"This cafe is located in a prime location and is dog-friendly with a beautiful view. The cakes are delicious, however, the burgers and chips were disappointing as they were too greasy. It seemed like they were cooked in old fat or oil, which made my companion feel sick and took a while to get rid of the unpleasant taste. It's a great spot for a hot drink and cake, but I would advise against ordering anything fried."

"We did go on a Saturday, and they were short staffed, but things seemed a bit chaotic. Food was ordered and either you were given a buzzer to collect food or you proceeded on to the hot drinks and till. If you didn't have a buzzer your food was served out when there was a gap in orders which meant that some were sitting out for a few minutes getting cold before the person at the till had to go and get it as you got there to pay. Ours wasn't as warm as it could have been. We use several Dobbies, so know what to expect. We had macaroni cheese. I did think the food portions were smaller than our local and the bread wasn't very crispy. Not great value compared to other visits. Plenty of seating in the cafe and car parking is shared with Tesco. Didn't really use the garden centre, but it seemed smaller than our local."

"Arrived for Sunday lunch a little early and we were directed to the bar to have a drink until our table was ready.2 gents already at the bar waiting to be served. 1 person behind the bar still setting up the area to be able to serve, no ice , no nozzles on the pumps and then the till/card machine wasn’t working properly. After waiting almost waiting 20 mins for drinks, we gave up and went through to the dining area. We explained what had happened to who we believe was the head waitress. She apologised and said that should not have happened and went and got us our drinks herself which were given complimentary. We chose from the menu and both opted for the soup as a starter. When the soup came I had to ask for soup spoons as they weren’t on the table or brought with the soup. If you have soup on the menu the tables should be set up accordingly they can be easily removed if not needed. Soup was ok but there was a bit too much salt in for my liking.The bowls were removed when we had finished and we were both looking forward to our roasts. After half an hour we still had not received our mains, bearing in mind people who had come in after us and had starters had been given their mains and were almost finished. I am never usually one to say anything, but on this occasion I did. For whatever reason our main had been overlooked and it came out within a few minutes of having to ask.The presentation of the meal was not great everything was piled on top of each other with a Yorkshire pudding on the very top. The meat was lovely, I had Roast Pork and my husband the beef, but the rest of it was mediocre. The hotel it self looked lovely with nice surroundings looking out on to the golf course. For a hotel the has a grand sounding name the meal and service we received was anything but grand, with the exception of the head waitress who tried to rectify things as best she could."

"We walked into the cafe and saw a sign saying wait here to be seated , so we did. Eventually a waitress walked past carrying drinks for another customer on her way back she looked at us as if we were mad for standing by the sign, she asked what we wanted, I replied by saying that the sign says to wait her to be seated. She explained that the cafe was for eating and the lounge was for tea and cake. At this point we hadn 't seen a menu so I replied by saying I didn 't know if I wanted to eat or not! She handed me a drinks menu and told us to sit on a sofa and to let her know what we decided then she would try to find us a table (in a near empty cafe! After waiting for her to come back for over 10 minutes, I went to the bar to ask for assistance. The lady behind the bar made herself very busy avoiding and ignoring me. After waiting there for a further 5 minutes, my husband lost his patience so we just left. If this is the service we received before we were even seated, we didn 't hold much hope for the quality of service once seated. We decided to take our custom elsewhere and will not bother to return."

"I was not pleased with my experience at this restaurant. The cake we ordered was very dry and came in a small portion with a blob of yogurt. The drinks were served in paper cups, which was disappointing since this is not a takeout establishment. The total cost for two small pieces of cake and two coffees was £14.95. The setting was lovely, but unfortunately, I do not plan on returning."

