we only called in for a drink but the service was excellent and the drink good value very atmospheric place with lots of locals present always a good sign

Once a waitress finally brought us menus it became a fine dining experience. Excellent food (Tuna fish salas and an extremely tasty Vegetable-schnitzel). Place decorated with frogs - it was explained that tortoises (Padden) wer harder to find.

The place is located quite close to the Museum Island which is a good thing after a day of sightseeing. Lovely interior (old-worldly), many locals (always a good sign), an extensive menu with hearty German dishes, a good selection of wines and beers, v friendly staff... Not much more one could want. Had dinner at Zum Paddenwirt Sunday evening. Sat inside to enjoy the old world atmosphere. Ida was an excellent server, understood English very well. Had their wild mushroom soup which was excellent and their Berliner meatball, which was a tasty spiced meat paddy plus potatoes with bacon. All tasty good. With a large beer and a Obstler schnapps the bill was 18.30 euro, not bad for a lot of food and drinks.

Typical German restaurant with good quality and affordable German food. Nice Haxe and Soups, good Beers, not so good wine and coffee. Excellent location in Nikolaiviertel.Open extensive hours. Customer service friendly but not really efficient: they forget serving some of the ordered food ( even with the restaurant almost empty) but still charge it in the bill. Not possible to pay with card, only cash, which may raise a few brows.

We stumbled on this pub on our first night in Berlin.The outside seemed old worldy which continued on entry to the establishment.We were promptly offered a friendly welcome and shown a table to sit at.The menu was fairly comprehensive and very much German cuisine.The food was reasonably priced and portions were ample. It was all presented excellently and tasted brilliant.If we were in Berlin for longer (3 nights) we would return.First class Voir le carte

You know those places you find that you love, and aren't sure if you should share? That's Paddenwirt. My partner and I have been coming here for over 20 years. This last time was as wonderful as ever. Roasted duck and a sausage platter that sang, yes, sang with the most amazing Blutwurst I have had in my life. We typically visit in winter so eating on the patio was a treat. If you are polite and open to German food, you will be treated well even if you do not speak German. Charming, authentic, delicious, and did I mention the roasted duck with dumplings and red cabbage was around 9 Euros?

Whilst trying to avoid all the typical touristy places around Alexanderplatz, we wandered around the edges and saw this place across the main road.On approach it was nearly empty outside, which was a surprise as it was a fairly hot day. But we decided to take the chance and sat down. After a short time a waitress came out with a menu and we ordered two beers and a main course each.Service was quick and friendly and the food surpassed what we were expecting. Arrived at 9pm after a late flight and sat outside. The seating area was very nice, there were a few crowds eating good looking food and it was a warm evening. We had been travelling all day and were looking forward to a beer and a good German meal.The menus were on the table and we quickly chose what we wanted. The two waiting staff were in and out bringing food and cleaning tables.We tried to catch their attention but were completely ignored. After ten minutes we went inside and asked if we could order and were told to wait outside.
