"Disappointing. The dishes we ordered arrived in a few minutes. I did wonder if the ‘traditional steak and ale’ pie had been filled with tinned stewed steak, it had a wafer thin layer of puff pastry on top. The chips were ok but there was not many and there wasn’t a lot of the frozen mixed veg either. My friends haddock and chips was ok. Pavlova turned out to be two small ready made meringues accompanied by cream and a few berries with a squirt of raspberry sauce. Ok but we hoped for the genuine article! And I could be wrong but I think the prices on their website are out of date."

"The food was enjoyable, with the starters being quite good; the jungle curry stood out as excellent. However, the service left much to be desired. I received my soft noodles with only a spoon, and I was given the wrong menus at the start, among other issues. The most disappointing aspect, though, was how cold the restaurant was."

"We have been regulars at The Ship since it was a pub many years ago and when it transitioned to a restaurant it became one of our family favourites with many birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations being held in the function room. Unfortunately, our most recent visit will be our last. We are aware that things don’t remain the same when new proprietors take over but you at least expect the same standards and value as before. Sadly the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere and wasn’t busy at all, it was also really cold inside and heard others mentioning this as well. The menu was somewhat strange and not good value for money (previously a fillet steak would come on a large oval plate with onion rings, mushrooms, salad and chips. On our recent visit it came on a much smaller round plate with 2 slices of tomato and some chips. The price was still over £30. Also worth a mention is there is no longer lighting outside at the rear smoking garden area so it’s pitch black when going down the couple of steps etc. (and dangerous for my elderly dad . Perhaps things will improve going forward but we are not willing to take that chance again particularly as we were dining there to celebrate a special occasion. Give it a try at your peril (if you can actually get hold of someone as they are only open 2 days a week and don’t answer the phone. If you’re lucky they will phone you back 5 days or so later (by which time you will hopefully have booked somewhere else!"

"regrettable when we arrived, but we had booked. fast to order drinks to take/out, then we were told that there was a backlog in the kitchen. determined to order only net that came an hour after drinks. had to go into the bar to get additional drinks. Slowly. to ask if we wanted Dessert/Coffe until what time we had enough. then the card machine did not work and we paid money instead of waiting longer until it was connected. eating was good, but not good overall experience. they told us about Kitchen Backlog, but we didn't know how long, and we had committed until then."

"Could be better, the ramen was nice enough but not very hot when it arrived and the portion of noodles was very small. For £20 I'd want a lot more, I will say the pork was really nice, just let down by the temperature and stingy noodles. The sushi was nice enough, maybe a bit sweet for my liking. I got the desert sushi which was interesting but I did enjoy it but would be hesitant to recommend as it's quite an unusual pairing.
