"We called here during a staycation in West Tanfield. The Staff were all lovely, very friendly and helpful. The setting was great too, with a local feel to it and good music in the background. There's quite a few choices on the menu but it's quite expensive for bar meals. Some of us had quiche one night and although it tasted ok it was a tiny slice of quiche for just under £14. Served with what tasted like oven chips, and salad garnish and coleslaw which were nice. I had a cheese and chutney sandwich another night and it was very nice , but again expensive at just under £9. Desserts were very nice and I enjoyed a chocolate brownie with ice cream. Drinks were very nice too, with some locally produced brews. I saw someone eating fish and chips and it did look like a substantial portion and looked good. Steak pie is served in a bowl with inches of gravy surrounding it. Served with a very small side dish with a tiny portion of vegetables and a few chips. Portion sizes seem to vary depending on what you order. A bowl of chips was a substantial portion. The bar has a lovely atmosphere and Staff are very nice. We didn't visit the beer garden because the weather wasn't good. I would definitely return for drinks but maybe not food. West Tanfield itself has a good nature reserve and at this time of year there's masses of blackberry bushes. Not too far away is the lovely little village of Bedale. A fantastic hidden gem with the best high street I've ever seen. Loads of independent shops selling at reasonable prices and lots of great coffee shops, cafes and restaurants."

Good food, great atmosphere, excellent beer, great service and a few yappy dogs! We were staying at The Old Coach House just down the road so this was perfect for dinner

We were fortunate to call ahead because we were informed that the kitchen closed at 6:45pm. The menu was not very impressive and was quite average, but it got the job done. The staff was very friendly. Voir le carte

We visited the Bull Inn for lunch on a rainy August day. The staff are very friendly. We had a good lunch, reasonably priced and the beer was good. The pub has a good riverside garden, we stayed inside though as was still raining

This riverside beer garden is lovely. The staff and landlady are excellent, very friendly and helpful. I have visited several times on nice sunny days. The steaks are always excellent, but this time slightly over salted. The issue was acknowledged by the landlady. I believe that the amount of salt/pepper should be left up to the customer. The pint of OP was excellent. I will definitely be returning.

We stayed at the bull and had dinner. The restaurant smelt of manure due to local farmers being in the bar, which didn’t bode well when we ate. The pie was lovely but the vegetables were cold. The accommodation was disappointing as we were given a twin disabled room, we booked a double. The shower/wet room was mouldy and had bugs in it. There was a small window with no curtain not great for privacy. Will not be going back. Voir le carte

We had a great experience during our three-night stay at The Bull Inn starting from the 22nd of the month. The staff was excellent and we enjoyed the delicious breakfasts. The bar had a nice atmosphere with the locals. Our small double room was charming, the bed was comfortable, and the creaking floorboards added to the overall ambiance of the Inn. We would definitely come back if we were in the area. Thanks to Graham and the rest of the staff for a wonderful stay. Additionally, there is a convenient car park area located right across from the Inn for visitors.

We had on many occasions driven past The Bull and always said...we really must go there....speaking to friends who had been they were full of praise for the food and location, so today we visited. We both chose the same main course, which is most unusual, roasted ham, fried egg, chips and peas. We waited rather longer than we had expected to for the food to arrive, having seen the waitresses trotting backwards and forwards with sandwiches and chips, ordered by newly arrived customers, being served before us. The food looked appetising alas there were problems. The chips were just warm, the peas were COLD, the fried egg, crozzled on the bottom and the yolk cooked to hard and dripping with oil...

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
