"The Thornhill Inn would appear to be a side business for the adjoining restaurant. Situated in the centre of the very attractive village of Thornhill it is no doubt a fine place drink or dine. When we visited on a Monday evening however the signs on the restaurant door advised that they were closed for the first few days of the week, and the locked doors of the pub suggest that the same applies there. Indeed, we were advised later by the landlord at the nearby (and excellent) Farmer’s Arms that the Thornhill Inn only opens for two or three days a week. So if you come when it’s closed, and you only want a drink, I highly recommend a short stroll along the road to the Farmer’s, which is a fine example of a traditional Scottish pub that stays open."

Nice place for food, a bit on the dark side but the food was good. Basic standard pub grub. Friendly serving staff.

Solid pub grub with a varied and extensive menu. Fish and chips are delicious. The venison with cheesy potatoes is great, as is the duck. Pasta dishes have always been tasty too. Portion sizes are huge so you definitely won’t go home hungry! Good value for money too.

Went in for evening meal with my wife ,ordered main course each. Waited 40 minutes for it to arrive. Deary me I got the battered fish and my wife got curry. If farm foods done restaurants then this is it. So bland and greasy I got what was called Tiger chips. Sweet potato and normal potato combined. Cold and greasy and uneadable. £14**and £13 eachI did complain but met with silence. Expensive lesson learned Voir le carte

Visiting the area from within Dumfries and Galloway, I was expecting a warm welcome as a visitor. Unfortunately, apparently I should have booked ahead. The ‘restaurant’ (bar with tables) had one table occupied with four guests. In a larger room it appears that the local Rotary Club were in, it’s a regular thing, but because of this another two people couldn’t be accommodated, obviously they hadn’t anticipated additional guests! This is all despite, or maybe because of, the prices being significantly above what you might expect for the area. If they can afford to turn folk away, when they aren’t especially busy, best of luck to them

The Thornhill Inn is in the center if Thornhill, a fairly quiet Scottish town. We came to have dinner with friends and family following a sad event. For us that fact that the pub was quiet (I think that our table was the only one in there) was perfect. It meant that we could all catch up and was almost akin to private dining. The staff did well accommodating the various order requests (children’s, starters, mains etc) for a party of 10 so that it all arrived hot and in time. The food was good (my salmon was lovely and cooked correctly). The children’s look great and the other food delicious. The staff left us alone, which was great but can when we rang the bell. For us it was perfect, but pe...

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
