As frequent patrons of this Wetherspoons pub, we typically enjoy our meals. However, on recent visits, we have noticed that the tables are consistently sticky and dirty, not being cleaned between customers. We often have to clear used plates ourselves and have resorted to bringing wet wipes in my bag. Wetherspoons, this is not acceptable.

Not easy to find a table on a very wet day, but staff were most helful, clearing etc. We enjoyed our fish and chips and the rest. No complaints whatsoever. Staff were running round in circles. Credit to them all and especially the manager he'd really appreciate an extra pair of hands no doubt. Would have no hesitation of eating there again when in the area.

I’ll start with the negative feedback. This place needs a thorough clean. Where we were sitting was thick dust on the wooden ‘shelf’ , hasn’t been cleaned for months! The chairs are all stained. Tables still got the person before food stuck to it and very sticky. Doesn’t take much to keep things clean! Food was good and always is here. Hope the kitchen is cleaner than the rest of it! We come to The George regularly, the food is always pretty good and the value is excellent. However, for the last few months one part of the pub is full of fruit flies, which are landing on food and in drinks. Having raised this with the staff, they advised that they are aware of the issue, but have been unable to find a solution. I do think, given the amount of time that this has been an issue, that a chain as big as Wetherspoons would have resolved this by now.

During what appeared to be a managers meeting taking place in the middle of the restaurant area, the managers were shouting across the room at the staff in the middle of service, then one of the bar staff came out and swore at one of them and then the manager decided to respond by showing her middle finger to the member of staff. This was in front of 4 children at 2 different tables. Unprofessional is not the word. If that’s the example of professional standards that the managers set, no wonder the place is a no go area for many people past 7pm.

We used to frequent this restaurant regularly and it was always satisfactory. The food was typical Wetherspoons fare, offering good value, and the staff were pleasant. However, our recent visits have been disappointing. The tables were dirty and sticky, the chairs were worn and had holes in the fabric, and the meals were inconsistent in temperature - everything was hot except for the cold chips. Additionally, we noticed fruit flies buzzing around our food. Something has clearly changed for the worse. It is concerning that this once decent pub has deteriorated in quality. Where to start. This place is a typical spoons, except the manager is probably worse than the customers( who think it 's okay to start a brawl in the middle of service). He likes to impose himself and act lik God almighty but can 't handle criticism whatsoever. Furthermore he removes people from this place because they were getting picked on .. he offers no explanation. If you want to eat som where cheap get a Tesco meal deal and eat it at home, because this place is utterly woeful James is half okay on the front of things however when someone questions his actions he can 't handle it and removes you ... We have been coming to this restaurant for years and we especially enjoy the family walled courtyard at the back. There is also a section by the pub for smokers. However, we are confused as to why there is a seating area next to a public highway/footpath where dogs are not allowed, even though it is not technically on Wetherspoons property. The food and service are consistently better during the week compared to weekends. Unfortunately, we have had issues with our meals on the last couple of weekends and were made to feel like it was our fault. Sigh! As always with Wetherspoons, price compromises quality. The ale was fine and not as overly chilled as you often find in a Spoons. Service? Perfunctory would be the best way of describing the service. It was fine, but the staff appeared weary, unenthusiastic, almost dead on their feet; and it wasn't even 5pm. Food? My father was happy with his fish and chips (but he's 80+ and likes Spoons for the beer prices). My spicy chicken was not inspiring at all. The marinade was all in the surface, not actually IN the flesh of the chicken spicing was one dimensional; good spicing is layered, with spices, being added at different stages of the cooking.