The Garden

"We ate at Garden Brasserie on the final night of our holiday in Norfolk. The restaurant is at the back of the Knights Hill hotel in a small section with views on to the garden. The decor is a little bit dated however it does feel like quite a traditional restaurant so in some ways suits its character. We were shown to our table by attentive staff who looked after us well during our meal. We were offered bread once we had ordered which was a nice touch, the number of restaurants that offer complimentary nibbles or bread is sadly very few and far between now. To start I had the mussels which were lovely, huge juicy mussels in a pot of rich white wine and garlic sauce. The mussels were a little bit gritty however the flavours were excellent and it wasn't enough to put me off. For my main course I had the sea bass which was cooked perfectly, melt in the mouth fish with crispy skin and plenty of seasoning. This was served with some lovely tenderstem broccoli, pureed butternut squash and fondant potato, all of which were excellent and made the dish actually quite a hearty meal. For desert we shared the chocolate brownie which was melt in the mouth and gorgeously chocolatey. The decor could do with an overhaul in Garden Brasserie but the food and service are excellent and more than make up for it. A lovely meal to end our holiday with."

"We spent time here recently in one of the cabins attached to the main building with our dogs. The room was clean but tiny and dark and the bathroom smelt musty. It was badly in need of an update I can’t imagine when it was last done. The beds were uncomfortable. The road was noisy constant traffic including lorries which kept is awake most of the night. It was good to have a small grassy area at the back to take our dogs for a wee. Lots of tea coffee and toiletries provided which was nice and most of the staff were very friendly. Due to my husband being taken ill we had to stay an extra night, we were charged over £90 for this which I thought expensive compared to what we had paid for the rest of our stay. Whilst packing to leave one of the dogs pushed a biscuit under the bed. I put my hand under to get it but couldn’t reach it so I got a wire coat hanger from the cupboard to get it out. I was shocked to see an unwrapped razor blade appearing. Luckily I hadn’t sliced my fingers. I took it to the reception when I checked out and gave it to the man there. He just looked at it and mumbled something about workman. I didn’t get an apology or a show of any concern. I felt he was very rude. We were not happy with our accommodation and won’t be going back."

"We had breakfast here and ordered a Full English that cost us £10.50 each!! It comprised of a small slice of toast, 1 sausage, 1 egg, 1 mushroom, some really anemic looking beans, and 2 rashers of bacon. For the price, it was a very small portion. You could taste that they were the cheapest of the cheap sausage and bacon that were used, and cheap beans aswell.. so the price isn 't really justified anywhere. We also ordered a glass of orange juice for something silly like £2.50. It was again, the cheapest of the cheap orange juice from concentrate so was extremely acidic and hard to enjoy. I think for the prices charged, they should be using better quality food or increasing the portion size a bit. I 've never paid so much for such a shocking breakfast. The staff were friendly though!"

"Well where to start it's all amazing booked a table at the last minute for dinner,the hotel is stunning from the moment you arrive the staff are so helpful and polite,we was seated by the lovley waitress and served our drinks in a beautiful restaurant and for such a stunning place you would imagine the food is going to cost a fortune but Aw no its amazing our starter was lovley n then came our main I had the duck my husband had the pork fillet and omg it was divine to look at and to taste,if we return to Kings Lynn we will most definitely be coming back here for dinner thank u to the amazing staff and o course the chef xx"

"Wimpy used to be a big thing when I was a kid. Then Burger King, an American company bought up the chain and turned most of them into Burger King outlets in the 80s selling tasteless 'patties ' in equally tasteless 'buns ' served up in a soggy wrapper. I was worried this Wimpy had gone Burger King style but I was pleasantly surprised. Gave up on McDonalds and Burger King years ago with their vile, tasteless offerings. A joke. And was amused when one reviewer said that as soon as he had arrived in Lynn he headed for Burger King! Why? Wimpy is what it is. It ain 't haute cuisine but it 's honest. My wife had a chicken burger and I had a straightforward burger. Good service and served at your table at a quid or so more than the soggy rubbish that McDonalds or Burger King provide. Was going to give a four star simply on the basis that the food isn 't five star but that 'd be the mark of of a snob the staff are really good and the food is perfectly good I will be back and good luck to Wimpy with burgers that come in crispy buns and fries that you can actually taste. Unlike the pallid offerings that some people seem to prefer from McDonalds or Burger King."

