"Before I even start I must declare a conflict of interest: I am Portuguese, and thus my opinion on the food might be harsh. This is what it looks and feels like Sports club restaurant that got so popular that it is now mainly a restaurant. It looks like most local restaurants in Portugal, those that few tourists visit, but in a good way. It is homely, if not totally comfortable, the service friendly, not 100% efficient but things get done. The decoration is mostly football based, but this was (is)? a sports club after all. I was there with a large party (> 20) of which the majority was not Portuguese, and I can say the food was a success. There are many dishes to choose from, but it felt like they tasted the same. Of course, being from Portugal I can say that I had better, but they were very nice nonetheless. My imprecise estimate was that most patrons were not Portuguese, so it never felt like we were intruders - sometimes happens in these places. There is also a nice selection of Portuguese wine (and beer), and the prices are very reasonable. All in all, it is a nice low-key, friendly and welcoming place with good Portuguese food."

We've been here about 4 times now and its one of our favorite places to eat. Seafood is fantastic, drinks are good, and the service is great. Worth every penny.

This is one of the most interesting restaurants in Mainz - not much to show in terms of interior design, but one of the best portugese food sampled outside of Portugal.

It's a new part of the city, not centre. The small mussels are definitely small and have too much usually crispy sands. Mixed paella wasn't so bad, but you should better to prefer seafood paella. Very friendly and cheerful staff.

I don't have the opportunity to eat often in a portugese restaurant and took the chance while I was in Mainz. All the meals that were served were well prepared with fresh top quality products, especially the fish dishes. In sommer you can eat outside. Voir le carte

I am a Flight Attendant, and enjoy the Mainz Germany layover. I get bored eating at the same places. I tried UDP. What a wonderful place. My new place! If you are looking for authentic pourtgese food, give this place a try! I am sure you will love it. Get there early!

All the staff are Portuguese and speak the language. It is in fact, affiliated with a Football club. We had a selection of starters; croquettes, garlic prawns, grilled calamari, salad etc. - all of which was very tasty. For the main course, I had the Octopus with boiled potatoes covered in Garlic - very delicious. We also had a decent Portuguese wine with the food. All in all a good evening out and the restaurant caters for large groups.

I really can't understand this high rating. I've been there twice (not for my choice) and compared to other portuguese restaurants in Mainz, there is a lot to improve. Food was simple, fresh made, quite cheap. Menu is good, a lot of fish, but not only (as in some other Portuguese restaurant). A lot of staff, nice, authentic, family-kind. Atmosphere is ok if you find place outside. Inside, quite cold (dark, few neon lights). There are a lot of tables for big groups/events. Service is deadly slow. Location is in the middle of nowhere (quite scary industrial suburb). I would never come back, sorry. It doesn't worth the bus tickets to get there. Voir le carte

... so you can be sure that this restaurant offers great Portuguese food and drink. We were introduced to this somewhat out-of-the-way restaurant by Portuguese friends and we've been back many time since - as a couple, as a family and as part of much larger groups to celebrate birthdays. The food and the atmosphere are always super - both down-to-Earth and authentic. Everything about UDP is a bit dated - the location, the building, the decor, the menus - even the website BUT this just adds to the authenticity. If you want to experience a small part of Portugal in Mainz then head over to UDP - butbe sure to book a table especially at the weekend.

This restaurant is one of my favourites in Mainz and area. It is definitely an experience and the food has constant excellent quality over the last almost 10 years. They improve on the ambience more and more, although I liked the original alot. The food is authentic portuguese, with excellent grilled fish for a very reasonable price. I cannot even recommend a favourite, as I loved everything I had so far. The restaurant itself is decorated simple and partly has the flair of a sports hall, but that only is because it was one many years ago, when the UDP (Portuguese Mainz soccer team) was deep in dept and started this extremely simple restaurant to save the soccer team, which it did - and addi...
