"Me and my family had traveled here for something a bit different as this is not local to us. Unfortunately as we entered we walked past a table where a customer was correcting the girl server on her maths skills because her bill was wrong! Nobody greeted us when we stood by the till and servers were simply walking around us as if we were in the way, after a few minutes of this we had to go to the bar to get someone’s attention, don’t get me wrong this was around 17:30 and not that busy, there wasn’t one member of staff who appeared to be over 18 at all….. no exaggeration! We were shown to a table near the toilets , the wall next to us was covered in scrapes and missing paint in several places, the gents toilet door was filthy with hand marks, my wife had mentioned that one of the toilets in the ladies had a toilet seat fitted that was actually too small! This pub is tired and grubby and needs sorting out…. As if all this was bad enough (we did discuss leaving at this point) we were left having to go back to the bar after being sat down for 10mins to see if we could order a drink and some food, the bartender did come to the table and took our order and the food did follow quite quickly afterwards! It’s a real shame really, the staff were so young and I think lacked some direction! No one came to ask if the food was ok etc ! Our food was ok but the overall experience was very disappointing"

"So we found this place due to their incredible freakshakes on Instagram Location It's on the outskirts of the centre in a small arcade of shops. We found parking on the road fairly easy but can imagine that parking could be an issue. I would say overall it was easy to find and was located in a nice area. Interior This place is loved. It is very clear that the team take pride in their workspace. I found the cafe to be clean and the batista area is organised and often cleaned during the day. The decor is lovely and the toilets were well kept. The sign behind the counter is a very nice piece of interior design. Overall no complaints here Service Nice to see a small cafe with a healthy number of staff. I think they get very busy as there was a small army ready to serve. I found all interactions to be pleasant. I wouldn't say they went above and beyond but then again with our order of a freakshakes only it would have been strange for them to do anything which stood out at extraordinary. Food/drink We had the freakshake of the week which was Cadbury. Not going to lie, it was pure sugar and very indulgent. Just brilliant!! I will add that all the real food that they were serving to others looked great (even the toast and jam looked solid Price So I feel that this place is on the upper side of value, they are pushing it in terms of price but to be honest I would pay it again as the whole experience felt that little bit nicer than the ordinary cafe scene. What's an extra £1 or 2 for somewhere that you enjoy spending an hour or so! Overall If I lived closer I would pay this place a regular visit. I think it's a little gem in Bristols cafe scene."

"I want to start by saying I don't usually give reviews but... Myself and a friend booked Thornbury Castle afternoon tea £35 per head. Fairly costly but justifiable as the hotel surroundings are beautiful. The waitresses service was good. The cakes scones were delicious the tea selection was varied. However, we were very disappointed when served sandwiches which were not quite as fresh as one would expect. After a polite word with our waitress, they were replaced and we were informed chef had ‘just made them for us’. I'm afraid this was clearly not the case as they were still quite dry on one side cold which suggested Chef had not ‘just made them’ and they were from the original batch which was stored in the fridge. When this was pointed out, our waitress explained the bread is stored in the fridge. She then spoke to chef who said the sandwiches were ok. I've had several stays at this beautiful hotel, been for afternoon tea multiple times, had many family meals there including my 50 birthday lunch and I've never had reason to complain but I'm afraid someone needs to have a word with Chef as it is NOT ok to serve bread which has started to dry out. As my friend pointed out, Chef was not eating the sandwiches, we were they certainly were not fresh. Our bill came to £77 £7 was an added service charge which, under the circumstances, I felt needed to be deducted."
