"My friends and I hadn’t met up for a while lockdown had got in the way so we decided on the Goa for our reunion dinner. One friend, who has digestive issues requested that her Vegetable Bhuna was cooked without garlic which was...done to her request and it was lovely! The other friend had a sag dhal which was yummy but I can’t ever fault my absolute favourite the Goan Green Chilli Chicken! It’s sublime not the prettiest looking but just the right heat and oozing with spice and flavour. We had rice and naan with our food and poppadums to start and a wonderful time was had by all. The Goa has continued to serve this village with initially takeaways and deliveries but has kept going throughout this pandemic. Well done to Naz and his team!"

"Had a lovely meal out this evening and amazing value on the Eat Out Help Out scheme combined with gourmet night. Felt a safe environment and staff all wore masks or shields. All very polite and pleasant and good service on a busy night. Food very good quality and very tasty. My only issue was that I did have to point out to them that desserts should be included in the 50% off scheme took two discussions to get this through to them, so I suspect they’ve been overcharging unnecessarily on desserts for previous customers to date. It sounded like they just hadn’t understood the scheme rules. Just hope they now understand properly and will adjust how they total up their bills going forward. It was only £3.50 for us so I wasn’t labouring the point for our benefit, more for everyone else going forward. It’s not as if the restaurant will lose out, they just add it to the amount they claim back. Cute little sweets!"

"Hello, I walked the Greater Ridgeway across England during August September. I arrived at the Chequers a bit before opening time. But the lovely landlady made me a cup of tea. After a long walk it was very welcoming. Once they opened at midday I was greeted by extremely friendly staff smiling faces and lots of help with my onward journey. I had bangers and mash for lunch and a pint of cider. I couldn't fault this place at all , it's a lovely old genuine British pub with very friendly staff and very nice hearty food."

"booked here for my mum and sister as my partner is local to the area and had told us lovely things (so had his family) We arrived on Monday, the place was empty, pub not open and noone around. My partner went inside to find someone to get a key to pay for the two nights. After we paid and got chatting to the lady behind the bar, she said the live and let live was too much for them and they were trying to sell it. When we got into the room, it was obvious that the place hadn 't recieved a clean the whole lockdown, which you would imagine would have been done? Cobwebs on appliances, fridge was turned on by the gentleman who arrived 5 mins after we got the key, with a TV (no remote). the electric was turned off to the room and half the lights didn 't work. The doors, wardrobe and window had been primered but not painted, the towel stand in the bathroom was so rusty, it was unstable, there was soap marks (from previous lodgers) up the walls in the bathroom, the complimentary soaps, shampoo etc were already opened and half used. No curtains up in the room, but curtian pole was there, full of cobwebs and coat hangers. Also dead flies rolled up in the blinds. Light switches were brown. My mother and sister went out to buy anti-bacterial wipes to clean (as when they went to find someone, the place was empty, not a person in sight, also noone answering the phone in the pub) Lamp shades had stains on them and the bed sheets had mould spots on them and the bathroom ceiling was mouldy too. There was other peoples items in the bedside tables everything was covered in a good thick layer of dust! We paid for bed and breakfast on the understanding that the guests would get a choice of either a continental breakfast or a full English, its a good job we ere visiting family or they would have starved in their room! Not a soul to be seen the whole 2 night and 3 days they stayed. We have rung the company who we have booked with and the live and let live have refused to speak to us, acknowledge our issues or issue a refund. This is obviously not acceptable and I hope for the pubs sake that someone manages to buy this and turn it back into the beautiful place that my partner his family remember! The place has great potential its a shame to see it get such a bad reputation! £170 is alot to pay for a dirty room. Do not be fooled by the pictures on the booking sights! They are from 2012 when the previous owners had the pub!!"

"We had an impromptu Saturday lunch with friends at this lovely old village pub. The risotto was delicious and plentiful, and our dog Charlie enjoyed a plain chicken breast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the plates were chipped, the table cloths had food remnants, and the women's toilet was a bit dirty. Despite this, the dessert was a big treat. I would come back again and try something different next time, hoping for better attention to cleaning and upkeep."
