"I recently stayed at this hotel for a few nights, as I had stayed there the previous year as well. The staff was friendly, the room was well-equipped, and there was a good selection of tea/coffee and toiletries. The view of Dunkery Hill from the window was lovely. I dined in the pub one evening when they were serving a carvery, which was delicious with generous portions. The dessert menu was difficult to choose from, but I opted for the profiteroles which were a favorite of mine and were served in a good portion. The hotel also provided catering for an event at the village hall across the street on another night. Breakfast was substantial with a good variety of options (pre-orders were taken the night before). For future guests, a few tips to keep in mind: the stairs to the rooms are a bit steep, so those with mobility issues may find it challenging. Also, noise from adjacent rooms can be heard as is common in hotels, so bringing earplugs could be helpful for light sleepers. If I have the opportunity to attend the same event in the future, I would definitely consider staying here again. Overall, a positive experience."

We very much enjoyed our dinner, which was well-proportioned, tasty and also well presented. Quite good wine list with reasonable selection.

Lovely food at a very good price. The staff were friendly enough but it had an old school feel to it. There were plenty of locals drinking in the bar which did give a good atmosphere.

My wife and i called in here on our way home from Tarr Steps. We had not booked, but were shown to a table and the service was attentive. The food was lovely, great service and reasonable prices. We would not hesitate to return.

Have previously only been to the Rest and Be for Sunday lunch but this time needed an evening meal. What a good choice! My friend chose the plaice and i had the ham, eggs sand chips. Both meals beautifully cooked and presented. Compliments to ther chef indeed.

We went for Sunday lunch today and opted for the Carvery, which was excellent. The roasted meats were delicious and there was a wide variety of vegetable side dishes available. The condiments were plentiful as well. Despite being full, I couldn't resist trying the coffee and brandy mousse for dessert.

The food at this restaurant was fantastic! We ordered three portions of the pork and apple cider pie and one portion of the butternut, chickpea, and spinach curry. All dishes were packed with flavor. For dessert, we had a sticky toffee pudding and a banoffee pie, which were a bit pricey but definitely worth it.

We have previously gone to the Carvery at Raleigh Cross but after reading their bad reviews decided against going. A local had added that they would now be going to Weddon Cross. Good reviews so we thought we would give it a try. So glad we did we had a really great carvery full marks to the excellent chef they have it was delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient without being intrusive. When down on holiday this will be our go to pub to eat!

A great experience. We went for the Sunday Carvery but the weekday menu also looked very good. Fantastic Carvery with a choice of nice lean beef, pork , or turkey. Excellent choice of vegetables. Unusually, you could have any two meats at no extra charge. Can never understand why some charge more for this . I had beef and pork, my sister had turkey. All the meat was very tender and full of flavour as was the veg. Excellent service. A nice lady carried my sister's meal to our table and a second drink arrived within minutes of ordering. A very big selection of desserts. We were spoilt for choice. We both had the Eton Mess. Superb. Incidentally, the dessert menu is not on the website, only one...

The George Inn

The George Inn

Brompton Regis, TA22 9NL, West Somerset, United Kingdom

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
