The Lady Ottoline - Carte

Tucked away in a small street off Russel square, it's a great spot for great comforting food.

we had orange duck with a pate and soya mousse followed by a mixed meat on Sunday evening that was from this world!

The beef: moist and tender but with some unpleasant gristly bits and cooked without a trace of pinkness. Personal choice I know, but roast beef to me is at its most glorious when rare.

This pub is quite lovely. It is likely the best within a one-mile radius. The decor is typical of a pub, but with a touch of charm and a very pleasant atmosphere. The service is efficient and friendly. They offer the usual selection of beers and a delicious Negroni that I highly recommend to all patrons.

Situated on Gray's Inn Road, The Lady Ottoline serves refined yet traditional British cuisine. Although the menu may appear simple at first glance, all dishes are expertly prepared with high-quality ingredients. Sunday lunch holds different meanings for different people. For me, it was a time spent with my grandparents, a day of relaxation and family catch-ups. My mother would finally have a break from cooking after a busy week, and Sunday dinner became a healing experience for all of us thanks to my grandparents taking over the meal preparation.

Sunday Lunch.  It means different things to different people.  Growing up it meant lunch with my grandparents, a day we relaxed and caught up with family members.  My mother was calm as she didn’t need to cook a special roast after her very busy week.  Sunday lunch was a healing experience for all of us, as my grandparents always bought take away so my grandmother could also have a break from cooking.

An invitation to review the Lady Ottoline in Bloomsbury coincided with a planned meeting with Tracey from Fighting Fifty who joined me for lunch, a catch-up and a bit of a gossip. And, she arrived first, so when I finally found the pub and dining room she was already installed upstairs waiting for me. The original Lady Ottoline appears to have been something of a character who had multiple affairs with the likes of Bertrand Russell and Dora Carrington. A member of the Bloomsbury Set, her friends included Virginia Woolf, WB Yeats and TS Elliot.
