"I visited The Crown yesterday evening for my son's birthday with my other sons and my partner. We have visited many times over the year the last time was last Friday for lunch and although a little on the pricey side the...food is well cooked and presented and the service excellent. Last night was a dismal occasion. I had called in the morning to reserve a table was given a time of I asked if there were vegan options and was told that there were and explained that we were celebrating a birthday too. We arrived at and were taken to our table for drinks. we then waited minutes for our order to be taken. They were very busy with another party however had I been aware that this was going to cause issues with service I would not have booked. The service was very slow, we felt ignored as other smaller tables were served far quicker. The main meals my partner and I ordered were awful my lobster and linguine were dry and tasteless clearly had sat under a heat lamp my partners piri piri spatchcock chicken was greasy and appeared to have been deep fried with no hint of piri piri. and both meals were sent back. The vegan option for a starter was broad bean soup with a cheese crouton ! So NOT vegan. My son did choose this minus the crouton and the main was a cauliflower chop on a bed of curried chickpeas that was the vegan menu again had I know this I would not have booked but was mis informed by whoever took my phone call. Although the other meals were good and the puddings excellent sadly the cheese offering was not good i have seen the cheese platter presented beautifully on previous occasions, this time it was a mess of celery and grapes with small pieces of cheese and biscuits poking through, the whole meal concluded past when I had to chase the waitress for the bill i had not intended to spend over three hours at the restaurant. There was also a reduction of for my meal although my partners had been refunded as I had chewed my way through my half lobster. Needless to say there was no recognition of my sons birthday again in times gone by there would have been. As I said before, we have been frequent visitors to this restaurant in the past but will be trying the new restaurant in the next village now, sadly."

I held a birthday celebration meal in one of the private rooms at the Crown on Sunday. The welcome and organisation was excellent and the staff were so hospitable. The food was really lovely and the service excellent. Many of my guests said that they...enjoyed the meal and the way we were made so welcome by the staff. I visited yesterday for my usual treat but standards have rapidly gone down. Beer choice was limited compared to usual, menu choice was exactly the same as twice before and the standard of food served was awful compared to the usual. My steak was cruicified...after asking for medium rare and didn't appear to be sirloin at all. Service was also very poor compared to the high standards i am used to here. Will now try to find an alternative treat.

since some places in recent years we have always been very happy with eating and service. although it was always worth it. Unfortunately, yesterday it seems to be significantly worse. Eating was only best described as average, we found one. hair in the brot that I expected a reaction from the waitress, but all we got was oh, I take that away for you. it was replaced, but no offer of something to compensate and no real sign of regret that it had happened. unbelievably! so disappointing. we will not disturb the journey there again.

Came here will our son and daughter in law as they have been before and loved it. The Crown inside has been tastefully refurbished. The service was first class attentive and friendly. We all ordered different starters and could not fault the presentation and flavours....Again all different main as before all fantastic as were the selection of deserts. Pictures attached. The Gin, local ale and red wire very nice. Some may find the portion sizes small but fine for us and may be expensive for some but it is not your normal pub food. The only thing that annoys me if that the owners think they are above themselves to comment/reply to any comments wether positive or not. Voir le carte

beautiful building with very attractive outdoor seating. the eating did not live in the environment. had the feeling that the kitchen had to overcome a triumph of the ambitious over the talent. to be fair, the starter of wild mushrooms has packed and packed a tasteful stamp. the duck gyozas were also good. then it went down very quickly. three of our four main courses were very disappointing. the rump of suffolk lamb was hard (maybe overcooked), although the cheeseburger was very understated despite a special question (medical reasons), which should be done well, and the classic fish and chips was a medium, small part. the service was polite, but very, very slow and more amateurish. we had t...

We ate here in a large party for a very special occasion, so we had booked the function room. It was a very nice room. The staff knew the nature of the occasion we were celebrating but there was no effort to be congratulatory or...festive. I suppose the staff were trying to be formal, but they just came across as po-faced and unfriendly. The food was beautifully presented and around one third of our party enjoyed their meal.
