"Went for lunch mid walk with backpacks. We sat down to eat and were joined by one more so I pulled over another chair. The landlord came and said if I broke the chair (I'm 50k) Id have to pay for it. I had moved a chair from one table outside to another wooden bench one. The food was ok to good, the girls serving were lovely. They should take over! A couple of weeks later I called in again with a friend and backpacks assume they think we are not locals and therefore don't care. Again rudeness as he patrolled the garden checking we weren't there just to use the loos. He needs to focus his energy on better customer service and pr. The few locals he's on side with may not be continuing forever."

Great pint of Harveys and great food. I had the veal which was fantastic. Finished off with the sticky ginger pudding, would highly recommend.

The food at Half Moon is always outstanding, especially the cod and fish dishes. It's a charming old pub where you can also enjoy a pint. Thank you.

A truly special birthday dining experience! The mussels were juicy and the burger was delicious. I highly recommend this charming pub, owned and operated by wonderful people. Voir le carte

Great pub shame about the landlord! Don’t go here if you have children or grandchildren or would like a welcoming landlord! He is in the wrong job. When asked if there was availability to book for lunch next weekend, the response was “no” he then turned and walked away.

Love this pub! Really don't understand the comments about the landlord he was extremely welcoming, entertaining conversation and it's obvious he cares greatly for his business. Roast beef and fish were both delicious and the sticky ginger pudding is lip smacking! Worth driving for over an hour to enjoy a wonderful lunch.

The title says it all. It had been raining a lot. It was cozy and atmospheric inside. The bars were busy but the restaurant less so. The menu was varied and pub reasonable in price. The service was attentive, polite and helpful. The food fish, chips, and garden peas came served nicely hot on warm plates and was delicious. Voir le carte

To celebrate my 60th birthday, I had a fantastic lunch at this exceptional pub. Jamie, the owner, and his team were incredibly welcoming. Despite not being the typical customer - I brought my two wet spaniels and am a vegan - I was well taken care of with plenty of delicious food options and even special treats for my dogs. This pub has become my favorite, and I will definitely be returning next year.

An odd place with a landlord who is clearly not that bothered about service and keeping his customers happy. When I complained about the food he literally shrugged his shoulders and walked away with no apology or suggestion of a solution. He had the cheek to charge me for the meal as well which I did as by then I was just pleased to get out of the place. I will not be visiting again especially when there are very good restaurants nearby run by people who care, make you feel welcome and deliver excellent food.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
