"I took my mum and two daughters to Tortworth Court for afternoon tea on December 8th to celebrate my mum's 90th birthday. I had hoped it would be a special treat, but we were disappointed with the experience. After being seated, we had to wait a long time for our order to be taken and for our food to be prepared. The tea that was served was not up to standard - there were no homemade cakes, only bite-sized party food similar to what you would find at a supermarket, and soggy microwave sausage rolls. The finger sandwiches were made with sliced Kingsmill bread, processed cheese, and processed turkey, and were not very tasty. We had to ask for a cup to go with the pot of tea that was brought to our table. We also had to use the same plates for our scones as we had used for the sandwiches. When I asked for butter instead of jam and cream, I was given a packet of sunflower spread. The staff seemed inexperienced and there was no acknowledgment or mention of my mum's special day. Overall, the experience was disappointing and not worth the £135 that we paid. It was not what I would have expected from Tortworth Court."

Happy with our choices: salt and pepper squid, lamb, pork and cheesecake. Service was good and good was cooked well.

We had dinner the evening we arrived, the food was very basic. It was not bad but it did not leave me wanting more. The drinks were good.

We only ate once in the restrauant as the menu stayed the same throughout our stay. There were too many flies buzzing around our table which was very irritating and spoilt the meal

The bar area is the old library and the juxtaposition of modern and more traditional decor is great.Well thought out seating and a great bar area and a large choice of gin and other spirits is thoroughly enjoyable. Voir le carte

We ate here whilst staying at the hotel. There is no doubt they are trying to be Dining experience but are not quite there. Service was quite poor, not very attentive at all. Starters were very average. I had pork for main, my partner had lamb, both were cooked quite nicely.

Limited but adequate menu, food nicely presented and pleasant. Tables very close together. Service slow, took over 2 hours for a 2 course meal. A number of large groups were dining which were wedding guests including quite a number of exuberant young children. Not the romantic evening we were hoping for

Stayed at the hotel here, so had dinner reservations for 8:45. Very popular. Great selection of gluten free too which was a great sign for my girlfriend. Blade of beef for mains was delicious. Service appalling, took 45 mins for someone to clear our plates after we’d finished, and even then we had to ask. Staff more interested in chit chat than serving. Getting the bill we had to ask too. Pricey food is good and worth the price but service should reflect that too. Voir le carte

Visited here with friends, the setting is lovely and the Christmas decor is tasteful. The food was good but 5he confit of duck is basically two deep fried rice balls with a small bit of ground duck, not what you imagine and not that great .Blade of beef slow cooked was tender, sadly the service was slow and the waiters sometimes a little hard to understand ,Lighting is low so a bit difficult to read the menu and tables are close together .The venue is romantic and grand which compensatesProsecco at £40 a bottle is a rip off though

Went here on the evening of 3/4/2020Food was fantastic, I had the Broccoli and Stilton soup to start, it was very tasty. For main. I chose the beef. It was beautiful! My partner has a Scallops to start, these were seasoned well and nicely cooked, he then had the duck for his main and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is busy but it’s well managed. One rude waiter, who unfortunately we didn’t get his name. The rest of the staff are great though. They seem to work all hours under the sun as they’re there for the breakfast shift too. For the hours they seem to work, they’re doing a great job!

"Went for an impromptu meal with her indoors, as this was a local pub we've not been in for a long time we thought will pop in. Greeted by an over enthusiastic bar person who was dragging out the empties from the night before, ordered a couple of drinks and we sat down with the menu's, after perusing the menu we were ready to order, at the same time we were ready a regular couple walked in and sat at there regular table and oredered there regular meal, but the regular gentleman actually wanted an extra sausage with his sausage and chips, well! The kerfuffle this caused was astronomical, this conversation went on for Many many minutes, my wife and I was desperately trying to catch her attention to have another drink, eventually my wife went to the bar and waited, we got served eventually. Then our food came out of the kitchen, we went for the light bites as we were in a snacky mood, Chicken strips Mozzarella bites Chips with curry sauce and nachos. We never got the nachos as there was no guacamole BTW Chips came out which were actually fries, covered in this sauce, gross, then we had 3 chicken strips with no garnish £4.95 £1.63 each Then 4 mozzarella bites came out, no, nothing else just 4 mozzarella bites, £4.95 £1.24 each. So if you want have your pants pulled down and be robbed of your hard earned cash then this is the place to go, as for me and my wife we won't be. We did mention the poor quality and value for money but it was brushed under the dirty carpet and she was going to feed our comments back to the kitchen."

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
