"We received VIP service from the beginning of our experience at this restaurant. My wife and I were greeted at Swanage station and led to a cozy carriage on the side platform where I enjoyed mulled wine and my wife had a non-alcoholic orange juice. We were then escorted to the Observation Car, beautifully decorated for Christmas, as the train pulled into the main platform. Before departing for Norden, we were served champagne and sparkling elderflower. As we departed, with steam billowing from the engine in front, we were treated to an abundance of canapés and our glasses were constantly filled by the attentive staff. At Norden, we had a brief turnaround where our host shared the intriguing history of the Observation Car. Santa Claus made a visit, providing us with a Christmas card and gift. On the return journey, we passed by Corfe Castle adorned with Christmas lights, and enjoyed Stollen cake and mince pies, as well as more champagne. The 70-minute round trip was truly memorable, and we look forward to visiting again next year."

the dining experience in the evening is a must. the five course dinner was excellent and the staff were very good, and to cap it all strict dress code made the evening

My wife treated me to a wonderful birthday dinner. The meal was delicious and unforgettable. It brought back memories of my time firing the engines that are now preserved at Swanage during the steam days of British Railways.

This restaurant offers a unique dining experience with friends. The setting in the First class carriage was elegant, with nice table cloths and cutlery. Most of the young waiting staff seemed inexperienced and lacked proper training. They struggled with basic tasks like carrying multiple plates at once. The food was decent, but the mains were only just warm. Overall, the service was friendly and pleasant, but improvements could be made.

Experience a formal dining experience on a beautifully restored steam train. Unbelievable value for a 5-course dinner for two, including a bottle of prosecco, all for £120. This price also includes the train ride, as well as two bottles of white wine, a diet cola, and two lemonades for an additional £35. My partner and I had a wonderful evening, with friendly staff and perfect food. It felt great to dress up and try something different, leaving our phones behind to simply enjoy the experience. Booking in advance is highly recommended. Despite visiting Swanage for over 30 years, I had never dined on the train before. I now realize how silly it was to wait so long.

Fantastic evening on the Swanage Railway’s Wessex Belle dining train with a 5 course meal as we traversed the line pulled by 257 Squadron which was a very impressive engine. The restaurant car was immaculately prepared. Dinner was perfectly cooked and the main that I had of lamb shank was delicious and tender and the other main that our party chose of salmon was good too. Starter, Desert, Cheese and Coffee finished of a fine meal. Full bar on the train but note cask only with very friendly staff and servers. We travelled up and down the line twice taking in the sights before the sunset. Corfe Castle with the sun setting was a beautiful sight. Would thoroughly recommend for a special occasion...

We bought this as a belated birthday gift for my MIL, after the last couple of years we were very much looking forward to it. Unfortunately, as we arrived we were told that we would be stationary for the majority of the meal as the driver had been working all day and will now be over hours. We stated that this is not what we had paid for and all we were told was “they were trying their best”. We were fine with accepting that it would be a diesel train instead of a steam train due to the heatwave, but to sit in a hot carriage with a view of Swanage’s finest COOP was not the experience we were expecting. We feel poor planning by the organisers if they are reliant on only 1 or 2 drivers for an...

"We had the best time here on Saturday lunch. We arrived early to a quiet restaurant and were greeted by super friendly and well informed staff, who made us feel at ease and explained their new ‘small plates’ menu. Our kids were given a nice menu with colouring in and nothing seemed too much to ask for. We decided to let our 4 and 6 year old order from their kids menu and hoped they would try some of our dishes too. The menu really is very appealing, so much so that the 3 adults ended up ordering EVERY dish they had on the menu in the end! I think it was 16 various dishes of meats, fish, veggies and pasta’s. All homemade and with a really modern vibe. Our waitress was soo good at making us feel at ease we had the best time. A few dishes were ordered and came out really fast we were overjoyed at how beautiful they looked, and the flavours we so well balanced and punchy we got really giddy and decided to order all of the other dishes and just share them all out. Have to say each dish was a triumph, my favourite was the pork ‘burnt ends’ with sweet and sour carrots and a mustard sauce, my partners was the pointed cabbage dish with sesame, my mothers the beetroot and goats cheese crispy ball. They all were delicious, and our kids tried loads of new things like a crab pasta and a cheesey focaccia. It seems like they really thought these little dishes out soo well, temperatures, textures, colours, flavours, elegance we’ve not had anything like this outside of London. So, 16 plates in, plus the kids had their main course… we were all full up, felt like we’d been on a culinary adventure. And then we were offered something sweet okay maybe we were just being greedy, maybe we just couldn’t resist not trying more?! The kids had a ‘build your own dessert’ of ice cream and sauces and sprinkles and cake bits looked great but sadly only for kids! We had their ‘sweet things’, kind of like large petit fours. Chocolatey cake balls, salted caramel truffles and tart passion fruit jellies all were amazing! By the time we left, the restaurant was really busy and I can see why we will most certainly be coming again! Thank you!"
