"In the approach to Christmas, at the time of goodwill to all men, I feel hesitant writing this review. We 've had meals at The Bell before, probably on three occasions, and they have been fine with good service. This time we met friends here and had driven a long way through driving rain and were hungry! The restaurant was full, and so was the waiting area. I think the other half of the room was being used for a meeting or conference maybe, so perhaps the restaurant floor area where we normally sit was reduced. We were greeted reasonably and shown to our table and sat down, We were presented with the Festive menu. We preferred to order from the main menu. After about 15 minutes, we had to ask for these from behind the bar. Our drinks came pretty quickly our waitress was courteous and friendly, and our food order was taken. After over an hour, and noting that other tables who arrived well after we did were served before us, we enquired as to whether we had been forgotten. We had to go and find someone to ask. After 20 minutes more, our food did arrive. The bream, liver and fish and chips were OK. But I don 't think the chef knows how to cook the basics, unless a work experience person or the like was given responsibility. Mashed potato was cold and getting solid. Saute potatoes were few and far between, overcooked, small and cold. The salad was a dozen olives thrown onto a couple of lettuce leaves. The waitress offered to have the mash replaced, but we didn 't have another hour to spare. The waitress was full of apologies, but said she had asked about the delay from the kitchen. The food isn 't cheap here, so quality ought to have been reasonabe, not partly sub standard or unenjoyable. We apologised to our friends for recommending this venue. Although the bill was adjusted, we 'll probably try somewhere else next time. Shame, because we love the area and the decor."

"I absolutely love Italian cuisine, but it's often challenging to find authentic Italian restaurants. To my delightful surprise, this restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. The food is genuinely authentic Italian, complemented by excellent service. They also cater to children, offering smaller portions of pasta, pizza, and other meal adjustments. Everything was delicious! The only downside for us is that it's not local, but if you get the chance, make sure to add this place to your list of must-visit restaurants."

"I would not recommend this restaurant. It was the worst dining experience I have ever had. We ordered two Chicken Bacon and Avocado salads with sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, and salad leaves. The salads were initially served without chicken, and when they returned to the table with the chicken added, we noticed there was no avocado. We had to ask for avocado, and when it was provided, it was only five thin slices to share between both dishes. We also had to request red onion as it was missing as well. The service was extremely slow. Despite booking a table online and receiving a booking reference, no table was prepared upon our arrival, and there was no record of our reservation at the restaurant. This used to be a great pub with excellent quality food, but in October 2023, that was not the case. The price per person was between £50-£60. Food quality, service, and atmosphere were all rated as 1 out of 5."

"The Garlic Salt Squid was one of the worst squid dishes I've ever eaten. Tiny circles of squid so dry that it was like trying to eat rubber bands only less elastic. I'm used to eating chillies but one piece caused me significant distress. For nearly 10 minutes, I could hardly talk. A terrible dish but I didn't want to complain at the time because I didn't want to put a downer on the evening for my wife and friends. Very poor value for money. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3"

"We were attending a gig at the local arts centre and wanted a meal beforehand. Not knowing the area we looked on here for suggestions and found The White Horse and were so glad we did. From the moment we walked through the door to leaving it was excellent, a warm welcome from the staff, a very nice menu and superb food. I chose the Venison in red wine pie, while 2 others had steak ale pies and a halloumi fries. All 3 pie eaters said how nice the pies were with tasty pastry packed with meat, and the roasted vegetables complimented the unique version of mash. We never had time to try the desserts on the specials board but if there looked a nice selection."
