"probably the best food I had during my visit to england! ok story time: there are 3 of us who travel around Europe and have an adventure. we drove from london on the way to italy over the stansted airport. we had luck finding an airbnb in this small town and what an amazing tasty. our host was the best of all time! she even asked us to book a table, as it was a Saturday night and maybe it has to do. in the middle of the darkness with a flashlight went into the pub, and came there to a cozy restaurant that smells super! Now I can imagine being a native and being received with warm greetings, so being totally strange and not greeting any kind of kind is not a big thing. we sat and got a menu to check. two teenagers were the waiting staff and seemed eager to interact with natives. when the food finally came out. what a surprise! delicious eating, large portions and presentation and aromen matched every fine dining in a large metropole. whoever is the cook here, who hates you! I would definitely take a diversion if I ever am around this part of the world, it was that good! Eat: vegetarian lasagna, garlic bread and salat steak frites something with truffle mash....lol sticky toffe pudding"

Nice lunch in the garden, excellent sandwiches, good beer, helpful staff. What more could you want.

nice place to eat well. large gluten-free options, but it is a scandal that sandwiches were not 1 and half round to the size of 'normal'.

Popped in for a drink. Ended up having dinner. Staff were polite and friendly, food was good and the portions were massive ended up taking some home. Thanks

Delicious food and great staff. Child friendly. Especially enjoyed the roast beef, and the arancini. Only suggestion would be to have more allergen information on the menu, but really nice place!

Can’t comment on the food but we had a table booked for today. We walked straight in and walked straight out. Atmosphere was awful and not greeted when entering or standing at the bar. Seemed like a “rough locals pub”

Went here for Father's Day and had a lovely time! The roast was really good, the choice of craft beers was good and there were multiple vegetarian options which is good for a pub! Great atmosphere, will definitely be coming back soon

my own and my friends visited this beautiful pub today and I had to write an evaluation since I had not had amazing eating like these in a long time! in such a beautiful corner of the village with the sun we were sitting outside, the workers were beautiful, would highly recommend and safe again.

some of the best pub food I've had for a long time. everything was made on the ground home (we have asked and can say) a Propa-burger with a really good balance of taste with the fillings. beautiful crisp thick chips. chicken kiew was moist and full of taste the personal was very friendly and attentive all had a perfect lunchtime and will definitely return. if they are looking for a traditional country pub with home cooked diners through a hot fire with a pint, then this is their place.

"We have lived in Dunmow for 25 years and have always visited this pub through its various ownerships. We had not been for a while, until after I had a life saving major heart operation last year and this was the first place we chose to go for breakfast when I came out of hospital. We have continued to go since then on a regular basis and it never fails to satisfy. We have always been served by Lorraine since the first day we went and she has been fantastic. Last weekend was a year since I had the operation and we chose to go back for a small family meal to celebrate the success of the day. Well what can I say, my wife had other ideas and with the help of Lorraine she organised a surprise gathering of family and friends in a cordoned off part of the marquee with buffet. What made it even more special was that they don't normally do a buffet on a Sunday as it is normally roast dinner only. After Lorraine explained to her manager the importance of the day she was more than happy to help make the day happen. For this I am really grateful, and despite not getting the steak dinner I thought I was having it was so much better. Thank you to everyone involved as I know the organisation for this on a day you would not normally do it would have been a challenge. We will continue to go for breakfast whenever we can and hope that Lorraine is always there."

"We used to go to the Green Man a lot under the previous owners and thought we would give it a try again for our wedding anniversary with our children. Bit of a mistake! You can see they are trying to improve the quality of the food, which was always good anyway but poor training and terrible service really let it down tonight. So we sat at 17:30 and it was 15 mins before we were offered drinks, not a massive deal. Food order another 10 mins. Both the kids ordered burgers so I specifically asked if there was mayonnaise in the burgers and if the coleslaw was separate and was told no mayo in burger and coleslaw separate. Starter sharing mezze was OK except only 2 bits of halloumi (for 4 people) and odd tasting sandy brown coloured olives. So the burgers turn up and have coleslaw chucked on the plate right on the burgers and mayo in the buns. So they went back and “replacements” came back from the kitchen very quickly which were the same burgers just in new buns with no mayo and the coleslaw in ramekins. Then the wife’s fish and chips. Looked nice and waited for service to offer condiments however seems we are being left alone now we said about the burgers. So she starts tucking in and finds a short dark black human hair on the plate. So that gets sent back. To be fair to the chef came out and apologised that he had not put his bandana on and unfortunately one of his hairs had fallen on the plate. OK forgive that once and say thank you for apologising. However it’s the same but if fish (as the wife had picked a bit off the end) and probably the same chips. Lovely. Then we totally get left alone. The kids were enjoying the burgers but slightly over salted and the water had run out so we thought get more water so they can finish and that someone would come near, which they did but to serve the tables around us and completely ignore us, even when trying to get attention. So in the end we get up (and could totally have walked out without paying and none of the staff would have been any the wiser) that’s not us though, so we paid. Told the chap at the bar that we had to come to the bar as we had been totally ignored (him being one of the many staff fawning over the people on the tables around us) and he just said OK handed the receipt. Now was the time for an apology, maybe even some sort of discount (which most places just do regardless) but no, nothing, no apology, no discount. Not bothered about the money So I paid in full and will be extremely unlikely to (read will never) set foot in the place again as there was no attempt at apology. Happy wedding anniversary! When you book there is a question “is it a special occasion” which we put yes it was our wedding anniversary and no acknowledgment so they obviously ignore those bits on the bookings. It felt like it was very clicky, like if you are known or are loaded you get looked after. Not a place for mere mortals."
