"We were looked after from the moment we stepped in. Although the lady was busy, she spoke to us every time she passed us, assuring us that she would be with us very soon and she was. She never stopped, but yet served us...and everyone else promptly. When it was quiet later, she stopped to chat a bit which was lovely. The food was magnificent. It was absolutely piping hot and obviously very freshly cooked. The chips were the best traditional ones I can remember. The peppered chicken was perfectly cooked and the homemade sauce was superb. My husband's gammon, egg and chips included pineapple and onion rings and was excellent. The hearty portions would have delighted our foody sons but the last few chips defeated me and neither of us could manage any more. The choice of drinks was perfect for us. I loved the Aspall's cider really fresh and appley. All in all, a delightful evening. Thank you."

After booking for last Saturday, we pulled up to find that the owner was waiting for us. Unfortunately they had just closed with a gas leak given a voucher for lunch the next day. When we called to check everything was OK she knew...exactly who we were excellent Sunday lunch followed they don't like people going away hungry.......

We came here as a party of 7 for Sunday lunch and were well looked after from the moment we walked in. The young waitress with the cool green hair and blonde hostess were so attentive and made sure we couldn't want for anything... Even...the dog was spoilt with treats and water. The two course Sunday roast for £12 did not disappoint, delicious whitebait and pate then a generous portion of turkey with all the trimmings. We particularly enjoyed the Stilton brocolli cheese! Thank you to all staff involved and we would not hesitate to return if we're in the area again!

"We had pre-booked a table for 6 people to have lunch at 2:15pm. We arrived on time and were shown to the table, which had only been set for 4 people which meant we had to pull a further 2 chairs up to the table, and had to request a wine list. We ordered a round of drinks for the table which took c. 15 minutes to arrive. We were waiting a considerable amount of time for a food menu. Eventually we called a waiter over to order some food and were told that the kitchen we no longer serving, despite having booked a table for lunch and not being warned of the kitchen closing time. The staff told us to be quick in ordering however took a further 10 minutes to come and take the order. The food eventually came and the waitress didn 't even put the food at the correct place, she merely put them on the table for us to distribute accordingly. When the bill eventually came, we politely requested the *optional service charge was removed from the bill as we did not feel that we had received adequate service to warrant a tip, to which the manager began shouting that it as shocking that we wanted to rightfully remove the tip. He went on to say that the kitchen staff had stayed over time to prepare our food. My question to the owner is this... if your chefs are unwilling to work over their hours, why are you offering a reservation close to closing time whilst your staff are incapable of processing the orders to the kitchens in the correct timescale and working hours. If we were told that the kitchen were closing soon, we would have cooperated with the staff to help them work to their time scales."
