"My friends and I decided to go on a mile walk around Finchampstead, Farley Hill, The Combes and then go back to our cars via The Bull at Barkham, so we could have a well earned pub lunch. As a group of Ramblers, we...had regularly visited the Bull after our walks prior to the pandemic and I would have previously commended the pub by saying they served the best ham, egg and chips in the area. Well,,,...... has that changed for the worse!!!!!!! We had a very poor meal there today. Firstly, they don't serve ham, egg and chips any more, secondly one of my friends and I ordered fish chips and our meals were very poor. The fish piece I had was really tough and unpleasant and the chips were not cooked enough. No mushy peas, just a few cold frozen peas and sauce out of a catering jar. Even the tomato sauce, mayo and salt pepper were served in TINY sachets and there wern't enough of them. The waiter who served us was unfriendly and surley. We shant be returning to the Bull at Barkham any time soon."

another beautiful meal with friends. are they no longer in the bottle of prosecco? can I not take care of this new rule? sounds like a greedy owner rule. much profit is made on a bottle

Great pub before COVID. Much improved after COVID. Food portions have doubled. With a fussy son, we love the Bull. My son has loads of kid meals to choose from and the Thai food was better than when we’ve come previously. Would recommend to anyone!!

After reading several positive reviews, I was not impressed with this restaurant. Although the service was friendly, the quality of the food and the prices were poor. I found it difficult to justify the prices for the meals we received. The presentation of the dishes could not make up for the fact that the kids' burger was overcooked and dry, the pork was very fatty and overcooked, and the chicken was also overcooked and dry. Overall, I left feeling very disappointed. Voir le carte

Visited last summer when the Government covered half the bill encouraging people to dine out to support businesses… An advertising board was outside suggesting the Government off. Food was okay. Not great. But it was lunch. When the bill arrived it was the full...price. No discount applied. When questioned the waitress said, ‘we do off. Do you want me to change it’. Why did they have a board outside and not take the off… and why not register with the Government for they would get of bill that way. Disappointing that they implied it was a off…. Haven’t been back.

we were not already one because on the bullen in barkham, but eating was quite good, especially there Curry’s we had a very average meal, although the people who had the curries said the taste was ok, but they could. the meat was not very good quality and was hard, I had fish and chips, and I can honestly say it was the worst fish chips I had ever had no confidence how they could go wrong with fish and chips that I told the waiter when he took my full plate, it was not good, but he was very uninterested. so service also not great. such a scandal, how beautiful looking pub inside and outside, but surely it will not eat there soon

It was a quiet night in the pub, service was a little slow however the waitress was very pleasant. We ordered main courses which came in a reasonable, however, the lamb dish was dry, as if they had precooked the lamb and just placed...a sauce on it. This dish we have had before and previously was much better. We then asked if they did irish coffees tonight, even though I could see it on a board within the other part of the restaurant I thought it was polite to ask. They advised that they did, so I asked for a Calypso version, Barperson arrived with a glass of Tia Maria. After trying to get this right I just ordered a coffee and settled for that. Disappointed Voir le carte

Have visited on a regular basis every week with a group of friends sit outside. Everyone orders in or usually coffee, teas beers . Service is often slow frequently orders are wrong. Coffee is served in cups with no handles...but are useless for tea as its too hot, so asked for cups/ mugs with handles . This varies from big teacups to liquer coffee glasses! Tea has arrived in a pot with no tea bags, sugar, milk or spoon, biscuits are a lottery sometimes you get one, sometimes not . The beer is ok but they put up the price of a pint by in one week. We visit every week, same day, same quiet lunchtime so you would think they would be a little more prepared. Needless to say we now go elsewhere.

Today of us called for lunch, nearing the end of a mile walk, with the expectation of the usual high standards. Very busy but a table found. had Thai curry and fish and chips. Drinks came promptly, excellent beers and...cider, then the food came. The curries looked, smelt and tasted great but the fish and chips were probably the worst the of us have had. Grossly thick undercooked batter, chips looked great but undercooked. Nobody came to enquire if we were happy and nobody about to report. We were so hungry we ate what we could then gave up. The manager cleared table and we told him about the meal. The only reason I’m leaving this report is the complete lack of concern by this man who shrugg...

"Posting on behalf of PeterfromSandhurst, who was limited to only review per month. As I was of the people on this visit, I agree with everything that has been said and whole heartedly recommend the Lord Raglan for family visits. On to...the actual review. visit, this time with six people comprising three generations aged (that day) to almost We agreed that we would just keep ordering one or two plates every minute or so and share them so we could all eat the entire menu, a bit at a time. Over hours and plates of food later the results were in, we had eaten the menu! The clear favourite by show of hands (from the little ones and the ladies) was the sticky toffee pudding (no surprises there). Choosing favourites after that was very hard indeed as they were all good. The haddock was excellent with a close dense batter that was both light but substantial (don’t ask me how) and closely hugged the good sized piece of fish. It held heat well, tasted good (both batter and fish) and remained crisp until the last bite despite not rushing to eat it. The chicken (breast pieces in the sharing platter and the smoky spicy thighs dish) were also great. Moist, very tasty but the thighs a tad spicy/smoky for the children (the smoky hit is pretty instant for a kid) but the adults all loved them, the crunchy crusted breast fillets were loved by all. The ribs were moist, delicious, plentiful and fell apart simply by looking at them. The meat board (usually a shared starter) scored highly again with the juicy pork leek sausages beautifully finished with scorched crispy skin just like the very best BBQs can manage but still wonderfully moist inside. Pulled brisket very juicy, still not sure what they use instead of butter but it works perfectly. The Korean chicken burger with kimchi was a hit with my wife (she hadn’t had kimchi before) leaving a nice afterglow without any blast of heat. She just read this and said “The sausages were delicious, I really liked those, next time I go, I am going to have sausage and mash”. Well that’s her bit done. Oh, and by the way, it was steak day (every Thursday it seems), and the steaks come as a package with chips, a sauce choice and a drink (soft or wine etc) at discounted prices, so we had a few of those too. Ordered medium rib eyes, held our breath, and low and behold medium rib eyes arrived (well done chef! And eat your heart out Miller and Carter). So if you are sick to death of places that can’t cook a steak properly, try here. I hadn’t eaten Mac and cheese for years but tried that too and found the cheese was great, had a real intense depth of flavour and lovely grilled crusty edges (that you pick out of your teeth for the next minutes mmmm). If you have the time to spend a few hours mid week with people you love in a quirky but relaxed atmosphere you could do worse than try this tasting menu approach to culinary socialising. The Staff could not have been more accommodating, despite the unconventional nature of our visit. Thank you Beth and Leah, you did an excellent job. I made a couple of remarks on my first visit about how I might improve things if I was permitted to stick my oar in and again. Bang, they had been implemented just two days later. Amazing stuff Lily (boss), you are a star. Any kitchen that consistently turns out dish after dish like this one does, has something going right. See you again soon."
