"Food was of good quality and we enjoyed the meal. The restaurant has been updated since we went a while ago with the booths which are a great idea. Service however was a bit patchy with some staff more attentive than others and we had to remind a couple of times chasing starter and drinks. But we got there and the food was pretty good and we had a good evening. A suggestion that the restaurant needs to rethink the water display which was above our table. Doesn’t suit the old building and looks a bit out of place but it isn’t great to sit under as the entire meal is eaten under this weird blue light. My wife found it difficult to read the menu and I actually found at the end of the meal my eyes were getting sore this can be seen in the attached photos. Anyway food was good and I would go back!"

Yet another delicious and tasty meal. The lamb shashlik was absolutely spot on and the tarka dahl so aromatic. Thanks for being consistently good. Was great to see the restaurant full this evening...a very jolly atmosphere.

I traveled from North Yorkshire to visit this restaurant and found the food to be absolutely fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly and the quality of the food was out of this world. I will definitely be coming back soon. - Paul

We were there for their Sunday lunch for our friends Birthday. It is a busy place and one you would have to book. The food choice was great and the staff were very helpful when asked about how strong the curry or dish was and suggested alternatives if required. Would certainly go back again if in the neighbourhood. Voir le carte

Had a lovely meal here while visiting the area. Restaurant was recommended to us and the food was delicious. Spicing was excellent and flavours were fantastic. Delicious well made naan bread and excellent samosas. Portions very generous. I do not understand the negative comments about service. All front of house staff were efficient and friendly. This was our first visit and we would definitely return.

I have been using this place for home delivery for over 6 years and despite the usual ups and downs, has always been good if not a bit pricey. Tonight however, the home delivery was an hour late, which is unusual for this place but when I unpacked it, all was not well. The Chicken Tikka Naga was so overcooked it was inedible as was the Ckicken Tikka Masala. There were 2 garlic Naans instead of 1 and 3 pots of Mint sauce to go with the Bhajee instead of 1. I would guess that 80% of the £37.20 cost went in the bin. Very disappointed and will go elsewhere for better quality of food.

I went to Melford Valley on Sunday evening with a large family group of 11 to celebrate our son going off to university. Despite originally booking for only 8, the staff were very accommodating and quickly set up the 3 extra places for us. We all ordered from the taster menu and there were plenty of options for the vegetarian and vegan members of our group. The service was quick, friendly, and most importantly, the food was fantastic! All 11 of us left agreeing that it was the best Indian meal we had in a long time. We will definitely be returning. Thank you, Melford Valley, for a lovely evening. 5 stars. Voir le carte

I stayed one night in Long Melford and was in the mood for a curry, so we decided to try out this restaurant. We were very happy with our choice. We ordered popadoms with chutneys, plain rice, special rice, chicken tikka masala, chicken naga, Bombay potatoes, onion bhaji, and naan bread. We also had 2 wines and 2 beers. The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we received. The food was exceptional, packed with flavor, generous portions, and beautifully presented. The service was excellent, the staff were friendly, and they were able to seat us right away even though we hadn't made a reservation. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return next time we ar...

Well I always entitle my reviews this way as experiences have elements of all three. In this case not at all as all of our dining experience were superb. The staff were very attentive smily and great service. This restaurant is family run and Robby one of the family was very friendly chatty and a very pleasant welcoming young man. We had the Sunday tasting menu but started with the traditional popperdomes and chutney tray yum yum.Followed by the eat as much as you can tasting menu lots of smaller dishes superb value and cooked to protection. Now I can be a Victor Meldrew lol but could 'nt find any fault with any element of our visit. This restaurant is a must visit Indian just read the review...

"I hope we were just unlucky, and I feel sad writing this, but it wasn't the best experience this weekend. We stayed overnight and had the tasting menu. The Creppy family are departed a while now, and the staff such as Henri that stayed on are long gone, they set unbelievably high standards which were always going to be hard to meet. We loved the room we stayed in, but the rest of the experience was a bit awkward. I feel sorry for them as it was super hot and it must be difficult to get staff at the moment, but when you have paid £500 for one night and food inc wine then things can be a bit disappointing. From the start we could tell that they were under the cosh, the manager was sick, and we were told repeatedly how busy they were tonight. We asked to eat 30 mins later than booked which they said would help. We ordered a half bottle of champagne but had to wait about 15 minutes as the fridge was broken at it would not be cold. It arrived and wasn't cold enough really, then after 10 minutes in the ice bucket it was. Simultaneously other guests were told the coffee machine was also broken. A bit of a shame as we were celebrating a birthday and it sort of spoiled the moment waiting for a drink. Then ordered a 2014 Pomerol which to be honest I found really rather average, but that is the luck of the draw. The food was quite good, but only one course impressed us, the trout was good. The staff seem very downbeat to the point of it being awkward, one told us and another table to make as much mess as we like as it was her last shift. Others seemed very awkward and lacking confidence/a smile. Again, hard to get quality staff at the moment, but there seemed to be a lack of pride/confidence in what is being delivered. I also asked for cheese to finish off, in the past they had a glorious cheese cart with a huge selection of great cheeses. I accept maybe it was too hot for this, but I was simply given a plate of three cheeses, no one asked me if I would like to choose anything or for example do I like blue cheese. Then when it was delivered my wife tried one of them, liked it so asked what it was, and they didn't know what the cheese was which is probably not what they aspire to. makes me sad as the cheese at the Great House is stuff of legend. More minor stuff: Breakfast wise the coffee in the percolator was way too strong even for someone who likes strong coffee, a tiny shot of milk was not enough so we asked for more, would have been nice to be offered hot milk to make Cafe Au Lait etc. Also another minor point, the soap and shower gels were quite horrible, they stick to you and don't wash off, not something I'm usually bothered about, but the half empty containers looked like they had be refilled with something not very nice, or it was just never very good. When we checked out I think the manager may have been back, he did not ask us once how our stay had been so we had no real chance to say anything. We tried to be understanding and of course being British nothing was really a problem for us, but when you've spent £500 for a birthday it was all a bit disappointing and not nearly up to par. I sympathise that it might have been a difficult night, but to be honest it would have come off better if I hadn't been reminded every few minutes that they were so busy and everything going wrong. I'm not even sure that they were that busy, the terrace was out of bounds and the restaurant was 3/4 full. Matters were drawn in to focus the next day when we went to the Weavers Spa, and also for lunch at the Crown in Stoke by Nayland, staff were cheerful, helpful and great at both of these local places. Sorry for writing this negative review which I feel sad to have written about a place we used to love. Rooms: 4 Service: 2 Location: 4"
