"We had a great meal and everyone was well satisfied, even with one vegetarian and one with allergies in our group! The staff were very understanding of the allergy requirements and assured us that most of the food is made on site and no nuts are used in the kitchen. They were happy to talk through our exact requirements and really made us feel that they were very on top of things, which really helped us relax and enjoy ourselves. It's so nice to have somewhere we can go within walking distance that serves such delicious food Vegetarian options: The veg option looked delicious and our vegetarian was well pleased with their meal! "Popped in here for lunch. They have a limited lunch menu and also 2 vegan sandwiches but they are fantastic- avocado on toast with either pesto or hummus. We tried and loved both of them- quality ingredients and great presentation. Also had some juices (green one the orange one) and had a vegan treat to take away (an oaty one). They had 4 vegan treat options and they said they usually have more. They had non dairy milk options (saw oatly and alpro soya). Mostly take away although some benches inside and one right outside too. Updated from previous review on 2022-05-09"

"Lovely place to stay in lovely Uppingham. Chef beware of over sweetening your savoury dishes. Rooms: Stayed in the main building and the room was very nice and comfortable. Good bath and shower products, good power shower and all nice and clean. Bed good and slept well. Food drinks: We ate dinner in the restaurant. The service was very good, efficient and friendly. The food was well presented but I found much of what I had too sweet. I started with the Stinking Bishop Brûlée, which was served cold. I found it stodgy and claggy as a result of it being cold. As it was a brûlée I had expected a crust but possibly something more savoury than sugary. I took it off and left it as it was overpowering. The biscotti’s were also sweet, a little dollop of apple sauce was very sweet and the little apple and cress salad was sweet. There was a dollop of a balsamic reduction but not enough to temper all the sweetness. I had the halibut for main. It came with a cheese crust. The fish was a good portion but it was way overcooked probably due to the cheese crust. Again there was a lot of sweetness on the plate with very sweet celeriac purée. There was a gammon and leek side and the leek was sweet too, so I found myself trying to get a bit of gammon on every mouthful to again temper the sweetness. There were 3 of us that all had the same starter and main and we each found it all very sweet. The 4th in our group had the Indian spiced cauliflower starter, which was great, and the Seabass main, which was also good, however the rice dumplings were like rock hard bullets. We didn’t have dessert as felt like we’d already had it! We stayed in the hotel and the breakfast was superb. I had the Traditional Full English and there was no sweetness messing about confusing my tastebuds, I’m pleased to say. It was great with nice locally sourced quality ingredients."

"I highly recommend this place. I went for a meal with my husband here last night. We both had a starter, pate for my husband and stuffed peppers for me. They were both faultless. My husband said it was the best pate he had tasted and my peppers were delicious they were both accompanied by a tomato chutney which was also delicious. My husband had the steak for his main and I had scampi. The portions were really generous and every element of the meals were excellent. Don Paddys is a really friendly venue with great staff. They allow dogs in which I think is a great idea. I have been here at lunch time and also in the evenings just for a drink and have enjoyed evey occasion. It is a gem of a place to eat and drink."

"We had the most amazing vegan reception at the Marquess of Exeter! From the moment we contacted the manager, Gill, we knew it would be perfect. The venue is beautiful and the staff were wonderful. The food was delicious, plentiful, and affordable. Gill was exceptionally organized and helpful throughout the planning process. The canapes, meal, and desserts were all outstanding, and even our non-vegan guests were impressed. We danced, drank, and enjoyed ourselves until midnight. A huge thank you to Gill, Brian, and everyone at the Marquess. We will definitely be back for dinner next time we are in town!"
