"This pub has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are excellent, with an open log fire and historic old beams adding to the charm. It's a great spot for a drink. However, the food is significantly overpriced for the portion sizes, and on top of that, there is a 15% service charge which feels like an insult. I witnessed a couple at the next table order a starter of octopus, only to receive a single 7-inch tentacle for £10. The overall quality of the food is decent, but the small portions leave much to be desired. I spent £110 for two people and left feeling hungry, which is never a good sign. Ray, who works behind the bar, does a great job of keeping things running smoothly and the rest of the staff are very attentive. Unfortunately, the food is the weak point of this establishment. My meal came with just nine chips, which speaks volumes. I will likely return for a drink, but I won't be dining here again."

Avoided the masses at the Coppa club and then came across this beautiful Fullers pub. We sat in the courtyard, next to the church. What a perfect setting for a pint of London Pride in the sunshine. Happy days.

Delicious, succulent, well proportioned Sunday Roast in a comfortable, idyllic setting, accompanied by good, efficient, polite service. A little pricey maybe, but you obviously pay for the location. Nice pudding too. Thank you. Voir le carte

Signs around Sonning say ‘best fish and chips in Sonning’. I would argue that this should be expanded! We had an incredible meal with excellent service. Top points to the chef Clayton Baker. Loved it all thanks for the experience.

First visit of 23 did not disappoint. Great to be in a busy Inn and yet feel calm and unhurried buy the combination of brilliant Staff and a classic atmosphere. A classic British Inn with a small but perfect menu. The food is of the standard you expect with fine dining, yet without fuss or pomposity. Great food, great people and a brilliant wine list)

I recently visited this restaurant for a quick midweek lunch, Sunday lunch, and dinner with live music. I was pleased to find that the quality was consistent across all three meals. The fish and chips were excellent, the roast dinner was superb, and the steaks were very good. The service was friendly and attentive, and there was a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a satisfying meal. Voir le carte

We booked a table here for lunch and on arrival we struggles to find parking as the car park by the restaurant was full. On entering it took a while to be acknowledged by the staff and shown to our table, but we settled in a lovely room where most of the other tables were taken. We chose the two course lunch menu and enjoyed the soup and fish pie were were nicely served. When we were ready to pay and leave, it again took a while to be noticed by staff they may have been under staffed on the day. Nevertheless, we came away satisfied.

I stopped by for a casual midweek lunch and was underwhelmed by the welcome. Unfortunately, there were no open fires as the chimney hadn't been cleaned. This lack of attention to detail was a red flag for poor management. The lunch bar menu was limited, and my soup bowl was only half full with no bread provided. The Ploughman's lunch consisted of just one type of cheese and sliced bread, rather than the focaccia that was advertised. To top it off, a 12.5% service charge was added to the bill despite the lack of service. In the end, I spent £60 and left feeling disappointed with the overall experience.

"After many years, on recommendation of others, went to this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Whilst the food was excellent, the service was atrocious and totally ruined what should have a lovely night out on a very special occasion. Booked for and seated...promptly. Orders for aperitifs taken and drinks brought promptly. Order for wine taken, bottle brought and opened. Then it all went downhill. Waited for over minutes for our meal order to be taken and that only happened because I signalled to the girl behind the bar that I was getting unhappy. First course then took about minutes to arrive. However our main course took until to arrive. I have never ever waited minutes for a main course to arrive. It would not have been so bad if the staff had shown any interest or we had been able to grab hold of one to ask what was going on, they just seemed to totally ignore us! As mentioned earlier, the food, when it did arrive, was very good, it would have been even better if the side order of vegetables my wife had ordered had also arrived. We did ask what had happened to them but when we were told they had been overlooked, decided to just make do and share mine. To add insult to injury, while we were waiting we noticed that other couples were eating dishes that were not on the menu we had been given. I later found out that we were supposed to have been given a specials menu but this had also been overlooked. At the end, the manager was very apologetic and gave a cursory discount however this was not the point. It was a special occasion at a not inexpensive restaurant I would have preferred to pay the full price and not had a ruined evening. Needless to say, we will not be returning."

"After reviewing the menu, we decided to go for a 'running buffet' and shared a variety of dishes, reordering every ten minutes or so. I asked everyone to rate each dish on a scale of 1 to 5, and every main dish received a perfect score of 5, except for the Szechuan Prawns, which got a 5.5, and the sizzling spicy chicken, which scored a 6! The rice and noodles were all delicious—fluffy, tasty, and well-seasoned—but we gave them all a rating of 4 simply because the mains were exceptional. The standout dishes were the Char Siew (honey pork), which we ended up ordering three times, and the sizzling hot spicy chicken, which we ordered twice. It had a delightful kick of heat, was tender and moist, and had a wonderful sauce—even though I tried to manage the scores, they rated it a 6! The Szechuan prawns were plump, firm, and cooked to perfection, and they scored a very hard-fought 5.5, with just the right amount of heat. One of the boys was a bit picky, but we requested a serving of Singaporean noodles without vegetables for him without any hassle. This isn’t just average food; it’s really good, and it comes out quickly, looks appealing, and tastes fantastic—reflecting its price. We also tried the 'wine by the glass' options. The white Chilean Sauvignon Blanc paired well with the food, while I enjoyed an Australian Shiraz that complemented the beef, pork, and spicy dishes nicely. The Italian 'Blush' rosé was also a hit. We're already planning to return on Monday with another group of six to explore more of the menu, and I’m genuinely looking forward to it. If you truly appreciate good food, I highly recommend trying Chef Peking!"
