"As our favourite Chinese takeaway is closed due to current restrictions, we thought we would try the new five star for our takeaway as it was once a very good restaurant. Definitely a poor choice in my opinion. Our first try was November, our order was Shredded chicken in Kung po sauce with fried rice and a crispy beef in Peking sauce with fried rice. Kung po chicken was only just edible, the beef was slices of beef, not crispy battered as ordered again poor standard. We didn't leave a review as times at the moment are very trying, and everyone deserves another chance. Last night we gave them a second chance and so sorry we did as this time, it was if even possible, worse than the last. We ordered crispy chicken in mandarin sauce fried rice and salt and chili chips, chicken in garlic and ginger fried rice and chips. We received a box of what seemed to be our crispy dried out looking chicken (tasteless) and a carton of what they said was mandarin sauce, but tasted of a carton of tomato ketchup so basically it was not crispy chicken cooked in amandarin sauce it was a do it yourself kit.. also no fries with the order and when we called to queerie them we were told a forty minute wait (for their mistake) sorry but just not good enough... I gave this review a one star review due to the salt and chili chips being very nice or I wouldn't have gave it any at all.... I would never recommend this takeaway service to anyone, I gave it another chance but sorry I did!!"

Been eating here for many years. Food still great but chaotic service. Bring back Ben! Long wait for main course and no heated plates.

Have not been in for some time, so went back to try it again. Food was very good and we both enjoyed the dishes we had. Service was very good.

The food and service at this restaurant were fantastic. The 2-course special menu was excellent value and allowed for some flexibility in side dishes by paying a small difference. We regret waiting so long between visits and can't wait to go back again soon.

The price of the business lunch has increased since the last time I dined here, especially the cost of drinks. My wife and I ordered two glasses of milk and were surprised to be charged £2.50 each. It was the most expensive milk I have ever purchased, especially for such a small glass. This experience has convinced us to never return to this restaurant again. I dislike feeling like I have been overcharged.

I went to this restaurant for lunch and found the staff to be helpful and efficient. The highlight of the meal was the starters of chicken and sweetcorn soup and cream of chicken soup, which were delicious. However, I was disappointed by the chicken curry and fried rice as the sauce was too runny and the rice was overly salty. The desserts, especially the ice cream, were lovely and of good quality. Unfortunately, the pineapple fritter was soggy and lukewarm. Voir le carte

Came back again for lunch and honestly can’t fault it! £11 for 3 courses you can’t beat it the food is absolutely delicious and very authentic, the soup was thick and creamy the curry wasn’t too hot or mild it’s was one of the best curries I’ve ever eaten and there was loads of chicken in it! The staff are very helpful and friendly the restaurant itself is clean and very cosy . Honestly can’t wait to return again! If you haven’t tried it definitely get yourself to it.

I’ve not been in here in years! Well over 10 years however that’s not through choice I’m just not in Kilmarnock a lot. We came here for dinner after been told by many friends and work colleagues how good it is and it didn’t disappoint the food is absolutely delicious!! Best Chinese I’ve had in a long long time by a mile and I’ve had alot ! The portion sizes are huge the soup was so thick and creamy! We had the cream of chicken soup to start then the breast of chicken curry with no veg and fried rice with a portion of salt and chilli chip’s everything was absolutely amazing and so delicious!! You also get given complimentary prawn crackers for the table. And for a Wednesday teatime it became...

"Visited using an Itison voucher for steak surf turf. Decided to have soup for starters which was advertised as being served with freshly baked bread. The soup was served in a very small bowl and was tasteless. The bread was anything but fresh and felt and tasted like it had been lying in the back of a cupboard for a fortnight. Now for the steak. We asked for sirloin but was told there was none left and we would have to take ribeye. The steak arrived and one look put us off. This was certainly not ribeye and was more like some sort of reconstituted beef. I would have to say that it is the worst steak we’ve ever been served. The surf part was 3 sad looking small prawns that had been placed on top of the steak. The owner asked us how it was and we told him how dissatisfied and disappointed we were. To this comment he then became quite aggressive and told us to leave. He obviously doesn’t like criticism. We had our meal on a Saturday night and we’re the only people in the restaurant. Surely this must tell you something. We had booked the dining room but was told it was closed due to lack of clientele and that we would have to sit in the bar. We had been regular visitors and know that they recently lost their head chef who was very good. The food is now very substandard and nothing like the delicious food that was served by the previous chef. Come on Sorn…you need to do much better!!"