"Up until covid I enjoyed going to Pizza Hut, just been to pizza hut in kings Lyn probably the first time I’ve visited in a couple of years Whilst the actual restaurant seemed clean and tidy , I can safely say the pepperoni feast pizza I had , was probably the worse culinary experience of my 55 years. I asked for sweet corn and mushrooms on the pizza as extra, I counted 18 sweetcorn kernels and 13 slices of mushroom which had been added to an 11” pizza, terrible value at an extra £3.00 on the price. The pizza had been over cooked and had very little cheese on it and on a 11” pepperoni pizza , only 12 small slices of pepperoni which amounted to 2 per pizza slice Yep I can understand companies need to make profit but surely this was taking things to far , much to far !, as they are not cheap pizzas I will never return to any Pizza Hut"

"This is no ordinary café, not ordinary for King's Lynn anyway. Bright and colourful, with modern art, all over the walls, furniture, the carpet, the bathroom... Well... You'll just have to visit to see but if you have children that are being potty trained..! The space is well utilised with dining and lounging furniture and it's inviting and welcoming for children; drawing on the walls is a must here. But to top all of that is the food. The menu is unlike anything in this town: Fresh, Vibrant, Seasoned well with aromatic spices (not spicy unless that's how you want it), full of taste and there is a fantastic vegan option as well as meat lovers option. The variety and colours and the smell is incredible. Jerk chicken, falafels, plantain, okra... You just don't get tastes like this here. Flatbreads with an array of textures, homemade hummus, and vegan, gluten free and sugar free brownies and blondies! The café is run by a local family who are not from King's Lynn originally but now live here and have definitely made their mark on this historic town"

"My wife and I stopped here the night of a friend's wedding reception at the pub across the road. As soon as we walked up to the building (an amazing exterior in itself we were greeted by the owners and some locals doing a bit...of DIY outside. Everyone was so friendly and happy to chat to us! The interior of the building is unexplainable, you have to see it to believe it! Quirky and eclectic just doesn't do it justice, wow! We were shown to our room which was again amazing and just what we needed for a quick afternoon nap to sleep off the hangover! The owners were so helpful and helped us out with anything and everything! To top it off we awoke from our nap to find one of the dogs sleeping outside our room which just made everything even more homely (we have 2 dogs ourselves). The dogs are really friendly and love a good scratch! Off we went to the reception across the green, returning early the next morning it was a treat to return to such a lovely room with a gorgeous bed!! The next morning obviously feeling a bit fragile we ventured downstairs for some breakfast. There wasn't really a menu, the chef/owner basically just said he could Cook whatever we wanted! This was the perfect way to start the recovery from the night before and the breakfast was gorgeous! After getting our bags together we had a wander around the antiques shop next door which was an absolute treasure trove in itself! An incredible place with friendly and welcoming staff. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Will definitely return!"

"We have been here many times and have never been disappointed and last night was no exception. We meet with friends regularly and try different restaurants locally, this time I suggested Novus and they were blown away by the whole experience. Due to it being the first night back after half term, we were the only diners in the restaurant however this did not impinge on the quality or quantity of our food. The bread was cooked to perfection . My starter was up there for one of the best I’ve ever had. Bubble and squeak with a slice of crispy bacon with a perfect poached egg on top. Blade of beef so tender for mains. Lovely crème brûlée for afters. Friend had bavoir she said it was beautiful). OH had the doughnuts , scraped the plate and said he wanted more! "

"We had booked a table in the restaurant that night, and due to food allergies we had requested a dietry requirement menu on booking. On ordering, the waitress had a piece of reciept paper with dishes scribbled down that they could provide gluten and diary free, we chose the duck. 20minutes later the waitress returned to inform us that the duck infact wasnt df/gf and that we needed to order something else. ok, very good on informing us, but it took an hour in total from ordering to recieving the main meal. We would have been more sure if the restaurant provided a dietry requirement menu, with all the dishes ingredients listed. The food was adequate, although we had the feeling that due to the concert outside, more staff was allocated to the open bar selling alcohol to people on the street than in the main restaurant for staying residents. There were 2 waitresses catering the restaurant at the time, they looked rushed, we had to ask for water then reminded them after 10mins, they forgot to serve us refills on drinks, but when the bill came we were still charged for the refils, as well as being charged for the original Duck order that needed to be changed."

