"The best restaurant in Rochdale/Manchester area. We’ve eaten many times here and it’s always incredible but I never leave a review so I will now… Friend booked on the day for Sunday lunch and happily accommodated us even when we had more numbers and another...guest came later on. I love coming here for many reasons… -Friendly, kind and attentive staff which comes directly from top with Rachel; -Brilliant range of drinks on bar; -Fresh beautiful tasty food on a extensive menu; -Atmosphere is warm, ambient and homely; -Very good value for money; -Parking onsite. We all had Sunday lunch. I had the 2 courses for £16 veg soup and cheese pie with all trimmings. I had to ask because Im annoying if the soup was home made, it was and it was one of the best soups Ive had. I make my own and my dads a chef so it was up there at the top, the bread was brilliant too. My friend had garlic mushrooms again brilliant! Our mains came (other two got chicken ham) and my cheese pie came with all sides, potatoes, mash, cauliflower cheese etc was brilliant and all veg was delicious! I asked for veg gravy which they gave in seconds and the service is literally incredible. I can not fault it and I am hard to please. Ive had the dessert in the past and I would of today but I was so full. The eton mess is stunning and delicious! Thankyou Rachel Team for such a wonderful evening tonight and many other nights. You deserve all the success in the world!"

"We’ve had quite a few orders from here over the years which were always outstanding. I knew there were new owners and had seen posts assuring customers that nothing would change, but the experience we had recently was that much of a shambles I definitely will never be ordering from here again. Ordered on the app around 6pm, order was confirmed and it stated 7-7.15pm for delivery. 7pm passed, then 7.15pm passed. So did 7.30pm and 7.45pm and there was still no order having placed the order coming up to 2 hours prior. I rang to ask how much longer we could expect to wait to be told “it was sent ages ago”…to which she quickly backtracked and said “not ages, maybe 10 minutes”. I gave it another 5 minutes and still no order (we live 5 mins from here). I rang back and it didn’t bode well that the lady on the phone had to actually clarify which one was our missing delivery. She then said she didn’t know where our order was, because it wasn’t there so it must have gone out for delivery. I said so that means it had been out for delivery for nearly 20 mins at this point, and she then wasn’t even sure if it had actually even gone out for delivery. I called back for a third time and told them I was cancelling my order, to be told I couldn’t, because it was out for delivery. I said I wouldn’t be accepting the order having been told over 25 minutes ago now that it was being delivered. If we are 5 minutes away, where had it been for 20 minutes? A man took over the phone call who just kept telling me he’d remake it and resend it…I declined as we’d now been waiting over 2 hours already. The order then actually turned up at the door about 5 minutes after I’d told them I’d cancelled it. I refused to accept the delivery so the JustEat driver packed it all back up and went on his merry way after agreeing he’d have done the same. Don’t know if they had taken on too many orders or are just plain incompetent, but if you give a time for a delivery slot and aren’t able to meet that time at least have the courtesy to call. Don’t just add another hour on to the delivery time then lie saying the order has already been sent!"

"Our first visit was a Sunday, just a week after their opening. We enjoyed a fantastic roast meal. We decided to sit in the adult-only area since it can get quite loud with children around. When we arrived at 11:30 AM, the place was just beginning to fill up; however, within about 15 minutes, it was bustling. We ordered a large Sunday roast with beef and a burger, and our meals arrived quickly, accompanied by warm smiles. My plate was enormous, piled high with tender roast beef, a crispy Yorkshire pudding, delicious roasted potatoes, and a selection of vegetables (cauliflower, carrots, and green beans). Everything was flavorful, well-prepared, and utterly satisfying. My companion devoured a massive burger with great enthusiasm, and our total bill with two drinks came to just over £20. On our second visit, also on a Sunday, we wanted to treat our guests. I ordered the Bombay Bad Boy burger, topped with lamb and mint bhaji, while my friend opted for a mild burger (I chose the wild option!). Once again, our meals came out with minimal wait time, were well cooked, and bursting with flavor. The total for four people was under £40. Our third visit was on a Friday night, where we reserved a table for six. Unfortunately, the only available seating was in the children's area, which was quite chaotic! The restaurant was extremely busy, and navigating around the little ones was a challenge. Our food took about an hour to arrive; we received an apology along the way, and I ended up with a sirloin instead of the rump steak I had ordered. Nevertheless, the steak was delicious. We shared a mixed grill, which included a massive chicken skewer with cola chipotle sauce, a fabulous cheesecake (a must-try), and the beloved mink burger, along with the steaks, which were well-cooked and juicy. Overall, The Hornet is a great spot if you’re looking for unpretentious, tasty food at incredibly reasonable prices, all served in a friendly and casual atmosphere. What are our plans for this weekend?"
