again. They don't have a chef they have a cook. £40 wasted on a very disappointing dining experience."

"Visited the restaurant last night with 2 friends. It was very busy,we were squeezed on a table opposite the til and had to ask the people on the table to the side of us to move to let us in. Very cramped. The restaurant was extremely full yet very cold. My back was freezing all night. The food was at best mediocre I am afraid. I had mushroom and leek pie, extremely dry and hard to cut and tasteless to be honest, said came with roast potatoes but it was served with new potatoes. My friend had some sort of cut of meat on mashed potatoes which was also dry with no sauce. My other friend had fish pie which was mainly mashed potatoes and not much fish. We ordered cheesecake and crumble to share between us. Cheesecake was good, lots of berries with it but the crumble was just fruit and custard, absolutely no crumble topping whatsoever. No one came to ask us how the food was or I would have made my feelings known and I couldn’t actually get out from the table to even ask for glasses for the water we had with our meal (as well as wine) we were not asked after we had eaten or during payment either. I asked for decaf coffee which was clearly not decaf and I was actually still awake at 3am as it was served at 9.30. This is very poor customer service, people order decaf for a reason and more care should be taken or the customer should be told you do not have any. This is not a cheap place to eat and the standard last night was poor. I live in Burbage but will definitely not be rushing back"

"My family have visited this restaurant many times and have given me rave reviews. When l visited with them l realised what they were saying was true. The staff were very attentive, and very funny. They were kind enough to to give us assistance to make sure that my wheelchair bound, elderly mother was taken care of in the best possible way. The food was amazing, l particularly recomend the steamed mussels. The deserts were to die for. We all had a fantastic time. Thank you Barnacles, we will be back soon."

"Brand new people (a nice couple took over the Lion in the past few weeks. I’ve been in a few times and see they are slowly and surely turning the place round without fuss and stupid promises. Had our Sunday dinner in there last week and have to say it was excellent. You had to Pre-book which is fair enough as they explained they are building up the business so why spend so much money on stock. Really good home cooked meal so definitely will be back and brilliant value. 3 courses for £13. Well done and keep the good work going !"
