"We dined in the restaurant as part of a package at the hotel that my friend had booked for my birthday. We arrived for our evening meal at 7.45pm. The restaurant is very pretty and there were a few tables in. It was a nice atmosphere. We were given the menus and chose a reasonably priced bottle of Pinot Grigio blush rose. I chose the soup to start, roast pepper and butternut squash and my friend the prawns. The soup was quite bland. There was no salt and pepper on the table. I only really ordered it as there was nothing else I fancied and we were having 3 courses. The prawns were good. For main we both ordered the chicken breast with fries and peppercorn sauce. This was really disappointing. I could hardly cut the chicken with my knife and could have done with a steak one. The fries were served in a metal bucket, looked good but soggy at the bottom. The chicken reminded me of something you would cook when you are learning to cook and just plonk a chicken breast on a tray and put it in the oven! It wasn’t seasoned or in any marinade. It wasn’t soft or moist. I believe if you picked this on the a la carte menu it was around £23 which is just ridiculous for what it was. I ate it but only because I was starving! The sticky toffee was lovely and my friend enjoyed her lemon tart. By half 8 in the restaurant there was no one else in, so the early nice atmosphere just vanished. We finished our wine whilst they laid the tables for breakfast around us. My friend said she would put the wine on the room as that was all we had to pay. The bill was £43? The young gentleman explained that we were on a two course dinner rate so had to pay for the puddings. My friend could well have had this stated in her booking email but when you are faced with a three course menu and no one says anything how would you know? The soup I never would have had and the sticky toffee although delightful was not worth paying £9 for. I felt bad that my friend was picking this up as it was totally unnecessary. At breakfast we were served by the same young girl who overcharged us for the Prosecco the day before. She asked if we wanted tea or coffee but didn’t say, have you been before, it’s a buffet, please help yourself to juice, cereal etc. The hot self serve wasn’t great. The bacon looked like it had walked in from the field as did the sausages. The hash browns were flat cold and the eggs looked like they had been there from the day before. The restaurant looks stunning and with a few tweaks I think it could be fabulous but I wouldn’t be rushing back after this visit."

The food was delicious, but I likely wouldn't have been willing to pay the prices if I hadn't been staying at the hotel with a large group.

Excellent food and service as always, I'm a Yorkshireman myself so I particularly enjoyed the full English which set me up for the long drive home.

Ate in this restaurant as part of a spa package deal. The evening meal was superb, and a great selection at breakfast too. Would definitely return.

We ate here as part of a spa break. The food was delicious, the restaurant itself is cosy and nicely laid out, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed for two evenings in the Tansy Suite at the castle. The oldest running castle in the U.K. 1000 years. The history is mind-blowing and the grounds. I booked two nights in the restaurant as the photos looked outstanding on the website. The first night I ordered asparagus tips, British hen egg and hollandaise sauce. Mmmmm, not what I expected. The tips were undercooked, the egg was poached well, the sauce

Once again, similar to the hotel, the restaurant lacked attention to detail. When we arrived, the table was not set up properly and the water jug was too large for the table. The prawn starter was disappointing and the garlic balls were extremely hard. However, the cheese soufflé was good. The main courses of duck and fish were very nice, and the desserts were satisfying. The restaurant had lots of cobwebs that needed to be addressed, as well as sauce stains on the pipe work and walls. The breakfast was fabulous and the service was attentive. Overall, the restaurant would benefit from paying more attention to details. Voir le carte

I was kindly sent complementary vouchers for afternoon tea by the manager, in a bid to restore faith in Hazelwood Castle after leaving a poor review. Oh dear, the exact same problems we experienced the first time (July 2022) are exactly the same. The bare minimum staff are poorly trained and my, does it show. The negative reviews for afternoon tea have a couple of common themes running through them, and this is what we experienced. I blame the food service manager....train the staff you do have to a high standard, keep on top of things, be kind, get stuck in and the department will run like clockwork. I think the owners rely on the past glory years of this beautiful place, but you can't fool...

Disappointing and very over priced. Having been staying at Hazelwood for a business course we went to dinner. Service was very slow, 45 mins to receive our mains I had chicken £28 which was dry, parma ham over the top was brick hard, ordered triple cooked chips at £5 which were oily fries. Friend ordered the venison which needed a steak knife to cut it. Water glasses were not refilled. When plates were cleared we were not asked if we wanted a dessert, had to ask. Sticky toffee pudding was good but was £9 and took ages to come. Never asked if we wanted more drinks. I would definitely not eat in here again. My meal main, desert and a coke cost me £48, a 10% service charge was added as well. Ve...
