"Staying in the Volksgarten Mengede hotel, having dinner in the hotel restaurant Mengeder Volksgarten is always a good idea. It’s also a good idea when staying or living nearby. I visit from The Netherlands at least once a year and never pass over...the nice dinner selection on offer. This time around I was greeted by a professional looking waiter, polite and friendly. After taking my order he presented me with a nice salad starter which was rich in flavour and crispy fresh. As a starter, I ordered the Onion soup. It came topped with a piece of bread, handsomely covered with melted cheese. The flavour of the cheese was nice, not too bland and not too strong either, just.. right. As for the onion soup itself, it had a peculiar taste. Not bad at all, but different from what is common. They incorporated a handsome amount of herbs in the soup which might account for the strong alternative flavour. It was a common size. Mailänder Schnitzel My main course was quite large. Plenty of pork to go around, covered with tomatoe slices and topped with a handsome amount of melted cheese. As a side I ordered the Bratkartoffeln, fried potatoe slices with bits of onion, bacon crumbs and some herbs, A very common and typical German food but oh so delicious, way better than a helping of fries in my humble opinion. If you require some salad on the side, you’ll be happy to hear there is unlimited use of the salad bar included. Help yourself from a nice variety of readily prepared ingredients and choose from dressings. Dessert is always a surprise at this restaurant. What can I choose from? Or is there just a day special? Or no dessert at all? This time though they actually had a separate dessert card! Several selections to choose from my choice for today: the Coupe Danmark. It comes close to what is commonly sold as a Dame Blanche: some scoops of vanilla icecream, topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. The Coupe Danmark also incorporated chocolate flakes. Nice addition! Taste is as expected. As it is that time of the year, the restaurant same as the rest of the hotel had the christmas decorations on display, complete with a miniature Santa as the centerpiece of every table. To end the visit to the restaurant, I usually have them add the bill to the chamber account. No problem this time either. Or was it........... In the end they were a bit unclear about it, asking several times if I was going to pay cash or card when paying the hotel bill, even though that moment would come only tomorrow. From all the hesitation, though I’m not quite sure, I concluded the restaurant is not a part of the hotel anymore but a seoarately run business. Anyway, they figured it out eventually so let’s just say this situation was new to them, so I’m sure you won’t run into this bit of unclarity at the end of a nice dinner once you’re here.. On account of that ‘startup problem’ I’m not lowering the rating as it was a perfectly well taken care of dinner and rate it stars. If you haven’t tried this place yet, be sure to do so! the menu selection is not kept too large, but for everyone there is something. the quality of the food was very good!

we came in the evening and were relatiw late; yet we were still kindly served and communicatiw; not to finish, but a real interest in the guest.The food was delicious, we had fish ... the soned were very tasty.

Nice hotel visually, clean and tidy rooms, Found it to be a bit unfriendly if not a German and would suggest a hotel for UK residents would be better found in Dortmund Central with better travel links and more cosmopolitan. Voir le carte

we had reserved a 3-course menu. tomaten soup as appetizer, two grill plates as main menu. bark, black and bun grilled with speck and tweepers and as a supplement bratkartoffels, croquettes or pommes. has been very good. the dessert was the highlight. crêpes with ice, saw and saucen. a tight! best thanks to the cook, keep it!

we had a table reserved for Sunday afternoons, and were also very friendly. Although there were not many guests in the restaurant, it took a long time to get the soup served as an appetizer. the grill plate was decorated on a large square plate: various steaks with crispy speck, röstis, crimson and garlic butter. actually excellent if the meat hadn't been lukewarm when serving. then a waiting period of about 20 minutes until the dessert was served. because of the slow services, the evaluation is unfortunately only satisfactory.

we were eating there for our wedding day. the friendly cellar has followed the desire to organize a special table for us, where we could revel in good memories. We would like to thank you very much for this. such a service is exceptional and shows that it is not only of profit to the restaurant, but above all of the satisfaction of the guest. eating was also very good and no mass production. we had ordered fish and steak. the food was already good at the time, with the old owner, the new owners have increased the quality from my own but again. we always like to come there and can recommend the load at the best! Revisiting this lovely restaurant situated by the Volksgarten Mengede park, I was yet again pleased by the ambiance and lovely food. Without going too much into detail - please read my previous review of this place - I'd like to add I can see the quality increasing, along with the amount of visitors I might add.Still there's a feeling to homecooked meals there, mostly noticable through the little things, like the way the apetizer and dessert are presented (more how you would expect them to be served at home during a lovely holiday family dinner, than how you would expect to see them at a commercial restaurant) and the way some smaller parts of the main course are sharing a plate, eg no separ...

The Restaurant Mengeder Volksgarten shares the building with the Hotel Volksgarten Mengede, named after the park that surrounds the building. It has a separate entrance (the one to the left, marked Restaurant) and caters both to hotel guests and individual visitors, eg people combining their visit with a nice walk in the park.The restaurant has plenty of nice tables and has recently completely been renovated, as it is under new management as of March 2015. Though there is some interweaving with the hotel next door, the restaurant is a separate entity and can be booked as such.
