We were a group of 5 friends and had a really lovely evening at McKenzies. The staff were absolutely lovely, friendly and attentive. The food and wine were delicious especially the lamb on the bone, the naans and the chicken tikka masala yummy! Thank you for a lovely evening McKenzies.

From the moment we arrived we knew we’d made a mistake! We were ignored by the staff and only shown to our table after asking a member of staff. We had to ask for a wine menu, ask to order our drinks, asked to order our food. The food at best was disappointing, we ordered the King Platter which should have been enough for four at best it was enough for three. No one asked if we were happy with the food and service, also napkins and dirty glasses were left on the bar during the whole of our stay. We won’t be back and definitely won’t be recommending to anyone!

I booked McKenzies 2 months in advance for my mums 80th Birthday. We confirmed 2 days before. We arrived and the table wasn’t ready. We waited while a table was set up. We then waited 20 minutes for our drinks order to be taken. Twenty minutes later our drinks order had not arrived but our food order was taken. Then one hour later still no food nearly two hours after we arrived. We were told 2 mins, then 15 mins later we were told another 2 minutes after which I asked to speak to the manager and we subsequently left and got fish and chips for my mum’s celebration. Not happy. It’s a shame that what was a really good (if on the pricey side) restaurant with great steaks and superb fish dishes to mention some of the dishes, is now a very average Indian restaurant. Saturday night and we were dining alone. Staff were good chicken was well cooked and moist but overwhelming flavour of my dish was oil with a bitter after taste! Lichfield has some really good Indian restaurants with a much better choice of dishes and I can’t see this one lasting long once people realise it’s no longer McKenzies. It’s actually now called Heritage bar and grill but website has not been updated from McKenzies time.

Me and my partner had previously gone here for food and drinks and had been fabulous. This time to food was poor at best, it didn't reflect the menu when you order prawn cocktail you do not expect shop bought coleslaw with prawns mixed in. The steak was bland and lacked flavour, the chips were not as described and were basic cheap chips. It was again poor and I did not finish that like the starter. The other starters of pate with garlic bread not as described and not worth the money. The Indian platter was ordered to share as a main that was described as OK but nothing special. We walked in and were ignored by a couple sitting at the bar without drinks, we did think they may have been the owners. We were greeted pleasantly, and that was the high point of the visit. We ordered drinks and waited for approx 20 mins for the wrong ones to be served. When we asked, it took a further 10mins for somebody to tell us that was the only cider they had. We then placed our order of starters and main meals. After 25 minutes, the starter's appeared one was correct and by some unknown reason an order for scallops turned into soup. We had our intimate wedding reception at The Loft area of the restaurant. We were so impressed by how the staff presented the truly unique area. Crisp white table cloths adorned the table with matching chair covers. Beautiful flowers decorated the tables and arch areas, it looked truly amazing! Such a unique and stunning place! The management and team are so thorough, thoughtful and attentive. They so aim to please with a ready smile. Such a credit to the establishment. This was booked by our friends who didn’t realise it was now actually an Indian restaurant, but we thought we’d all give it a go anyway. It was like a sit com. We arrived before our friends and had to show the man our booking on his screen the restaurant was empty, but he took us to a table off to the side, when I pulled out the chair, the seat was dirty. We tried to order our drinks at the table but I had to go up to the bar to determine what gin was available the drinks took ages to arrive my friend ordered a bottle of Prosecco they brought her 1 glass full, she sent it back and requested the bottle again! What a truly awful experience we had. We arrived at 7.30 for our reservation. After waiting an hour for our starters, we asked how long the food would be we had no response! We asked a different waiter the same question 20 minutes later again no response! We then asked the waitress, who I believe was part of the management yet again no response! 20 minutes later I asked the same waitress the same question again. She answered that she didn 't know what was going on!! Furthermore, she was laughing off the fact that we had now waited 1 hour and 40 minutes without even a starter.
