"My husband and I have recently moved from the UK to Essen and we think we have found a gem in this restaurant and its staff. We had booked a table for an early dinner on a Saturday evening and were the restaurants first customers of the night. We were greeted warmly by the chef who once he realised our German was not exactly fluent, switched to almost perfect English. He asked if we had any dislikes or food allergies and when we confirmed we were happy to try anything, he asked if we would be happy with the chefs choices. This turned out to be an excellent idea. As soon as were seated our waiter brought us some fresh bread and herb butter ( delicious ) and recommended what turned out to be an excellent bottle of wine. In short the food was amazing. We started with bacon wrapped dates ( Oh my goodness !!! ) and were then served a further 6 dishes, ranging from squid and octopus to marinated lamb. The dishes were served at a perfect pace so you never felt rushed or had to wait for too long before the next delicious surprise. If I am honest I would never have chosen any of the dishes myself from the menu ( squid stuffed with parmesan - who'd of thought ? ) but am so glad I had the opportunity to sample these unusual and extremely well prepared dishes. In summary I think this Tapas restaurant wouldn't suit you if you are looking for traditional Spanish Tapas but if you are looking for a foodie adventure, enjoy great tastes and textures from around the world then Bliss is for you and it really does live up to its name ! The staff were amazing and if I had any criticism it was that we never saw a menu and therefore had no idea of the prices - a little disconcerting but it turned out we needn't have worried. It was a very reasonable price for the quality and service provided. We most certainly will be back !!"

"My wife and I visited this place because being of limited German vocabulary, we were pleased to find that the menu contained dishes with Japanese names e.g. ramen, don, teriyaki, etc. This made ordering our food less of a challenge. Certainly, the atmosphere was busy and lively and the decor is the usual eclectic mix of Far-East paraphernalia that will just be all the same to the untrained eye. But actually it is a mishmash of several cultures just like the menu, so while it is mostly a Japanese-based menu, there were things that were Thai, Chinese and Korean. There were no "fusion" dishes which I always find disappointing so this was definitely a bonus. The other good thing about this place was that the portions for the noodle soups that we ordered were very large. Certainly, we were hungry at the time, but already had a couple of starters as well, the noodle soups were quite tough to finish off as well. They were also steaming hot and full of flavour. However, what is let down by this place, was actually how "not Japanese" the dishes were that we ordered. I ordered the agadashi tofu and it was garnished with lots of red chilli, and that is certainly not what this dish is about, since it is supposed to be a light, mild dish. We also ordered the pork satay which was fine. For our noodle soups I ordered the Tori Ramen and my wife had the Chasui Udon. First off, we did eat it all, but I think we were both surprised at how they did not look like what we were expecting. As with the agadashi tofu, for some reason, there was a desire to cover them with chopped red chilli. But these dishes were not highlighted as being spicy. Secondly, the meats with our dishes were certainly not done in a Japanese fashion. I had expected the chicken to be something similar to a teriyaki, and the chasui (pork) we expected to look like slices of rolled meat. Instead, in both cases, we simply had lots of slices of well-marinaded meat. They did taste good, but I think we had different hopes. In summary, the food was good for an Asian style restaurant, but not authentic considering their menu."

"I was attracted to this restaurant because of the obvious "all you can eat" meal that was on offer and so I did have the slight thought of what was the catch. Without doubt, the restaurant looked nice, the menu had great variety, and the staff were friendly. There was even one particular pleasant waitress who was kind enough to persevere in conversing with us in English since being the typically British, I tend not to learn other peoples' languages well or really at all. We received the gimmicky tablet computer where my wife and I were able to make our selections from the food menu, and once we had selected the 5 dishes each that we were allowed per round, we simple confirmed our order and wait for it to be served. The food is indeed tasty. All the hot dishes that we ordered arrived very promptly and you could tell they were fresh. So too was the sushi, but... I would have to concur with the other reviews that have been posted and that there was an extremely disproportionate amount of time when waiting for the sushi to arrive. The tablet computer actually shows you how much time you have been seated at your table. And so, just to break things down, our order could have been broken down to 2 rounds, both with hot dishes and some sushi in each round (and remember, the dishes in these places are small plates) and the timer on the tablet said 87 minutes before completion of our last order... The place was not too busy so really it was inexcusable to have to wait so long when in other Japanese restaurants where if I had ordered the same dishes in an a la carte menu, we would would have normally been done within an hour.If the restaurant can just get the timing right, this place would be absolutely superb. However, as the customers who come in are usually going to care most about the food than anything else, if it comes too late, even if it does not matter that it is cold, then you are going to have disgruntled customers. We were not disgruntled when we left, but sadly, it is not a place I could really recommend at the moment."

"the cookie jar is a small caffe in a side street of the rüttenscheider street in Essen-Rüttenscheid. from the location in the center rüttenscheids quite well. as a note: to find a parking place there is sometimes a good thing :)the caffe was opened according to its own statement at the beginning of 2017 by two sisters, who wanted to make their hobby call, because they like cupcakes and want to share this with everyone. We were there for a cupcake course. These courses are usually held on Saturdays mornings. Moreover, there is probably the possibility to book courses for different types of courses - e.g. for youngsters, children's birthdays etc. (choice of the owner to get for children's birthdays: "so make all the hardy the big events"). according to the owner of the caffe, these courses are designed for 8-10 persons. on this cursday were 20 people there. although 3 people have mercied and wanted to come back at another date, it was still too crowded. the owner knew about this problem already on the eve and unfortunately did nothing to make the best out of the situation (e.g. more cupcakes, equipment accordingly to provide or simply cancel people or at least not to withdraw the cancellations). during the course, each group produced two frostings (fresh cheese and butter cream) and a dough for muffins. Finally, the muffins, which were prepared on the day before, were decorated. The muffins are made with dinkeletal flour, which makes them harder and less fluffy, but this is a taste. butter cream is also not made from butter, but from margarine, because the owner doesn't like the butter taste.Only decorating with the cream there was freeze bag with hole - there was (on demand) to decorate 4 tulle, which were broken. for further decoration, however, there was a large selection of sugar sprouts and cookies. the dough made by the cursors was baked - but to sell it later as own products spent in the load. the teig kneading wore gloves, but for hygienic and above all qualitative reasons at least very questionable. especially a pity for the cursors, because too little muffins were there and then not the sorts that the groups had chosen. Summary of the cupcake course: much too many people, too little space, not enough equipment, only 1-3 muffins per person. the owner was not very well prepared, which she founded with "individual, puffed and different". at times she also carried her bad laune strong outwards. the floor in the load was extremely dirty and as a whole the owner's statement was not completely finished or in rebuild, since they are "first since januar" in the load (pronounced: for 6 months.) concluded: the cursor was with 25€ per person via a voucher portal (normal price is twice as high) much, much, much too expensive.I can unfortunately not recommend the cafe quietly.PS: regarding the overbooking of the course portal, the owner blamed all of them. can be true, of course, but she hasn't done any great attempts to get everything really good. this date was also the second date we had booked with her. the first date was canceled 3 days earlier with the foundation "we are on holiday." planning and organizational skills I ask from the experiences so sometimes.PPS: maybe the courses run at other days or the regular business is better."