"On holiday in the area and found this place online for somewhere to eat. Menu looked great. Arrived and the impression we got with the mess around the building continued indoors. Lady who took us to our table was lovely but then it went downhill again quickly when we were given the menu definitely not what it was online). It was litterly falling apart and only a fraction of what was on the online menu. We ordered food and while waiting 2 women with 5 children came in. Noise from the children was heard as soon as they got to the front door. I don't believe any of the children were at fault as the women didn't try to get them to be just a little quieter they both just shouted louder to hear each other. Both my teenage daughter and I expected the waitress to ask them to maybe just turn the volume down just a little but it turned out she knew them and like the mums she just shouted louder to be heard! Food arrived hot. Steak pie was very tasty but pizza was the kind I can buy in supermarket for about 50p. Desserts of cheesecake and sticky toffe pudding both tasted odd. We didn't eat them and just left to get away from the noise. I totally understand the staff can't dictate who frequents their establishment but they could ask rowdy customers to lower the volume instead of shouting over them. Food was nothing to shout about and we left wishing we had just stopped at the local chip shop instead"

"As we were staying at the Dumfries House Lodge for a couple of nights we took the opportunity to visit the Library Restaurant which is a short stroll away from the guesthouse in Dumfries House itself. Little did we know as we approached the magnificent Robert Adam building in it’s glory on a bright and peaceful evening that we were about to have a private dining experience! By absolute chance there were no other reservations that evening and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Despite my attempt to convince my wife that I had paid a fortune for the privilege I don’t think she was entirely taken in for more than a few seconds. We understand that the following night was fully booked. The setting is quite unique as you are led from the visitors entrance through to the library which had a cosy atmosphere with a log fire burning, the grand mantelpiece surround, the comfortable settee, subtle lighting and a small bar. With our bottle of NZ Pinot Noir ordered and a glass poured we were able to browse the menu in comfort. There were five options for each course and all reasonably priced from starters at £6 £7, mains £12 £22 (steak) and dessert at £5 or cheese for £7. The young waiter, who was attentive but discrete throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. The dining area itself beyond was lined with book shelves and ten or so tables stylishly set with good spacing between although in the circumstances there were no issues with other diners! For starters my wife had Goats cheese with red onion and tomatoes whilst I opted for the Confit Duck Pie with duck scratching and salad. The duck was served in a ramekin style dish topped with mashed potato which was a surprise although the duck was tasty, as was my wife’s goats cheese. Mains for my wife was Chicken Ballantine stuffed with Shitaki served with parmesan gnocchi and spinach which she enjoyed. I had monkfish in butter, served with puy lentils, artichoke puree and herb sauce. The fish was delicious however puy lentils may be an acquired taste which I unfortunately haven’t acquired a taste for as yet and there were quite a lot of them! Dessert consisted of Lemon amoretti cheesecake with a berry compote for my wife and White chocolate panna cotta and a doughnut with an apple sauce for myself. My wife thought the berry compote drowned the other flavours and I thought my dish was just ok. Full marks for the setting, food presentation, service and pricing (our bill including wine was £85 ex tip) but we were slightly disappointed with the flavours of some of the food overall in comparison to our previous meal on the estate at the former Stables Restaurant. At time of our recent visit the restaurant was only open Thursday to Sunday. It is a possibility that in future this restaurant may only be available for private functions, with another being opened within the hospitality centre so we were glad in the meantime to have dined in the House in such exclusive circumstances. Sadly we were escorted off the premises!"
