"On a recent trip to meet friends we decided to eat here I was less than impressed. The first member of staff who greeted us was very welcoming and friendly, the other was rude and obnoxious. Our orders were taken quickly and the drinks were bought out in good time, then the waiting began. The food took far too long. In that time we didn 't get asked if we wanted more drinks, my partner had to go and ask for service and for an update on the food. When the food arrived I asked for side plates, mine was dirty so I kindly asked for a clean one, the look I got from the member of staff was that of someone who had taken personal offense. The food was mediocre at a push. Oh and what is with the salad bar? We didn 't realise it was there until we left, is that for 'special ' guests? It would have been good to have know so we could chew on some salad during the wait for our food! I don 't mind food being late if we are kept informed and apologies are offered but that was not the case. It wasn 't even busy when we arrived so that wasn 't the reason the slow service."

"Ordered starters and waited nearly an hour (there was only a small group of us), one of our group complained and the starters appeared after 50 minutes of waiting. Food was ok but not fantastic. Starter plates were eventually removed and we waited nearly another hour for mains and took for us to complain again for those to come out. The waiters were rude and argued back at us and said ‘what do you expect we are busy’, another sat at the bar just laughing at us whilst plates were literally being shoved on to our table, one plate was placed on top of one my friends drink and left to balance there. Most of our food was cold. Rice turned up on cold plates and the waiter called me a liar when I explained my food was cold. Absolutely dreadful place but I was warned by many not to go there but I had already made the booking. PLEASE AVOID and go elsewhere. Let’s hope this place gets shutdown"

Go for the carrot cake always! "Had lunch at the Swallowtail with my partner and elderly mother. The view from the restaurant was lovely, looking out onto the yacht club and river Crouch. The staff were very friendly and extremely efficient. The food was fabulous. We had great starters and plumped for the sharing platters between the 3 of us (fisherman's platter and mixed chicken platter) the food was hot, fresh and very tasty. And although we all have great appetites we had more than enough delicious food. We did manage fabulous deserts. My mother is not too good on her feet but this was no problem as there is a lift to the first floor restaurant. We will return to try more of the menu and are happy to recommend"
