"Firstly it’s important to say I’m disappointed that I’ve had to write this review, as I’ve had numerous excellent visits here and still rate them as my favourite tasting burger around! Why then the 2 star review and a review that replaces my previous 5 star review? Visited with friends expecting the food to be up to its usual high standards. After a few rounds of drinks and nearly £100 spent we ordered our meals. My friend and his g/f ordered their food first (identical to what we ordered . Ours arrived a good ten minutes before theirs leaving us hanging about waiting so we could all eat together. Having poured out my chips I noted I had half of everyone else (6 and one black one! . Onion rings on both of ours were also cremated. Rather than make a fuss in front of friends I chose to politely speak to a young gentleman at the bar. I politely expressed my disappointment at such a meagre portion for £10.50 and the fact I’d received half of all of my fellow diners (and much less than previous visits . He apologised, saying he would bring out some more. 5 minutes later he came out to say that was a standard portion and I wouldn’t be getting anymore. That’s great if my fellow guests hadn’t ordered the same dish and received double what I had, with all their chip pots full! Despite being embarrassed I remained polite but stated I wasn’t impressed and not at all happy about it all and couldn’t promise I wouldn’t be writing a review. A young woman came out from the kitchen slagging me off to her colleagues saying “I don’t care, he can do what he wants!”. In the interests of courtesy to my friends I wasn’t going to bite! What is puzzling is the fact that the burger comes swamped with cheese (always has done . Cost of cheese clearly outweighs the cost of a handful of chips! Rather than give me a few extra chips to match my guests portions or to simply shut me up the rude lady chose to abuse me to her colleagues instead! The complete lack of customer service and disregard for how much we had spent with you as a business was appalling and cost you the extra £150 we spent on other food and drink elsewhere! Was it really worth standing your ground over what must be pennies? I attach pics of two of our previous visits where the normal portion of chips is clearly shown, compared to the insult that was served to me on the day! As noted on most negative reviews I appreciate this might generate a sarcastic response. Most of these responses say “had we been made aware at the time, we would have made efforts to resolve” I can categorically say zero effort was made to try and resolve the complaint. No one even had the courtesy to come and speak with me other than the male staff member who was apologetic throughout, seemingly embarrassed having agreed how few chips had been served. I certainly left resenting spending so much with you as well as supporting your business many times before. I fully appreciate at times things go wrong and a certain situation totally unrelated to me or my complaint may have influenced how I was treated at that point in time. All I can say is that having been polite throughout I neither deserved it or appreciated it All for the sake of a few chips!"

"I was driving through and came about this place which has such beautiful surroundings, so, my wife and I decided to stop and check it out before we moved on to Bath. The first thing I did was to enter the pub to register our car's registration number (5 minutes upon arrival), as the signs indicated. This information was everywhere very hard to miss, so I used one of the tablet's (one is by the till the other one is located on the right hand side by the snooker table) that was provided by the establishment. Then we decided to have lunch here, the food wasn't anything special but just okay, perhaps it's because it was a weekday. We ate, played some snooker/pool and continued with our journey to Bath. A week later I received a PCN notice charge, saying that I didn't register my car, and therefore had to pay a penalty of £60 (if I paid straight away) or £100 if I wanted to appeal. Obviously I'm appealing because I did exactly what was asked of me (they only have a phone number to contact them but after calling a few times today, I had to leave voice mail hopefully they will call me back). Due to all this horrible scenario I absolutely won't be returning to this place. I can say this stop was definitely a very expensive one, and what a horrible birthday lunch it turned out to be. It's not fair at all, and keep in mind this can happen to anyone as well, so always take a photo of your tablet as well as the actual confirmation message of your registration after using it. Can the pub help me with this? I have 6 day's to respond to my appeal."
