"We often visit Chalk and Cheese and have always been delighted with our experience. The atmosphere alone is a reason to visit, with a wide variety of drinks and simple, high-quality food that never disappoints. Andrew and Bridget, the hosts, are dedicated to providing a wonderful dining experience for all patrons. The food has an Italian influence, often utilizing ingredients sourced from Andrew's trips to Italy and paired with excellent local produce. The menu choices may seem basic, but the flavors are truly exceptional. The drinks selection is unique, featuring beers from Elgoods brewery, sloe gins, quality wines, and Scottish whiskeys. Whether enjoying a quiet coffee by the fire, a romantic meal, a family lunch, or a lively night out with friends, Chalk and Cheese always impresses. This establishment should be proud of the exceptional service it provides to the village of Shouldham. Serving as a restaurant, bar, village shop, art gallery, and historic building, Chalk and Cheese offers a truly unique and memorable experience that will stay with you forever."

We stayed here just overnight and were pleased to find we had been upgraded. We stayed in the workshop which was very cosy and beautifully furnished. I loved the bed. Our breakfast was cooked to order and all the food was of the best quality. Thank you for a lovely stay

What a fantastic quaint B&B. The room was comfortable, warm, and had everything we needed. Cups etc were replenished and milk and water was available in a fridge. The owners were lovely very friendly and extremely helpful in organising taxis, food and catering to our every need- including early check in, allergies etc. We really appreciated it. Would definitely stay in this quirky, friendly place again.

My friend and I stayed here just the one night whilst taking part in a tour of East Anglia cycle ride. Andrew and Bridget were very accommodating by putting our bikes away as well as allowing my wife (support driver) to join us for breakfast. The room was cozy, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was well equipped and did all that a bathroom should. Breakfast was delicious as we were waited on by Bridget. I would loved to have stayed longer, I sense a return visit. Lovely people, great value and a wonderful location. Also, you just eat at the local, it's really very nice. Voir le carte

We took our Daughter, her Partner and Baby for Sunday Lunch. This was their first time at Chalk and Cheese and they were so impressed with the informality of the reception room and Bar. The Restaurant is a mix and match of furnishings and crockery. But this is all part of the charm of Chalk and Cheese. Sunday Lunch was excellent and extra portions of meat and vegetables were offered without us asking. This was not the first visit by my wife and I and it certainly won't be our last. Our thanks to the owners and staff for making this a memorable occasion. John Anne@ Burrettfield

For lunch, we ordered a beef and onion sandwich, a burger, ginger pudding, and custard. The food was delicious and was served relatively quickly considering it was made to order. The coffee was also excellent, one of the best I've had. The total bill came to £23 for two meals, one dessert, and four drinks, which I found to be reasonable given the high quality of the food and the charming ambiance. The only downside was the lack of baby changing facilities, although they did have high chairs available for children. The restaurant also has a small shop on-site offering a mix of local and typical convenience store items, as well as a quaint little attached antiques shop that is worth exploring.

My wife and I were on honeymoon and had visited Oxburgh Hall, and it was too late to drive home. On the spur of the moment we decided to stay one night B B and chose Chalk and Cheese. When we arrived Andrew was most helpful and offered us the room with a four poster bed. He also made available to us some freebie toiletries as we had come out unprepared for a stopover. The room and the bed were fantastic and so comfortable. His dog Lottie was lovely and really took to me. The house was just my cup of tea, with many antiquities and decorative attractions. The Shower was excellent. There was an amazing attention to detail. The breakfast was terrific. If I could give a 6 bullet rating I would! T... Voir le carte

My family and I have dined at Chalk and Cheese multiple times for dinner and it has always been a delightful experience. The restaurant is friendly, welcoming, and quirky, with a charming host and hostess Andrew and Bridget. The food is always delicious and great value for money, whether dining as a couple or as a family. They have no problem accommodating vegetarians and always offer custard with dessert. Their wine selection is top-notch as well. We celebrated New Year's Eve 2012 at Chalk and Cheese with a fantastic meal, live music, and champagne at midnight – definitely worth the slight hangover the next morning! It's a gem of a place in Shouldham and we hope it doesn't become too popula...

"We had pre-booked a table for 6 people to have lunch at 2:15pm. We arrived on time and were shown to the table, which had only been set for 4 people which meant we had to pull a further 2 chairs up to the table, and had to request a wine list. We ordered a round of drinks for the table which took c. 15 minutes to arrive. We were waiting a considerable amount of time for a food menu. Eventually we called a waiter over to order some food and were told that the kitchen we no longer serving, despite having booked a table for lunch and not being warned of the kitchen closing time. The staff told us to be quick in ordering however took a further 10 minutes to come and take the order. The food eventually came and the waitress didn 't even put the food at the correct place, she merely put them on the table for us to distribute accordingly. When the bill eventually came, we politely requested the *optional service charge was removed from the bill as we did not feel that we had received adequate service to warrant a tip, to which the manager began shouting that it as shocking that we wanted to rightfully remove the tip. He went on to say that the kitchen staff had stayed over time to prepare our food. My question to the owner is this... if your chefs are unwilling to work over their hours, why are you offering a reservation close to closing time whilst your staff are incapable of processing the orders to the kitchens in the correct timescale and working hours. If we were told that the kitchen were closing soon, we would have cooperated with the staff to help them work to their time scales."
