"This place comes recommended so I had to try it. I was tempted by the steak pie as well as fish and chips. The fish was brilliant and pie was absolutely gorgeous and the chips were good (but I am blessed with exceptional battered chips locally where I live so they were always going to be compared to). The curry sauce was really tasty and went down nice with the fish but my favourite was the chilli sauce which I had with the pie, really unique flavour you can tell they have made them all themselves nice work. The tartare sauce was good too. The wait for chips at dinner time is huge (up to an hour) so go before you get hungry they could do with more hands on deck at peak time. There's a couple of benches outside to seat a couple of families but we chose to eat ours on the beach and enjoy the sunset. You pay a premium for the proximity to the beach I guess so not bad value."

Parking: Get there just before noon on a Sunday, as it gets busy around noon, and you should be able to grab on street parking, otherwise there is a paid car park. Service: Take out Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £1–10 Voir le carte

I enjoyed a delicious homemade cod fishcake with chips. The service was friendly, and the location was ideal. For takeout during lunch, the prices were affordable, ranging from £1 to £10. I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all as a perfect 5. Highly recommend the cod!

Take away scampi, fish and chips. Extremely busy, but a very efficient system in place to serve the customers. They have got a monopoly here, but it doesn't detract from the quality and efficiency of their business. A little goldmine of a chippy reasonably priced too bearing in mind that it appeared to be the only chippy in town!! Lovely chips, fish (haddock in my case) was spot on. Recommended!! Went to this fish and chip takeaway due to the reviews, the chips were over cooked like they had been fried at least twice half of them holding the grease in and half of them were dried out bits of potato too hard to eat, the batter on the fish was soggy in the middle and the gravy was lumpy, so disappointed, nearly £30 spent on two meals that the crows on the sea front ended up eating. Service: Take out

"Meals were great quality and plate filling. My gammon was amazing as were the pies and the scampi which the others had. The menu had a great range of meals and at very reasonable prices. The place was really busy. We were lucky to get a table and we were informed on ordering about the delay, which wasn't a problem, but was appreciated. The Dovey has a great range of drinks especially gins but also beers the Reverend James was my favourite. The manager certainly knows how to look after his cask ales. The manager Dave, I think, was rushed off his feet but always cheery and had time to speak to everyone and check on diners. Indeed, all of the staff were courteous and helpful. There was a good mix of visitors and locals in there. They obviously get a lot of local custom which is always a good recommendation! My only gripe was that they could have done with a few more staff, particularly on the bar, as we did have to wait a while to get served on occasions or maybe we were just drinking too fast! It was the height of the summer season so probably at their busiest. Incidentally, our visit was in August, not in September as assumed by the owners of another pub in the same village at which we had a less enjoyable evening the night before and wrote a less glamorous review for. In hindsight, I should have written these nearer to the time but just didn't get round to it. It wouldn't have changed either experience though. Definitely the Dovey again next time."
