"I don't always review this pub each time I visit, they would all be positive reviews if I did but, feel I need to on this occasion. Horrid weather night but we were warmly welcomed upon arrival. The place was clearly extremely busy so, there was a slight wait for our table and we were also slightly late, to be fair. I was going to order the fish pot but, due to the logistics of our relatively small table in a very busy pub, I didn't as I wasn't sure if the shell fish arrived prepared or not; I should have asked on reflection. Two of us had the 6oz prime steak burgers and myself and my other friend had the beetroot and butternut squash wellington, roasted new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, redcurrant and rosemary gravy, which was excellent; I would definitely recommend. Lovely atmosphere, nice and warm and cosy, excellent and attentive staff, who were clearly extremely busy and tying to attend to everyone and everything. 100% recommend and I will visit again but, two waiting staff for such a busy evening was not great although John and the lady waitress were excellent; maybe the pub is short staffed or was let down last minute but this does need to be addressed. Thank you for a lovely meal and evening regardless."

I will definitely visit again. The restaurant is dog-friendly, with friendly staff. The kids' fish and chips were very delicious, and the macaroni cheese was yummy. Even my dog enjoyed the dog biscuits they had on offer!

For the second year we stopped en route to Cornwall for breakfast. First rate , service , food and cost. It’s a far better option than the service area and just off junction 15 of the M4. Good parking. Strongly recommended.

We had a great time during our first visit to this restaurant, meeting our family halfway between Hampshire and Cardiff. The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was lovely, and the food was excellent. We highly recommend trying the sticky toffee pudding. We will definitely be returning.

The Plough on the Hill was half-way for a family get together and present handover, conveniently located just off the motorway. It was busy with other people who were doing the same. Very warm and well decorated pub restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. The food was excellent and we didn't feel rushed at all. Voir le carte

Busy pub for food but good service , good food and friendly , first visit for a few years but certainly worth as visit . Even though we did not book we were made to feel welcome even though was close to closing for food , both meals we had were very hot and tasty , drink selection is good to , the staff were very friendly . Well worth a visit .

Went for lunch on Wednesday 25th. Lovely, welcoming staff who were attentive but not pushy. Husband had fish and chips and I had the fish pot which was chock full of fish : salmon, smoked and unsmoked haddock, prawns and mussels in a creamy sauce with samphire. Both were really good portions and delicious- we were too full for dessert but will certainly be back. Highly recommended

The food was delicious and the ambiance was pleasant, but our server was extremely unfriendly. Despite the restaurant not being too busy, we experienced very slow service, short and almost rude conversations, and requested items (like mustard) being thrown onto the table. While this may not be the norm based on other reviews, our experience was disappointing enough that we won't be returning and can't recommend it to others. Voir le carte

A friend and I had the Sunday roast. Beautifully tender roast lamb with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and mixed vegetables the cauliflower cheese and the carrots were particularly good. All piping hot and served with a delicious gravy. Our waitress, Victoria, was brilliant very friendly and attentive. Finished with really good coffee. This pub has such a good atmosphere. We’ve been several times and the staff are always very friendly.

We had a little family walk up the ridgeway and had booked the plough. I live locally but hadn’t been before. I started with a pint of Guinness, I’m a fussy Guinness drinker it was top notch. Family of 4 we just went for mains- T bone for myself (cooked to perfection) Risotto for my wife sausage mash for the kids. The food, the drinks the service all made it an excellent experience. Too often these days customers can pay for very average food service- that won’t be your experience if you visit the plough on the hill- I couldn’t fault a thing look forward to our next visit.
