I had the pleasure of having a tasting menu lunch today and inspired to write about the Outstanding food from the canapés to coffee. It was beautifully presented and superb staff a real joy. Thank you for the warm welcome and log fire.

Enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay with my wife for our 33rd wedding anniversary, booked in for 6 course tasting menu which was superb and did not disappoint with excellent dishes on offer, my favourites were the tartar of hand dived Orkney scallops and the rump of welsh lamb yum yum will definitely return : also a big thankyou to Racheal for arranging a bouquet of flowers in the room for my wife xx

Beautiful 6 course tasting menu for lunch today provided by a calm attentive team in a lovely environment. It can be stressful eating out when you have coeliac disease. I've eaten at many a place that has been pre-warned but that have struggled, including a Michelin 2* restaurant, but this was a totally stress free occasion with all dishes adapted a confident team providing reassurance. THIS IN OUR FIRST VISIT TO MONTGOMERY SINCE THE NEW TEAM TOOK OVER AND THE FOOD WAS JUST AS DELICIOUS AND INTERESTING AS BEFORE AND THE HOSPITALITY WAS CHARMING AND FAULTLESS. A TASTING MENU EXCITED THE TASTE BUDS ON EVERY COURSE. FROM DELICATE SCALLOPS THROUGH PLAICE ON A RISOTTO BED, VIA SUMPTUOUS VEAL, TO SOFT LOCAL CHEESE WITH A HONEY TRUFFLE GARNISH AND A CHOCOLATE EXPLOSION IN THE MOUTH, DINNER WAS AS GOOD AS IT GETS AND WELL WORTH THE JOURNEY. CHECKERS IS BACK AND SO WILL WE.

An outstanding lunch at this lovely restaurant in the beautiful town of Montgomery, I was lucky enough to be my daughters guest and she had been very lucky to win this generous prize. The setting was relaxed and homely, the food was so tasty and so creatively presented it was almost a shame to tuck in, but glad i did as my tastebuds were certainly delighted, the wine was delicious too. Thank you so much for looking after us so well. I wish you much luck and success and will certainly be back for some future treats.

The food at Checkers was definitely 5/5 . The flavours and experience were superb. We had booked via their website and had only gone as I had been given £40 in vouchers by my work colleagues. There was nowhere to indicate on the site that we had vouchers but as we knew they would hardly cover the bill we didn’t worry. Also the voucher was bought from them so had been paid for in advance and was still in date. After a brilliant meal we went to pay and used our voucher. £168 £40) We were told off in a curt manner but they did grudgingly take the voucher. This is a destination place to eat. I have only had one meal comproble in the UK and it was at a Michelin 1 star in St. Andrews. This is a small place, out of the way, dependent on on chef and his wife who runs the front of the house. Well, to make a long story short, every course was beautiful, thoughtful and satisfying. Everyone has different expectations especially when food and wine get more expensive. But I will tell you, this is the most expensive meal we have had in the last year and niether of us regretted a minute of it. We had the wine pairing which is expensive but so well chosen that it enhanced the whole experience in spite of the expense. Again, this is a destination retuarant...

Wouldn’t recommend there was absolutely no atmosphere, food was average (sea bass ceviche was more like sashimi and didn’t taste like a particular decent grade) second course was a couple of carrots which were nice but abit pointless. Fish course was plain and sloppy, venison was ok but pretty flavourless, lemon was curdling and the desert was just some sort of cherry (not fresh) granola. Wine flight was average and extremely small measures (in my experience I would except a 125 measure) soft drinks expensive and service lack lustre. Have noticed the bad reviews here are all followed with nasty responses; which honestly I find disgusting. The meal was so bad I actually vommed after. For 300+...

My partner and I had a memorable anniversary meal and were lucky enough to stay over too. The room (Daisy was lovely very comfortable and relaxing. Thoughtful touches of delicious Welsh cakes and fresh milk on arriving. The bathroom was well supplied with gorgeous Bramley products which were a pleasure to use. Our eight course tasting menu was superb. We particularly enjoyed the wine pairings which were very thoughtful and each complemented its food very well. We enjoyed hearing about the wine also from the female owner.