"Its 9.30pm on Sunday and I feel very guilty about not leaving more of my Sunday lunch today behind on the plate. The 2 slabs of slow roast pork shoulder with roast potatoes, cauliflower, other veg and mash etc absolutely totally delicious. Probably nicest one for years and years. Best was the gravy and the crispy bits of crackling......... Before I knew what had happened I had wolfed most of it down. Too stuffed so had to pass on dinner tonight will probably not manage breakfast tomorrow. I will prepare myself next time by avoiding breakfast so i can do it justice. Excellent service under the watchful eye of the owner. Excellent value. Really impressed. Not well marked we only walked in by accident. Well done guys! Off to the gym for me."

"I recently went to this restaurant for takeout and was pleasantly surprised by how quickly my order was prepared, yet still tasted fantastic. I tried the delicious pasta and the amazing chicken pizza with pineapple and BBQ sauce. However, the sicilian pizza was a letdown as it was bland with minimal toppings. I'm looking forward to trying the dessert pizzas soon."

"Sainsbury’s restaurant Kings Lynn. After completing our shopping just after midday we thought a bit of lunch would be good so went upstairs and ordered fish and chips. Previous visits had been quite good and the battered fish and chips were a keen favourite for us and others. When our two meals arrived a lot sooner than usual the meal looked very uninteresting with what appeared to be a flat triangular portion of fish and I think oven-cooked chips with the standard portion of peas. It look as though the fish had been oven-cooked also and was tasteless. We persevered through the meal adding a large portion of tartar sauce to provide some degree of flavour. The recipe appears to have changed dramatically and I believe providing drab oven baked fish rather than deep-fried, probably healthier but certainly not tastier. Very disappointed, why change a winning dish? Possibly more convenient and cheaper to prepare. Shan’t be returning."

"Really wish I’d read the reviews first ! Booked afternoon tea with champagne for a birthday treat for my husbands birthday. Nice welcome and swiftly seated to a beautifully set table. Savoury was simple and very basic. Scones were on the smaller side no fruit but cherry which. I had both while hubby had both plain scones. Tasteless mini muffins, all very simple. Three of the smallest sandwiches each. A sausage meat ball not even a sausage roll of any description. No tea menu whilst no big problem would have been a nice touch. Cakes sweetie treats ! Where to start not a piece of cake in sight, just tiny sweet bites all on a single side plate ! Placed on table the table. When I asked the server to please tell me what we were eating she said she’d have to check … the Apple tart definitely was not apple and was rhubarb although she was adamant I was wrong, the chap next to us agreed definitely rhubarb! The mini chocolate choux pastry just collapsed and the miniature shortbread was more like something from a kindergarten. A massive disappointment, as we left no one checked in on us. I made a point of stopping on my way out again the young lady seemed completely unbothered by our dissatisfaction. This wasn’t cheap, yes we expected more. Wish we just dropped in for a scone and a cuppa."

"The front door was being held together by sticky film as it clearly had had and accident. It turned out that the guy in ripped jeans smoking by outside was the chef. There is no counter, and my order was taken by the waitress shouting...across the room. While my food was being cooked, I learned a lot about the sale and packaging of bacon from the conversation in the kitchen, but soon there were a few ladies with babies to provide the entertainment instead, while I felt a bit like I was intruding on a private function. When the food arrived, it was good enough and the price was fair and the portion was generous. If you are expecting a refined tearoom with dainty sandwiches, this might not be the best choice, but if you go more in expectation of a cheap and cheerful transport caff, this place is fine. Forewarned is forearmed, and next time I feel like a hearty breakfast I might give it another go."
