"Regularly come in for drinks at the bar, meal once a month. Never had any issues with the restaurant at all but last night the bar service and attitude was atrocious. All going well, not many in as per usual, (and there seems to be little focus on improving this). At 9pm the music went off. At this point there were 5 people in, two of which had only just arrived for drinks. The atmosphere just evaporated with one bar tender sitting down having finished his shift, staring at everyone as though we were now impinging on his time. When we asked why the music had gone off we were told the system was broken and he was using his own phone, and now he’d finished work that was that. I’d like to say this information was delivered nicely but it wasn’t. The two people who’d just arrived mentioned how uncomfortable they felt too. The website states the bar is open until midnight but at 9:05 it was clear we had to leave. We understood the kitchen had closed, absolutely no issues with that, but there is little in the way of welcome or customer focus downstairs. As an aside, a friend had joined us earlier but left after one pint (can’t remember the name of it but had only been added that day) and he said it was clear no one knows how to look after cask/real as it had the pungent aroma of line cleaner to it. If they want to keep wet sales they need to up their game, simple requests were met with a sigh and a roll of the eye. A real shame and it soured our night."

"My first visit to the Sir Winston Churchill Harvester, has been outstanding. From the minute you walk in, you are greeted by attentive staff (Noriel and Danielle) even when their busy! Outstanding Efforts and customer care were made by Noriel, a member of staff whom is very efficient and caring towards my mum having severe walking difficulties; finding a suitable booth near the disabled toilet. Throughout the entire meal, Noriel was very helpful and nothing was too much! Given we had just arrived from Christie’s hospital both hungry and tired it was a very enjoyable meal coupled with excellent customer care. The food was excellent. Mum had fish and mash and the rest of the party had sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection! Richard the Manager also provided a free dessert as it was a birthday occasion the chocolate fudge cake was delicious! An outstanding evening. Since my recent first visit, we are now regular visitors. Jenny the Manager provides excellent customer care and has dealt with any issues swiftly and effectively. Dale and Richard also part of the management team, have both been making sure that our seating requirements are met and my disabled mum is comfortable and the food has met her dietary requirements. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they are all lovely staff! Every visitor has been consistent, enjoyable and is worth the visit. Unfortunately this is not the case with Derby Pool Harvester in New Brighton which could learn from the management of the Sir Winston Churchill in Rochdale. Their service levels, standard of food and customer care and efficiency is not on par with the Sir Winston Churchill Harvester in Rochdale. Well done, Sir Winston Churchill Harvester, you are definitely my favourite Harvester so far!"

"Having eaten in The White House numerous times previously I decided for the 4th time to make a last minute booking to avail of the EOHO scheme . On the off chance I e-mailed a request for a booking for the same day (last Wed 19th) and got a timely reply from a Mr Marney confirming my table for 2 at 5.30pm.My partner and I arrived just before 5.30pm and joined a small queue waiting to be seated. I was impressed by the large blackboard in the entrance hall being used to highlight the Covid-19 rules and restrictions in such an artistic and clear manner (much better than all these cheap posters floating around). When we got inside, I was greeted by a lady who asked for my name. When she couldn 't find it on the list she asked me if i had booked and i said yes. She replied in that case you can take that table down by the mirror . We made our way down to that table but i felt that the lady was upset because she thought I had made it up about the booking. After settling in our seats for about 5 minutes i got up to go to the bar. I ordered a pint of cask bitter and a half of lager and was then told by the same lady to sit down and my drink order would be taken at the table. This again seemed a bit harsh and abrupt as the rules outside in the hall clearly stated You may order drinks at the bar .Anyway enough of the negatives. As soon as i sat back down again, the gentleman from behind the bar brought me the drinks I had ordered. A minute later we had our order taken. The starters arrived after about 10 minutes. I had the Chicken Liver Pate and my partner had the garlic mushrooms. The pate was probably the best pate I have ever had. So smooth and tasty it was unbelievable. My partner also enjoyed her garlic mushrooms. For mains, my partner had the Haddock with Cheese topping and I had the Gammon Steak. Both mains were ample portions but tasted fantastic. The gammon was cooked to perfections and served with both pineapple and egg. The haddock was well cooked and served with a lovely medley of fresh well cooked vegetables. All in all the good was excellent. I have availed quite a bit of the EOHO scheme and this was the best meal I have had. The service from the waiters and waitresses was excellent. Will return soon and hopefully get a better welcome......"
